Indeed, that's correct.

But it terms of actual gameplay, Doc does have more to offer. Different Down-B and Down Air from the original Mario. The pills and Super Jump Punch are also different enough from Mario.

From a gameplay perspective, Lucina just lacks the tipper mechanic.

As a sidenote, gameplay should never matter when choosing a character, characters should be chosen because of who they are, and THEN a moveset should be made for them, that's why Lucina's better than Dark Pit and Dr. Mario, she's a memorable character from a memorable game. I mean, do you really think Sakurai chose Rosalina thinking "Yeah, she's a puppet character"?

It's true that Raichu always gets the short end of the stick, but I do like Pikachu more.

Also...people, I'm being an ass on the POTD thread, should I just back out before it gets even worse and wait out the cruel jokes about my supposed age or the whole 'salt' thing that stopped being funny a couple centuries ago? I'm just pissed off that the OMG BIG REVEAL of the Direct will be a character we already know, love or absolutely hate.

With that logic, you could argue that all picks for the roster were memorable from their respective franchises.

All the other newcomers received trailers, why does have to be left out? The novelty comes from watching the character in action.

You'd be surprised how gameplay matters in a game.

See the word play I'm shoddily making. Games need gameplay! Whoa! How surprising!

Rosalina having a puppeteer mechanic helps her stand out and bring a sense of newness to the game. Rosalina happened to be a puppeteer because she fights alongside the Lumas.

You can say the same for Shulk with his Monado Arts or Little Mac and his ground based play style.

Further proof that gameplay is important: Chrom being ditched in favor of Robin because the latter would bring more to the table. Yet Chrom was the more popular and well-known character.

And when you say Lucina is a memorable character and say she's better than other characters, you're just speaking for yourself. I may be in agreement with that, but others don't necessarily agree with that.

I also find Dark Pit a memorable character and like his inclusion in Smash.

And it is a fact that Dr. Mario brings more to the gameplay than the other clones thanks to having Mario's old moveset (with some twists like Megavitamins). You can't argue with that.

Well, if you're being an ass, you can't really expect other people to take you seriously.

It'd be at least a little satisfying if at least Dr. Mario doesn't make an appearance anywhere in any trailer...he might bring more gameplay-wise, but he has to be the character that brings the less content character-wise in the game, @ Frostwraith , I don't you can argue with that either.

It's still a trailer for a dog. Nothing really that special, moving along, the only thing he has going for him would be that a lot of older gamers hate him, at least the newer generations can hate him for different reasons now.

I think it's in the sense that we already know that they are in. Which I can sort of understand. But it would be nice to see these characters in HD for the first time. The other new characters have been getting trailers, so it seems fair enough.

Dr. Mario is extremely memorable. He has his own game series, for cripes' sake. He's even more recognizable to a lot of fans than Lucina and Dark Pit, who had a tiny slew of appearances beforehand.

Since Dark Pit is already on the site I don't think he's getting one

Would it be cheating if I said Metal Sonic was the better choice? Since we're talking evil counterparts and whatnot.

I do like Dark Pit as a character, but visually, he's not that interesting, being a literal recolor and all.

These kind of characters are kind of interesting to discuss. Not just in Smash, but in general. I wonder why I like some of them, but dislike others a lot.
