Not really. The ONLY reason SG isn't more successful is because people aren't attached to the characters like people are to Ryu, or Mario, or Iron Man.

For example, did anybody buy the first Smash because of the gameplay at first? No, they bought it because of the characters, no one was thinking about balance or gameplay or anything. Are street fighter fans going to NOT buy SF5? Are marvel fans not going to just throw money at MvC4 no matter what it is?
Sequelitis is killing the market for unique games and new franchises, a company has to take a big risk to make a new franchise, and the only big recent FG one I can think of is Blazblue, and Blazblue probably wouldn't exist if Arc System Works didn't temporarily not have GG rights.

I completely agree with you and you basically just further proved my point to why SG will be dead in a few years. With the lawsuit hindering the expansion of the original game do you really think they will be able to come out with a sequel where people are attached to thei characters?
