Sliding Ftilt?

So a weird thing happened today in a match (no replay unfortunately, match was something like 4 minutes long and i wasn't expecting anything special): I was playing as Link for a couple rounds, and all of a sudden when no one was around me, I was messing around, and ended up doing a huge sliding Ftilt. It went nearly half way across Smashville.

I wish I knew how I did this. I've been able to replicate this in a very small way by doing a pivot walking ftilt, but it only ends up getting about half the sliding distance I remember in the match. Maybe there's some strict timing to a pivot ftilt to do this?

I just thought I'd share this and see if you guys know anything about this. If this has already been found by someone else I appologize.

I'm not sure exactly how far it takes you, but you slide significantly farther if you execute a move as Link takes a step with (I think) his right foot. It might be left I'm not sure, but it isn't too hard to figure out if you're looking for it. It's fairly easy to learn to do, as it's the same timing every time after a pivot. It's basically pivot boosting + smooth boots without the crouch (which actually isn't necessary).

Funny thing, he always pivots on his right foot, meaning the left foot is the one actually taking the step.

The most slide I can get right now on a regular basis brings me about 1/4 the way across smashville. The sliding distance I remember earlier was about twice this (not including the pivot).

You can get a very minor boost without even pivoting with Link. The only name for that effect that has stuck is "smooth boots," which isn't that great of a name, either.

Does anyone know if Link slides if he does Foxtrot > True Pivot > Ftilt (in either direction)? I could never get the timing on that technique down, and I don't see it in tournament videos so I figured it's probably not that useful.

Yeah, I was talking about the first step he takes AFTER the pivot, when he's in his normal walking animation. If you time a ftilt right, you can slide even farther, or slide even without pivoting.

Link's pivot seems to add some funky momementum that just isn't represented with a walking ftilt. I'll mess with it more later tonight.

It's interesting, the Ftilt slides pretty nicely with the Pivot Boost, but I haven't really thought about how mu-

... Lucky.

I was flamed to hell when I pointed this out a while ago >.>...

Yea, alot of Link's ground attacks don't cancel his momentum, so he'll slide a good distance when you attack out of his walk (when timed right at least). Which is how that whole "Smooth Boots" bit came about.

It's like smooth boots, except your doing an attack instead of crouching. Causes you to slide while doing w/e attack you did.

At least thats what I think what happened. I had a video up showing it but took it down a while back.

Lol, yeah, I'm not a Link main. I do have a lot of fun playing Link though, and I consider him my 3rd best character.

I still haven't been able to reproduce that huge slide I remember pulling off, though. I'm guessing that was just a glitch. Maybe some extra shieldpush was involved that I don't remember.

It's was just a perfectly executed pivot slide. You did it right so you got the maxmimun distance it covers.

Pivot boosting is teh shiz btw.

I believe I know what happened. But this is just a theory.

You might have been dashing around and turned around and ftilted. There is a technique that allows you to cancel the turn around animation into a slide. Since a normal PV or SB can't go that far, this is probably what happened. I really don't know. Anyway, because Link is so slidey in general, the effect is even greater. Check out my combo video, it's in there somewhere.

It could just be that there was a planetary shift towards a quasar in a neighboring galaxy. Thus causing Smashville to rotate faster than it should for a split second. Resulting in what appears to be a perfect pivot boosted Ftilt.

^this. There's a misconception when it comes to pivot boosting. Most people think it's moving while turning and sliding and stuff. This is only partially true. The thing most people don't realize is that to truly pivot boost, you need to get the maximum distance in between each turnaround. If you do that, you can cover a stage faster than Link's dash.
