My argument is..... Moogle? SLIME? Really? As a playable character? Sounds more like an item, like cucco. I mean as far as recognisability goes, Geno is an actual character and not a mascot, and brings something interesting with his design and possible moveset. Plus, again, he is actually well loved and popular among those who played Mario RPG. As for "out of all Square characters", how important are those compared to a stright-up Mario game?

Mario RPG, I'll admit, is important, since it opened the way for Mario and Luigi and especially Paper Mario.

However, Geno only ever appeared in that ONE game, and as such, is not exactly important in terms of Mario or really anything, because outside of Superstar Saga's cameo, he never appeared in any Mario, nor was he referenced at all in ANY of Square's games, similarly to Mallow.

Black Mage, on the other hand, could ALSO have an interesting moveset, and has appeared more frequently than Geno alongside Mario and the rest of the Mario cast. Not to mention, Black Mage is also a character from a still-running franchise, as opposed to Geno, who was basically in a one-off that eventually evolved into Paper Mario.

Fortune Street, in my opinion, sealed Geno's fate. It used Square and Nintendo characters, and even had SMRPG music on Peach's Castle, yet Geno and Mallow (even though I would've loved to see them) were completely absent.

Notably, Alphadream has been asked about him too, and they did make Mario & Luigi as well as helping with Super Mario RPG. So like Sora with Sqauare and Disney, he's possibly co-owned by them. I do agree he needs to do more to earn his place, but he definitely has all the potential needed, including popularity, easy of getting(since Alphadream appears to co-own him), and obviously moveset potential. Unique as well. He does honestly have a pretty good chance, as he's not like Krystal who is only popular in half the world at best and from a series that just got a major character cut.

I'll give you that, but considering third parties have been the likes of Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man, having Geno, who only appeared in one game, not to mention the younger audience who has no idea who he is, as opposed to Black Mage, who has also appeared in recent spin-offs and younger players might know, seems odd to me. Maybe that's just me, though.

Well, it still could. Sure, it's a 3rd Mario, but he has unique moveset potential. And they already got 7 different movesets in Smash now. One more won't matter at this point.

The way the character select screen is set up suggests that the game will probably have three more characters after Mewtwo to make a full grid of 54 squares. I know I'm like a broken record but... baby, word to your mother.

I'm guessing you get a code to download him, so removing your data won't invalidate your code. Also, it's tied to your NNID. You'll never have to repay for him again. You're good regardless.

I would like to fight him as an unlock battle, but it's unlikely. No biggie.
