I never have been too interested in villains as the protagonist. It has to be well done for me to give a crap. I don't know, maybe said villain was likable. They don't have to turn good at the end, but they should still have the positive qualities that anyone finds in a good protagonist. But what the **** do I know?

Except I would deconstruct it.

The creature would have a child-like mentality, thinking killing humans (and other sentient beings if I decide it to be in a fantasy world) as fun.

When the world is destroyed, the creature would weep in sadness because all the source of fun would be out. One of the cultists would act as an adviser of sorts, telling it how destroying the world wouldn't bring eternal happiness.

Of course, the creature, being horribly naive, would stubbornly insist otherwise. (Then maybe could make dinner out of him because he's no fun by always reprimanding him. Adding a touch of black comedy wouldn't be a bad idea. The story would have to be engaging, after all.)
