Am I the only person that has trouble shorthopping? I can never seem to shorthop in the middle of a match, and I manage to only shorthop half of the time when training. To shorthop, do you need to press the jump button lightly, or can you press the jump button very hard and release it quickly? Kthx.

Who are you using? Some characters are harder to SH with than others.

I just tap Y really fast which also makes me tap it lighter than I would for a full jump.

Just got to practice practice practice, you'll get it down.

Are you the Ganondorf at DGDTJ who entered as Elesdi? With Ganondorf, to SH, just press the edges of the jump button. As you gain muscle memory, you will instinctively SH by lightly pressing the jump button even if you press the center of the jump button. This applies to all characters actually not just Ganondorf. This worked for me when I began playing competitively.

I main Captain Falcon.

@Metal
No, I've never entered a tourney. I just stick to playing with the people in my neighborhood.

And thanks for the advice, guys.

I press the edges of the jump button with my finger nails to short hop. Never full jumps that way.

When I just started playing I couldn't shorthop with fox with any consistency.

Just practice and practice, it's always harder to do something in a match than it is in training mode. You may want to shorthop with fox or some other character that has the smallest window, so when you switch to slower characters they are that much easier.

Merely takes a lot of time sitting and practicing. I used to have trouble shorthopping with falcon too but you just have to spend time practicing, it's not so hard.
