I'm a fan of many genres of fiction, one of which is science fiction. And after looking into the Mass Effect games, I can see that their character-driven and political stories is exactly what I want from a good science fiction adventure. But here's where we hit a roadblock, my computer does not like being upgraded and I am a huge PS3 fanboy. But the Mass Effects... well, they've lead me to seriously consider buying an Xbox 360. But here's where the problems come in, many of the exclusives either don't interest me or my PC can run them just fine. And the PlayStation 3 is my perfered console this generation so any mutli-console games that I want will end up on my PS3 if I buy a 360.

I like a veriety of games, but First Persion Shooters I have a shakey experiance with. Sure, there are plenty that I enjoy such as Half-Life and Halo (yes, I like the Halo series, get over it) but seeing how (to my knowelage) a majority of the 360's exclusives are shooters I'm not sure if I'll up for FPS' all the time. I also have abselutely no interest in Xbox Live. Why? Well, first of all I am not going to pay money so that I can join a disfunctional community. And let's not forget that online play has been free on nearly every other console that's ever had it, ever. That, and barring MMORPGs I just don't care for online gamming all that much with only and small handful of exceptions.

Another thing that's keeping me back from just going out and spending $200 on a 360 is the fact that I can only think of a total of eight games that I would want to play for the system. And they are as follows:

Mass Effect
Mass Efect 2
Halo 3
Shenmue II (Original Xbox)
Jet Set Radio Future (Original Xbox)
Panzer Dragoon Orta (Original Xbox)
Blinx the Timesweeper (Original Xbox)
Halo 2 (Original Xbox)

I've done some reaserch and those games should run just fine on a North American Xbox 360. However, eight games really isn't that many. To put it blunty, I don't want to go spend money on something that I'll probably not use very often.

The final thing that's keeping more from just going out and buying a 360 is all of the hardware issues. I have yet to meet a single person who's 360 has not had the Red Ring of Death or some other problem. Sure, you can send it in and get it repaired for free but screw that because I'd much rather have a console that never broke so I never had to send it in. As far I know, they have yet to adress these problems. And I'm kind of not into spending my money on something that will break easily.

Now, there are a few things that I do like about the Xbox. For instance, I love the 360 controller. They took the controllers of two much better consoles (the Dreamcast and the Game Cube) and mashed them together. The result is a great controller that I just really enjoy using. Another thing I like about the 360 is... um... er... that's it. I can't think of anything else about the 360 that I actually emjoy.

Unlike some people, if you put up a good enough argument I can be persauded to change my mind and see things from a different point of view. Before all of you PS3 fanboys come charging in to crusify me while screaming "tratior!" or you 360 fans tell me, "Yo dawg you made the right choice! F*** those PS3 F***ers! Yo, Modern Warefare 2? Dat s*** just aint good on the muthaf***in' PS3 so f*** those PS3 f***ers!", seriously think about what I've said. I really want to play Mass Effect, and when I bought my PS2 a while back I remember the only game I wanted on it was Kingdom Hearts before I discovered games such as Sly Cooper or Ratchet and Clank. Meaning that in the past I've had the same dilemma and walked away from it satisfied. So I'm open to any and all suggestions, thank for you help.

What about games in the future? Like Halo: Reach is coming out and stuff.

That might be something to factor into your decision. I don't have a 360, so I can't really comment on whether or not you should get one.

The biggest thing the 360 has going for it is Live, believe it or not. Yeah, there are idiots on there, but you can probably find (or make) lots of friends you enjoy playing with too since the community is huge.

I, and most people, find it pretty enjoyable. Sure, it's $50, but to be honest it's the best online console gaming experience out there.

So if you're not going to enjoy Live, 360's will be that much less appealing to you.

Also, I've already had two 360's RROD on me, and I've owned 360's since it came out like five years ago. So yeah, it's a pretty annoying problem.

It sounds like the only reason you're interested in getting a 360 is for one or two games, the mass effect series. You're not comfortable with almost any other feature of the 360 (though I do have to agree; the 360 controller is sexy). I generally don't think that buying a console just for a couple games is worth it, so I'd say just don't get it, especially when you already have a PS3.

I don't know much about Reach, mostely because of all that I've heard about ODST being a $60 expantion pack.

The hype machine does exist for the 360 a lot more so than the Wii, so be prepared...
Actually, that's the reason I went PS3 in the first place. The 360 was so hyped to the point where I just kind of said, "It can't be that good, I'm going to go look into what Sony has to offer..." and the rest is history? It also helps that learned from the GameCube that is a console gets a lot of hate, it's probably for ignorant and/or stupid reaons.

So, you have two systems without all the hype for twelve mothers (viz. PS3 & Wii), then you go for the 360.

Sounds a little counter intuitive to me, but to each their own.

In that you have ascended up the hype ladder, rather than down it...

Personally I found Dead Rising to be a disappointment. It started out really well and after a couple hours just turned in to walking around a ship shooting aliens in the arms and legs. It wasn't terrible but I expected a lot more suspense and...freaky moments, I guess. Stuff like seeing the shadow of something run behind you only to turn around and see nothing there.

The zero-g stuff was pretty neat, I suppose.

I wouldn't buy that 360 if I were you...

The PS3 does everything the 360 does and several times better.... and this isn't even coming from a PS3 fanboy. I bought the 360 first, and largely regret it.

Online:
360- Pay for a connection- yes, you're paying for internet you already have. On top of that you're buying a $100 wireless adaptor... the ****ing Wii has a built in wireless adaptor and everyone makes fun of it. Xbox Live also has the worst community.
PS3- Free online. Thank you, Sony.

Game Selection (just some examples):

360-
1) Halo
2) Halo 2
3) Halo 3
3.5) Halo 3 ODST
4) Halo Reach
5) Modern Warfare 2 (multiplat)
6) Assassin's Creed 1 (multiplat)
7) Assassin's Creed 2 (multiplat)
8) Tales of Vesperia (the real winner) (multiplat in Japan, may be multiplat in NA later, but unconfirmed)
9) Mass Effect 1
10) Mass Effect 2
11) Devil May Cry 4 (multiplat)
12) Final Fantasy XIII (multiplat)
13) Blazblue (multiplat)
14) Bayonetta (multiplat)

That's pathetic, especially considering most of the titles are multiplat or FPS's.

PS3-
1) Demon's Souls
2) Tales of Vesperia (in Japan, but may be released internationally later)
3) Devil May Cry 1 (PS2)
4) Devil May Cry 3 (PS2)
(Screw Devil May Cry 2. I'm a fan, but that's an awful game.)
5) Devil May Cry 4 (multiplat)
6) Infamous
7) Modern Warfare 2 (multiplat)
8) Assassin's Creed 1 (multiplat)
9) Assassin's Creed 2 (multiplat)
10) Final Fantasy XIII (multiplat)
11) Blazblue (multiplat)
12) God of War I
13) God of War II
14) God of War III
15) Resistance
16) Little Big Planet
17) Bayonetta (admittedly better on 360)
18) Metal Gear Solid 4

That's pretty impressive... Has a wide range of games including FPS, Beat Em Up, RPG, Sandbox, etc. I would be able to name more if I actually had much knowledge of the PS3.

Cost:
360- Same as PS3 slim (and I'm pretty sure that's without the 360's hard drive).... but it's going to break down in a month or two, causing it to require repairs... oh joy...
Fortunately there is the....
360 Elite- Pay another 100 dollars for what should have been already included... and it probably still doesn't have that wireless adapter (I wouldn't know... I don't own one).

Graphics:
PS3 wins... Nuff said.

There you go. Call me a PS3 ****er if you will, but I'm not one... and I'ld be the ****er that won this thread through fact. Thank you.

... yeah. I think the above post must have hit part of my id pretty hard or something. Because now I feel like sucking it up and just waiting a few years to get a better computer then getting the Mass Effects. Thank you for reminding me that the PS3 will always be supprior to the 360.

Am I the only one who thinks that the 360's new-ish interface is like a bad version of the PS3's?

^Elaborate. Now that Mr. Lionheart's had his say, it's going to be pretty hard to change my mind.

And if you read the op., you'd know that I don't care for online. That, and getting cursed out over the internet by some tweleve-year-old who thinks that he's bad-*** just because his mom lets him play Gears of War does not sound like a good time to me.

RATCHET AND CLANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap each and everyone of you should go and buy a PS3 along with all of the Ratchet and Clank Futures. Then, you should do it again and give it to your best bud so that way s/he can experiance the raw awesome that is Ratchet and Clank!
I would, but I need to save my money for prom. :ohwell:

I'd get a 360 for all the AAA exclusives coming out this year. (below are just a few)

Halo: Reach
Crackdown 2
Mass Effect 2
Alan Wake
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Fable III

Also, I'd recommend getting a XBL subscription because LIVE is better than PSN IMO. Most of the PS3's former exclusives are now on the 360 and most multi-platform games are superior on the 360.

EDIT:

Just look at it, please. Games like this never leave Sony's platforms.

After ODST, something tells me that this is going to be yet another $60 expantion pack.

Crackdown 2
Doesn't interest me, so I'm kind of indeferent.

Mass Effect 2
It's so exclusive that I can play it on my computer without having to buy a 360.

Alan Wake
Okay, I'll be honest. This game seriously got my attention when I saw the trailer for it at E3 last year.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
I don't care for the Splinter Cell series.

Fable III
I've heard mixed things about the Fables. But since I've never played any of them, I don't really care for the franchise.

Also, I'd recommend getting a XBL subscription because LIVE is better than PSN IMO.
I'm not going to pay for a service that's been free on every other console. I'm also not willing to put forth money so I can get yelled at by some twelve-year-old. So, how is XBL better than PSN? I do know for a fact that you don't have a PS3, so where are such opinons comming from?

Thanks. We will enjoy GTA IV, DMC4, and FFXIII. :)
You do know that Insomniac is a Sony-owned company right?

Also, Capcom, Take-Two, Square, they all have one thing in common: they will flock to the most popular console so they can make more money.

Actually, you've got it backwards. Most 360 exclusives are now on the PS3 and most multi-platforms are equal to or superior to the 360 version on the PS3. Sony is very stingy with their exclusives, with only a few afforementioned exceptions.

The 360 is a shooter console... nothing more, nothing less.

Most? Okay, please name them. The only decent exclusive we've lost to the PS3 was Bioshock and Dead Rising IMO.

39 million is more than 31 million. Sony can't catch up.

Bioshock, now on PS3

Lost Planet, also now on PS3

Darksiders, no frame rate issues on the PS3 version

Final Fantasy XII, the PS3's supperior graphics and storage make it so that not only do we not have to change disks, but the game looks a hell of a lot nicer too

That's just off the top of my head.

Also, where are these number comming from? Is that sales or what?

Assassin's Creed I and II.

Prototype (it's a horrible game, but it's one of the 360's more popular games). PS3 also has the better, and exclusive, Infamous.

An easier task would really be naming the "decent" exclusives that the 360 has kept:

Halo (lol) - also, keep in mind that Sony bought Bungie, so we'll see what happens here.
Gears of War (lol again)
Ninety Nine Nights (critically pinned, but a very good Beat Em Up, though certainly no Devil May Cry, and this is coming from a Beat Em Up fanboy.)
Tales of Vesperia- I'll admit... it's amazing... but in Japan, it's not even an exclusive, the PS3 version being superior, and let's see if Namco decides to actually internationally release it.
Fable- A good series that experienced a drastic decline into mediocrity. With how bad Microsoft is at appealing to people with common sense... I don't see this changing.

Oh look... I'm done.

Also, those sales numbers mean absolutely nothing... Most of the 360's sales are for ******** Halo fanboys. They will buy anything that involves guns and a suit of armor.

Um, hate to poke holes in your argument but Assassin's Creed was never a console-exclusive series.

Same goes for Prototype. I can't say which one's supprior, I have yet to play Prototype.

Nope, 360 is lame, i regret wasting 300$ on something so crappy.
I got games for it, and unlike Wii and PS3, I got Lazerburn on all of them.
The total cost? 240$
Not counting the games that were admittingly good enough that i was willing 2 buy them again!
Overall, heres my list:
1. Wii
2.PS3 (4 now, i havent rlly played it)
3. PS2
4.Gamecube
5.Xbox
6.Xbox 360

If you wanna save money, dont waste time buying a 360 like i did, you will terrebly regret it.
But the person above is right, just to let you know....

2) Tales of Vesperia (in Japan, but may be released internationally later)
Out of curiosity has there actually been any proof that an international PS3 version of Vesperia will be released? I was under the impression that they will not do this, as Symphonia also had a PS2 Japanese version and never went international. And Symphonia was pretty successful for the series. So I would expect if they were planning to port, they would have done it already.

Oh trust me... you do not want to play Prototype... it is a Sandbox that, while giving you endless sadistic options, purposely tries to bring the player away from the fun parts of the game (exploring and mindless killing) in favor of the game's AWFUL missions that are never challenging so much as they are cheap. The Achievements are so laughable... you don't get them for reaching important game points... you get them for doing ludicrous things... like beating the game without ever dying (very very close to impossible) and only killing 10 or less civilians in a playthrough (lolwut.... isn't killing those poor innocent people who often get caught in the crossfire of your attacks when you fight enemies part of the fun of the game)?

On top of this, the game is riddled with idiotic design choices. To jack a tank, you must button mash Y for several seconds, during which time Alex can be shot off by other tanks and missile wielding soldiers.

The story is awful. It stars a main character with amnesia, and the confused mess of a tale only goes downhill from there.

There is no possible way that the PS3 exclusive Infamous can be anything but superior to this awful game, and from what my PS3 owning friends have told me, it's great.

Edit:
No... there is no confirmed international PS3 port for ToV.... Namco is probably the single most biggoted gaming company ever, withholding games for no apparent reason other than possible (probable) hate for Americans/Europeans/Potatos. Still.... I listed ToV because of the slight possibility of it becoming yet another great 360 exclusive to be multiplatted.

Tales of Vesperia isn't popular enough outside of Japan for Namco to release it for the PS3 elsewhere.

It really sucks, since the 360 version of Vesperia is honestly just a beta version compared to the Japanese PS3 version, which has all of:

+ 2 more playable permanent characters
+ Completely changed dialogue/script to accomodate the new characters (overall script length nearly doubles)
+ New towns
+ New dungeons
+ New bosses (Like the SWORDDANCER)
+ New skills
+ New weapons
+ New equipment
+ New artes
+ Party coliseum
+ New skits
+ New subplots
+ Remodelled towns
+ Overlimit 8 upgrade instead of Overlimit 4
+ 16 arte shortcuts compared to 8
+ New sidequests
+ New music
+ Boss fights replayable
+ New mystic artes including a dual mystic arte
+ Scene skip feature
+ New costumes
+ New mini-games
+ even more I missed..

Sigh.

Namco has stated that they have no interest porting it outside of Japan. /cry

Also, I'm wondering if anyone saw my post on the first page. No one bothered to respond to it, lol

You know, the PS3 is getting some **** fine games this year if I do say so myself. Off the top of my head:

Heavy Rain
God of War III
The Last Guardian
MAG
Modnation Racers

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Not to mention the countless amazing multi-plats coming out this year (like Dante's Inferno)... sure that doesn't grant points exclusively for the PS3, but it only improves the overall game selection.

Why do you dislike Beat-'em-ups? Repetitiveness? If that's the only reason, then I would hope Devil May Cry is exempt from your scorn, seeing as it actually tries (and I feel like it succeeds) in creating fun combat that is as non-repetitive as possible.

Devil May Cry is one of the Beat-'em-ups that I liked. Great combat, lot's of ways to costomize your character, and it's tons of fun.

What did you think of Beyonetta? I personally didn't like it. Like, at all.

Thanks. I thought that it wouldn't be ported anyway. I think that it's interesting that the western release for XIII is getting an Xbox and a PS3 port, but for eastern release it's only going to be a PS3 port. Sucks for them.
