I think the decision makes sense. The 3DS already has enough attention as it is and Nintendo announced about a month ago that they have plans to do DS games for the Wii U too. Especially with the big drought coming up, I think it's a good course of action to deal with the Wii U somewhat weak game library.
It's still a stupid idea.

All because I still won't be able to own FE7 since the Wii-U belongs to my dad. >_________________________>

Who knows, I guess we will have to wait and see about that if we don't get Yoshi next month.
As long as we get Ness soon..i will be happy. Regarding the VC thing..i do think the only reason why Nintendo had done this is to deal with the WiiU's lack of games

What about multiplayer? Will you even be able to play multiplayer games on the GBA VC? More questions that can lead to the conclusion that this was a stupid idea.
I can actually solve this.
It's the same way River City Ransom has co-op on the 3DS despite being an NES game.
They'd simply alter it to fit the WII U's way of multiplayer.

Well the thing is. At the time before Marth's reveal I guessed he would be the next reveal and he was. And it was a totally random guess based solely on a feeling. Now I have the feeling for Ness. So I'm sticking with Ness. :p
I honestly wouldn't mind Ness.
Though IMO we need Captain Falcon in glorious HD!

What is the logic of having GB and GBC games on the 3DS, but having GBA games on the Wii U? It makes no sense no matter how much you may try to defend Nintendo. It's a completely senseless and illogical decision.

Only if they can do something with the Game Pads...

Anyway, it has to do with HOW multiplayer is done on a home console and on a portable. It's easier to turn a console game's multiplayer into a handheld than the reverse process.

The reason? Number of screens. On a home console (except Wii U), there's one screen shared for all players and on a handheld, each player has his/her own screen. A NES game, like you mentioned, could simply have the same thing shown on both 3DS's screens.

Of course, you could argue that you could divide the TV screen in a number of parts equal to the number of players, or, considering it's the Wii U we're talking about, each player could use a Game Pad.

However, there's one problem. Handheld games are often individual experiences, with the multiplayer aspect being conditioned by this. The prime examples are the Pokémon games. Most handheld games are designed with portability in mind, so putting GBA games on the Wii U is against that principle.

Long story short: It's a bad idea to have GBA games on the Wii U's VC. Those would be better on the 3DS, while the Wii U would get GCN games.

Well to be kinda fair. We do have NES games on the 3DS which are from a home console.... But yeah, I do wish they gave us GBA games for the 3DS virtual console already... Besides this whole ambassador thing they had going. :/

Sales most likely...
The Wii U is doing poorly, especially since some of the bigger games aren't coming out for a while.

To quote you.

You have just answered that question.

So, then. What's the problem?
If the majority is single player, then there isn't much to worry about right?
Though with Pokemon, I'd assume maybe a online shtick will go on. Using friends in your friend code, you'd be able to trade across multiple Wii U's.

I'm mad too. I've been a proud 3DS owner since 2012. But I understand their reasoning.
Though, here's hoping the 3DS gets SNES or even N64 games...

I can actually see why the GC VC isn't a thing, since GC emulation is still something that's somewhat iffy.

Multiplayer probably wouldn't have been possible on the 3DS either.

Actually, it is. Through DS Download Play.
No, I mean that emulating GB link cables would probably not be somthing that Nintendo could do.

Considering that link cable emulation is something that hobbyist emulators still don't have down completely, I'm not sure if Nintendo would be able to do it.

(Yes, hobbyist emulators are almost always better/more full featured than by emulators by "real" companies)

Simply put, if you have them on both systems, people are going to overwhelmingly buy them on the 3DS instead of the Wii U. Having GBA and DS games on the Wii U also puts further emphasis on the Gamepad which Nintendo meant to be one of the Wii U's selling points. Maybe Gamecube games will come out eventually but I personally think this is fine for now.

They wouldn't. As we already have something that surpasses it. Wireless play.

Well, if they do figure it out, I hope they put Red & Blue in the eShop. A Lucario can dream~

No, I mean that EMULATING the link cable connection (which is what you need to do for multiplayer in GB games) is difficult.

It's true though. Hobbyist emulators like VBA and SNES9x have more/better features(like screenshots, save states, recording, cheat support, automatic file patching) than "official" emulators like the ones Nintendo uses for the VC.

Edit: What the hell, why do I automatically start watching a thread whenever I post in it? nvm, I figured it out.

I could see SNES games on the 3DS, as it has the exact same button layout as the SNES. I wouldn't count on N64 games, though. Thanks to the N64 being a six button controller with three buttons on the back, it's impossible adapt to the 3DS.

Comparing the layouts:
SNES: + Pad, A, B, X, Y, L, R, Start, Select = 1 directional pad + 8 buttons
N64: + Pad, Stick, A, B, 4 C buttons, L, R, Z, Start = 2 directional pads + 10 buttons
3DS: + Pad, Slide pad, A, B, X, Y, L, R, Start, Select = 2 directional pads + 8 buttons

Only the Circle Pad Pro would make it possible.

Simple, just label the games that need the Circle Pad pro...

You guys talking about VC's ?
The only bother I have is that things that were compatible with the game and/or console most likely won't be usable anymore.
For example I got Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, even though it's not much you can't use the GameBoy Printer. I don't know if these kind of games have multiplayer though.

The fact the ambassadors had GBA titles on the 3DS makes the whole thing even more stupid. And the Wii U also has NES games on the VC.

I think Diddy and Yoshi might be the next characters shown. After that, I don't really know who else would be revealed. I guess it could be random for April. While maybe Wario or Meta-Knight can be shown off in May.

I thought you were talking about having handheld games on a home console... nevermind then.

But like I said, I agree. They should give us GBA games for the 3DS by now. I mean it's been probably about 2 or 3 years now since Nintendo apologized to the Ambassadors for the price cut and all. So why keep holding everyone back much longer? :/

I don't really know. I'm surprised at this point that they haven't done it; Including myself I know 3 ambassadors only personally. Most bought it after the price drop. Besides, the Price Cut didn't exactly anger me that much :)

And it sucks for people like me who did buy it after the price cut.

Are you an ambassador yourself? While the GBA games hold up (or at least the ones I played do), the quality of their... implementation is really, really low. It seems like they used some very low level hacks involving DSi mode to make them playable. While other 3DS emulators aren't the greatest things ever to behold if you are used to things like Kega Fusion, they are still really better than this thing. And here's the problem: while Nintendo's release schedule isn't exactly the most consumer friendly thing ever, the Wii VC did eventually contain almost every 1st party title that was trivial to emulate and not covered by legal mumbo jumbo. I guess the GBA... emu... mode... thing is not trivial to set up, and it creates a rather miserable experience.

Now why are they releasing these on Wii U instead of waiting a little? Perhaps they are pushing everything they can to Wii U right now, it's that simple. Of note is that while GBP was basically GBA hardware connected to NGC, there was a pretty decent commercial 3rd party GBA emulator for GameCube. I guess a Wii U one is trivial to write for Nintendo.

Smash 64s story was so deep man. People didn't buy it for the nintendo characters, they got it for the deep relationship formed between master hand and the fighters!
Though I didn't like the death of Bowser. It was too over-dramatic for me.
The climax was good though...

I highly doubt Gamecube games will ever be available on the Wii U. Nintendo would probably be more content to do more HD remakes like they did with Wind Waker, sell them for a discount, and make money that way.
