I think so too, all Pokemon are unique and clever in their own little way, even Klefki, Trubbish and Vannilite but not Voltorb those suicidal basterds don't do it as a Pokemon for me, they're literally Pokeballs with eyes that explode like

Voltorb and Electrobe, (being based on Pokéballs), are the only Pokémon not based on anything in real life (to my knowledge). That also makes them the most original Pokémon created. Being suicidal is just icing on the cake.

Well, you are technically OK by doing that since Ivo Robotnik is his birth name.

Eggman is a name Sonic came up with for him that he started using himself, probably as a means of trying to make Sonic feel less accomplished by calling him that (though now Sonic has taken to calling him "Baldy McNosehair"). And this next bit is just me speculating, but he truly started calling himself "Eggman" as of Sonic Adventure 2 since in Sonic Adventure 1 he's still all "NO, I AM DOCTOR ROBOTNIK!" Then in 2 he's like "I am Dr Eggman"... though I speculate that since... well, that's when his plan was to shoot his way into a military base, steal top secret military research and eventually hijack an abandoned military space station and use it's power to hold the planet at gunpoint... I'd probably consider an alias too with a plan like that... and what better alias than the one your arch rival came up with, especially since it doubles as a means to make Sonic feel less accomplished for coming up with it.

Ahh the memories of that scene. Perfect way to kick off an evil plan.
