I'm not sure, AT's could easily be promoted IMO. There's a small selection who could work really well.

That being said, I think the most likely are still the same-old names... Dixie, Wolf, Lucas etc.

I think we had all this "deserve" talk previously. For one, he isnt a Square "representative", he's a joint effort, and Nintendo managed to get him as a tiny cameo in Superstar Saga previously with no sweat, so geting him now would be a non-issue. Secondly, last time I checked, hes somewhat hightly requested, and the game he come from is still very dear to a lot of people. Thirdly, I rather have him than any Square character. Actually, if we talk "deserving", HE is the most deserving of all Square characters since he was one of the main characters in a Mario game, and THAT is a huge deal.

If they can fix Ice Climbers on the 3DS, they're a given I think, seeing as Sakurai said they worked on the Wii U (even in 8-player mode I'd assume). Out of other veterans, I'd agree on Lucas and Wolf having good shots as well.

Im always confused when people bring up "he isnt the right Square representative!". Well then who is? Who has relevant enough history with Nintendo to "deserve" being included? Final Fantasy became more of a Sony-related brand after SNES, and honestly, I wouldnt want any FF content if it ment risking them try to shove Lightning in there somewhere. Does pre-7 FF even have iconic enough characters to bother? Cecil I guess, but most 2D era FF characters ware forgotten as soon as they ware replaced by a new 2D FF game, I dont remember caring about any of them untill 7 came along. Geno is the character that everybody brings up, because he was actually interesting personality and design wise, was in an actual Mario game, as a major character, and the game itself is still fondly remembered by many as one of the best! The game was a joint effort of both Square and Nintendo, thats as relevant to Nintendo as you can get.

Pichu actually doesn't have any issues the other 3 have returning, and he actually has fans for being highly unique for his "defining" difference between him and his parent version. Most of the others don't have a special gimmick while being a clone. Lucina has the lack of Marth's key point(the tipper), and Toon Link/Young Link's size makes a huge difference. Ganondorf is still strong like Falcon, but not fast. I'm not sure speed alone is much of a special gimmick. I find Pichu returning as a quick clone for a veteran pack not that unlikely myself.

Roy shares his name with another. Having to program all the announcer files correctly due to this alone(since every file is connected to a character's ID as pointed out beforehand in the Leaks Group we visit). Snake has 3rd party issues(which could even be Konami and Nintendo refusing to cooperate). Ice Climbers are beyond unlikely due to technical issues. The only veteran that should be also unlikely besides Snake, Roy, and Ice Climbers is fully Young link. Pichu just has more going for it, especially if it's free or low-priced compared to others.

Yup! Glad to see a 64 stage back! I hope they add another one... I'd prefer either the Mario stages or Hyrule Castle. I haven't seen the Project M Hyrule Castle yet, but I think that a Smash 4 HC would be awesome! I want my HD **** you tornado! GIVE ME MY TORNADO NINTORNADO!

Speaking of stages, I wonder about Stage Builder still. We know you can draw and make pretty complex structures with it, but I wonder if you can make transitions and events happen on it. Like some very basic scriptwork for you to play around with. Either way, the stage situation looks good.

No longer do you have to make boring blocky penises within a small space. Now you can draw lovely, curvy HD penises! And put damageable floors on it!

I'd love it even more if there were stage parts and stage backgrounds actually based off Nintendo games this time around.

But he is all three though. Ask a Nintendo fan who Geno is and they will tell you "oh, its that guy from Mario RPG!". He is a fan favorite, and for good reasons as he is one of the most unique and memorable things about Mario RPG. And again, he wouldnt be completely third party, he is still recognised as a part of Mario series. I mean, we live in a post Duck Hunt Duo world. Why DONT you want him playable? He is perfectly unique addition to the roster, and much more "deserving" than any pre-7 FF mook.

My issue with Geno is pretty simple.

Out of all the characters Square Enix could use from early Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc., why pick a support character in one RPG on the SNES who never appeared again outside of a small cameo?

Especially when characters like Black Mage, Slime, and Moogle have ALSO appeared alongside Mario characters before and still do from time to time. Especially Black Mage, White Mage, and Ninja, who have appeared in 2 games alongside the Mario cast at least.

It's possible, since they're obviously remaking him from the start, not porting him like the other characters.
Eventually, I hope they bring Ice Climbers and Snake back. These are the three characters who most deserve to be in this game.

Well, if you really want to be honest here. Sakurai said the rosters would be the same for both versions. However, that does not mean "for all consoles".

My argument is..... Moogle? SLIME? Really? As a playable character? Sounds more like an item, like cucco. I mean as far as recognisability goes, Geno is an actual character and not a mascot, and brings something interesting with his design and possible moveset. Plus, again, he is actually well loved and popular among those who played Mario RPG. As for "out of all Square characters", how important are those compared to a stright-up Mario game?
