Presumably your fridge.
Y'know y'all always mention DThrow -> Fair being a true combo but I'm pretty sure that if they DI away it's a follow up string at best because it only rarely works for me in actual matches. Though it's nice when it works, of course.

For a zoning/wall character like Shulk though it isn't the end of the world that his throws fling people away from him. Mid range is where he wants them anyways. FThrow does decent damage and we can act fast out of it, BThrow can set up Back Slash off a proper bait/read, Jump UThrow sets up Uair, and DThrow is our go-to Smash kill throw.

Definitely not the best throws, but they get the job done I think.

Shulk's throws are great mix-up tools. If they are expecting a down throw and DI away you can mix in a back throw to put them at a disadvantage. All of his throws are quick as well, so reacting and DI'ing all of them can be difficult.

Awesome.
Playing Shulk on the Smash 3DS...is a bit clanky...
Yesterday at a tournament I was messing around with this guy, and I asked him where the "win" button was. His reply was, "It's on the GameCube controller." I use the 3DS... y u do dis

Shulk's jab is a punch, hits on frame 5

Cloud's jab is a roundhouse kick (i think), like Mario's (which hits on frame 5) yet he hits on frame 4.

WTF?

Actually Cloud's jab 1 is a side kick, jab 2 is a roundhouse just like Shulk's jab 2. If you look closely you'll see that Cloud brings his foot up from straight (while facing sideways) and then kicks straight out, hitting with the right side of his boot, making it a side kick, as opposed to a roundhouse kick which hits with the top of his boot and comes from the side of his body like his jab 2. Sorry to nitpick lol

Shulk's slow jab is another reason I use dtilt a lot more than jab. I love dtilt, it's only a little slower than jab (well not "a little" but not horrid), has a lot more range and the base hit sets up for strings.

Still, I'm pretty sure anyone can punch faster than someone can kick*. I think Shulk should have a frame 3 jab.

EDIT: *Except Lucas. That kid can d-tilt all day

Doesn't matter if it's a punch or a kick to be honest. No way in hell Shulk's jab deserves to be frame 5. Lol. At least frame 4, similar to Ike's jab. Idk why it's frame 5 to begin with. Shulk's jab doesn't even have a disjoint at least to compensate for it

Is Corrin's jab disjointed? Because that hits on frame 5. Just makes sense.

Shulk's jab should be faster, but his tilts should be given more range, not better frame data, or he risks morphing into an Ike clone

Yep. Her jab is frame 5. Pit also has a frame 5 disjointed jab

I'm fine with Shulk's overall range. It's completely okay. Just buff his frame data and well, and some other **** I'm too lazy to list down (because there's a lot to fix with this character)

I absolutely agree that Shulk's jab should be at least frame 4, if not 3. 5 frames is completely unnessecary.

I've never played FE I don't know who the **** this is - looks like Isaac dyed his hair green and turned emo

He's the love interest (or kinda the mental brother) to the protagonist of Fire emblem radiant dawn.
Pretty neat pick.

Hello? Shulk's throws are NOT garbage. Just because they don't true combo does NOT mean they are bad. Bthrow does enough damage that you don't need to combo off it. Fthrow is fast and puts them offstage or near the ledge so we can edgegaurd with minimal lag compared to dthrow and does decent damage. It's low endlag and angle also lets us get uair and usmash strings off of it. Uthrow is great as well. There is NO better throw for baiting and punishing airdodges than Shulk's uthrow. Maybe you guys want better throws, but I love his throws. I guess coming from Cloud gives me bias?

AlvisCPU AlvisCPU You seem like a pretty good player, are there any videos of your Shulk I can watch? Really trying to gitgud at this game
Shulk's throws are fantastic for positioning.

This is my friend's Shulk, he's currently second on anther's ladder.
My internet speed is being a butt so I'll watch it later on, but "second on Anther's Ladder" is nothing to scoff at. He's probably gonna be way better to watch than me. I've seen the first stock, and I'm surprised that they didn't go early% Shield against Mario. That's usually my go-to Art so that I don't get up-tilted into oblivion. He totally didn't need it though. MALLC is on-point.

I honestly don't think I'm particularly good, but I do try at least. But I recently went through a tourney where they actually decided to put me on stream, though it was an "amateur tournament" for people who's tournament results hadn't scored high enough results recently :p all the same, I was seeded 7th and didn't drop a round til Grand Finals.

I haven't watched these so I don't know if the commentators were just paying me out the whole time :p we're all friends here. Also remember that commentators generally don't know how Shulk works, so don't take their advice *too* seriously.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvdqSOe_aHM - vs. :4pacman:, had no idea what to do in the matchup. Got one of the most stupid kills of my Smash-playing years at around 5:16.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-AeX1AwpGk - vs. :4link:, the favourite for the tournament. Forgot to ban FD in Round 2 because I am an idiot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KMVyJDJZNk - vs. :4pikachu::4ganondorf:, top-seed Winner's Finals. Pikachu's a rough matchup.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hxnBCRsaYk - vs. :4pikachu:, Grand Finals, same guy. My brain had fallen out by this point, it was getting really late. Forgot I could go back to Battlefield if I didn't win, forgot that I could have brought out a different character. One of the actual top players around here gave him the rundown on how to fight Shulk between our matches and it helped him 100%. Need to learn to tomahawk more, I was trying to in the match but really had to think it through every time. Any and all salt is directed at myself, haha.

Shulk is a funny weight that makes it so he can usually jump out pretty early anyways. Shield would be a good option for messing Mayro up though.

Ok. Zero made a video saying that Sheik died and that Shulk is his new tourney go-to...I'm not sure if this is a joke or not, but it better not be a joke.
Also me saying Shulk's throws are garbage was over the top. His Grab is garbage and his throws are alright.

Nah it is most definitely a joke. I think he will try Shulk in tourney one day though... At like a low tier event or something. He definitely likes the character, he was even looking where to get a life sized Monado on Twitter today which I think was serious

I think it was just part of his joke.

In general, I love how Zero treats shulk tho. He's optimistic and interested in him, and he see's how insanely hard, but kinda rewarding it is to play with him.

... if we'd just get a little better frame data.

Funny that of all days I should pop in, it would be the day they put FE everywhere for April Fools' day...
Getting Olivia ain't too shabby. *nods*

I find it hilarious that on one side of the island, people have more trouble fighting my Shulk, while on the other side they have more difficulty with my Robin... Very few exceptions...
I'm a bit out of practice, but I aim to change that once these last 6 weeks of school are over. Maybe I'l actually crack down on learning more than just FH MALLC....

EDIT: The heck, they even changed my listed mains... Even when one was already Robin?!

Oh, which island of Hawaii? The Big Island, Hawaii. Down at the southern tip... The downside is that I have to drive more than 60 miles to get to college or to Smash tourneys, and they're on opposite sides of the island. :/

Berserker. Berserker. Yeah, Hayato really does look kinda like Juju, lol.

As regards my Xenoblade Chronicles 3D playthough... I'm level 75 now. :) So nice beating up Gogols on Gaur Plain now...
Level grinding so I can beat Ms. You Will Pay For Your Insolence... Is Shulk necessary for that battle, i.e. does she use Soul Read ever?

Nooooo I missed Emblemboards... My life is over. Actually, wait.
*changes avatar to the most obscure character in the entire series*
Ret2go. Much like the Year of Luigi, the day of Emblemboards will never end. Until I switch back to Yu Narukami, anyway.

Well I went an unimpressive 1-2 at Pound today. Lost to a Megaman that I haven't played in like, months in a close 1-2, beat an eh Cloud player convincingly, and then I got run over by Little Mac, topped off wonderfully with my nerves making me backslash not quite close enough to the ledge. I'm still learning so much but lord do I hate that matchup. All his buttons beat ours and good freaking luck landing. Reminds me of Fox, actually.

Little Mac is hard match-up for you?

My friend's Rosalina, Captain Falcon, and Fox is a nightmare for me.

Shield Art + Rosalin's Uair = never touching the ground again

iirc she doesn't uses that, I recommend using Melia as lead with Riki and Shulk/Seven. to kill some Nebulae easily and build up your Talent Gauge for Mind Blast.

Can't remember with Soul Read, but I'd also recommend using Melia. In general, it's a good idea to pump your Ether Defences as high as you can. Pretty certain that this is one of few ether-focused bosses and it'll help quite a lot. If I remember correctly, ether attacks will bypass evasion so I (probably) wouldn't use Dunban here. It's been a while since I paid for my insolence so I'm not sure how to best tackle the fight. Just remember that you can recall party members to your position, don't let them die in the ether pools because they'll have trouble running around Lorithia's body to get out.

Did I do it right?
I have Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, but no new 3DS yet RIP
What's yall's opinion on Speed RAR nair? Been using it a little and it's an interesting trade-off. Similar to Speed pivot grab, it's rather telegraphed and has a lot less range than normal nair, but you hit with the hitbox behind Shulk (right when the move starts - a bit like the back hitbox at the start of Cloud's nair - I'm sure you know what I'm talking about), so you can FF it earlier, making it a much better combo tool since you land quicker and end up closer to them than a regular nair. I've gotten ftilt off of it on multiple occasions, pretty nice in Buster.

Oh and I started MALLCing today, it's a pretty cool tech, but it doesn't seem all that it's cracked up to be. It's soooooooo telegraphed - but it's free shield damage/positional advantage if they see it coming, and a nifty way to switch Arts I guess

Thanks for the advice. Ironically, I just decided to wing it at level 75 and went for Melia, Riki, Sharla, and did just fine. Surprisingly, I didn't have any Ether pool shenanigans. My Melia didn't die once under my control, but Sharla took a couple spills. It was very close.

I love that song "To the Last Battle"...
