In order to fully learn a language you have to have done one of 3 things:

1. Been born or live for an extended period of time in the country in which the language is fluent.
2. Learned it as a kid and continued to incorporate it into your growth.
3. Have it be applied in your job because you are truly passionate about the subject.

If you have to ask, I doubt you are any of the three.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I believe you have no right to push me away from trying to learn a new skill. And you do not need to be any of the three you have stated to learn a language. There are many people in this world who have learned a language fluently without any of the three points. As long as you have the passion to learn it is possible in my opinion. Which was of course stated in your third statement, but I got the impression, that, only people who need it for reasons that are actually require knowing the language can learn it. I could, of course be mistaken, and again, I don't mean to be rude.

I am, in fact very passionate about the subject and wish to learn it more than almost anything. I'm hoping to take classes later on as I am very busy at the momment. And the best thing that could help me right now is advice. And I hope to get advice that will build me up and not put me down. With that being said, I have yet another question concerning the subject...

Is it very difficult? Many people have told me that Chinese is difficult to learn, but I haven't heard about Japanese. Anyone mind clueing me in?

Again, replies are very, very helpful.

On Topic: I look forward to the next part of the pandacast today. Happy New Years everyone ^^

Looking for our princess in another castle.
I agree with Rikyu. I can speak German fluently, but I rarely use it, mainly because I find English needs less explanation. I have never been to Germany, I never 'incorporated it into my growth', and I certainly don't use it for work. So why did I learn it? I learned it because I wanted to. I though it was a neat language, and so I learned it. None of Blindman's points really apply.

I think Chinese is harder than Japanese. Japanese isn't all that hard. My main problem right now is my vocabulary and kanji knowledge.

I would just learn all the hiragana, katakana, and some simple sentence structure. That shouldn't be difficult. I don't know about learning from anime. Most anime character speak very frankly, which wouldn't be all that helpful. You should probably just learn to speak politely first since that's how you would talk in Japan unless you knew people there.

Panda, if I'm talking out of my *** let me know. Also, how is Genki? A classmate of mine said that she used it previously and that she liked it better than the book we use.

heres an easy solution to this dilemma:

4. You have learned it at school, or somewhere else because you wanted to learn a new language to be more smarticle(yes, i know smarticle isnt a real word, but I enjoy it anyway) or just to brag, or because you thought it was cool.

there, its simple.;)
yea, i believe chinese is harder than japanese (dont ask me to provide evidence to support this because i wouldnt be able to, i'm not pheonix wright, i just remember my spanish teacher saying something) but i believe thay those language are harder to learn then spanish, italian, french and german...

stilll havnt gotten to listen to the podcast yet. im gonna download them and save them for school wed, thurs, and friday(although, there have been reports of snow, which i hope we get...)

I've been listening to episode 26, and I'm almost in awe at how much both Gimpy and Samurai Panda don't like this past week of updates.

Seriously, you say you're reason for disliking the week was NOT due to a character or stage, but in reality, all roads lead to that reason when you can actually hate on some of the greatest updates we've had recently. I'm flabbergasted at how you can't really appreciate Overalls Wario, Trophy Stands, Share, and Dragoon when all of those give us such a good look at the game and offer us some really nice screenshots. I even think Share is one of the best "interface updates" of them all.

There really isn't a reason not to like these updates, or even not be interested in them, especially considering a lot of the boring stuff we got in November. In reality, you should be happy that we're getting updates at all, but that's not even the point. The point is, Sonic's music was pretty good, but marking it as the only real highlight of the week just doesn't seem right to me.

In all honesty, Panda, you seem just a tad too picky about updates. You just can't appreciate certain things for what they are; it's as if you both don't get the big picture and can't find an appreciation for the "little things" which is a lot of what the updates are about in the first place.

You're right! I'm not entitled to my own opinion. I can't believe I never realized that before.

You can be entitled to your own opinion Panda!

I just don't understand the opinion, period. Usually I can understand other people's opinions. In fact, I'm one of the most logical and balanced people when it comes to doing so. Compromise is something I've become very good at, especially from being a moderator in an argument-focused forum elsewhere.

I just find it hard to hit a level ground with you. I never said you couldn't have your own opinion, but I have a right to find your opinion questionable when you seem unreasonable about it.

Yeah, because your opinion is worthless to us. WORTHLESS.

Much <3, even though I don't care.

I agree with Rash in the sense of what he's trying to accomplish, but honestly couldn't care which way this ends up.

That's what I've been thinking since Episode 1.

To this I say, to each his own..

Uh... You want more reasoning behind my opinion? You'll get to hear plenty of it was we cover the updates individually. But also keep in mind that I am a very, very, multiplayer (specifically 1v1) focused smasher, so things like trophy stands and coin launchers are silly to me. And frankly, I have tons of friends. Do any of us care to use share? No. This is a mutliplayer fighting game, and it is simply an extra option for the people who want it. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will use that. I'm not one of them. Not only that, but each week has different circumstances surrounding it, i.e. the lack of a decent Christmas update, the fact that we are all on break, the fact that the week ended with a notice of no updates for a week, etc. All of these things are factored into my personal opinion of how the week was.

But anyways, I'm not going to go into more depth at all as to why I didn't like the updates and what not because thats why the we have the podcast. Plus, the podcast is always striving to get more opinions on the air, because we know our opinions aren't necessarily shared by the majority.

Well, I will say this: I find it hard to agree when people take personal account into play when it comes to analyzing updates. I mean, yeah, you may not use the feature being updated (in this case, Share), but that doesn't make it a bad update overall. We get more information, a better look at the interface, and from the Share update specifically we get an idea of what it'll be like receiving stuff from Nintendo. It's solid information no matter how much you actually end up using the feature, and therefore isn't really a bad update at all.

Then again, rating a week of updates isn't necessarily about objectivity, which I guess makes the podcast a little more interesting. Hearing differing opinions is actually one of the best parts. That's probably why I enjoyed last week's podcast with Buzz and Colbusman.

Anyway, thanks for responding.

See, I'd agree with your statement that people should not let personal feelings into account when analyzing things. However, we've stated from the very beginning that the things said in the intro are our opinions. And also, keep in mind that I do a ALOT of emotionally distant analyzing of updates. In fact, I'd say that is what I'm good at. But when it comes time to saying which update is "better" and which update I "liked," you cannot avoid being subjective. The intro is meant to be only our subjective opinions. We analyze the updates after the intro.

And I'm still waiting on the guest for today to show up so I can TRY to release the podcast on time. But I'ma go start playing Zack and Wiki instead of lurking the forums for half an hour :D

Part 1 has been blogged, so that means iTunes should be getting a hold of it right about now. I've set up a Smashboards download link that you can right-click and save for those who haven't heard it yet.

the reason i rated it so low is because although it's new information, it doesn't particularly interest me that much.

is that unreasonable? lol

i am curious to what the wording is for the japanese Overalls Wario update. does it say that he is the only one who can do this too?

After listening to the podcast, I can say that I may actually support Bowser Jr. as a playable character in Brawl. Why? Because I think it would be great for Gimpy to bring some nice father-son tagteam beatdown action to the competitive scene. :D

Yes, Panda already translated it. It's exactly the same.

Also, was I the only person who started listening to the podcast expecting low scores? Like Panda, I'm very VS. oriented. Maybe not enough to actually forget an event match (stares at SP), but it's all I do. I don't care for trophies at all. I'm not going to waste my time catchin em all during SSE unless there is a character or stage that is going to come out of it. Therefore, I found the Coin Launcher and Trophy Stand updates useless. The Wario update pissed me off because of the F-flab and because it deconfirmed Alt. costumes for everyone else. I loved the Sonic music, but seriously, Sonic's Final Smash on Christmas? Merry Christmas to you too, Sakurai.

And to end the week off, we get an announcement stating that there will be no updates next week. Nice. I was looking forward to two weeks of staying up late and F5ing the Dojo, but it looks like that isn't going to happen. Ah well.

I guess if you are interested in trophies and such, this was a pretty good week for you. I'm not denying that. However, I could care less for them. Ergo, I believe this was one of the worst weeks ever.

Pff, that's just his sexiest mod picture. And he's neither btw, Sariku, I can assure you. Take it from someone who's actually met with him several times in person.

And with this low score stuff, I'm surprising people are completely forgetting what score I gave the week...hm.

The only reason that I said that was because you thought you could learn just by watching anime. I thought you were serious.

I'm not trying to drive you away from learning a new skill. What I am saying is that it's pretty difficult to fluently learn a language, any language, later than 15-20 years in one's life. If you are really passionate, that's what I meant, but it has to be constantly used.

Believe me, taking classes is not the easiest way to learn a language. Granted, it is not impossible.

Woops, xD. I completely said the wrong thing, but I edited it and changed it. I meant to say "Proof that he is not Asian, but just an avid drinker."

Because no one cares about you, Youko. ;)

But actually, now that you mention it, I can say that I agree with your rating for the week. Definitely up there as far as overall content and satisfactory information goes. Nothing mindblowing, however. If there were an unexpected character update in place of Sonic's Final Smash or something, this week could've been a 10 in my opinion.

Not quite an avid drinker. We just happened to be at a beer museum at the time, and there was a giant beer can. You have to take a picture with a giant beer can when you see one. Its like a law.

It's someone hugging a beer bottle. Who else could it be?
