GI: Have you been consulted at all for the usage of Link or Sheik or Ganondorf for Smash Bros. Brawl?

Aonuma: I’ve been working with Sakurai for a very long time with this new Smash Bros., because the Wii came out and when discussion for a new Smash Bros. took place nobody could think of anyone other than Sakurai working on it. He was kind of the default, and I was very happy to hear that he would be working on it. Actually, my designers did work on the designs for Sheik and Link and Ganondorf. So they submitted the initial designs, and so it would fit in the Smash Bros. Brawl environment, they’ve had to tweak some of the designs. But Sakurai has brought those altered designs to NCL. We’re working very closely with the team of Smash Bros. Brawl to make sure the characters look their best.

What do you guys think, this is Game Informer we're talking about so I think this is reliable.

Good find! It's very reassuring for Sheik and Ganondorf fans, anyway. I know loads of people will reply saying "But it's TP Zelda, how can Sheik be in?", but you never know. Maybe Zelda still transforms. The interview speaks of tweaking Sheik's look. Or maybe Sheik's a seperate character altogether? As in, Zelda OoT as Sheik, where as TP Zelda is in too.

At a second thought, even though this is practically confirmation, i'd wait until an official announcement is made.

I just thought that while they're both likely to be characters, what if one (or both, although not likely) are Assist Trophies? Ganondorf isn't likely, but especially with TP Zelda, maybe Sheik is?

Just a thought.

Hmmm... I'm kind of a die hard Anti-Sheik advocate, so I guess my only hope is that somewhere in the translation "Sheik" was confused with "Zelda." Maybe it's a bit far fetched, but I despise the idea of Twilight Princess Zelda transformaing into an entirely different character.

Still, good find Adi.

(I hate you...)

I'd welcome Shiek back, the more the merrier. If that is the case, I just hope they make Zelda a lot better (or sheik a bit worse...sorry shiek lovers) so she doesn't get overshadowed again...it's not like S/Zamus where you're forced to play both aspects of the character.

...

I don't know whether I should be rejoicing or bashing my skull against the wall.

I'm a Sheik main, but...I was actually expecting her to go poof.

Lol, I kinda thought it was weird too. Considering the similarity in the way ZSS and Shiek move it'd be weird to have two ninja like characters with similar movesets <<. Also she isn't in the most recent zelda's either, so maybe she's an assist trophy...

In any case, we'll have to wait for Sakurai's confirmation to see if this is real or not.

BTW don't credit me, I dug up this link on the gamefaqs forum, I can't remember who posted it lol but yeah..

Well.. It doesn't CONFIRM IT.. But it raises the chances quite a bit.

Wondering what Sheik is going to look like.. Should give her a more feminine figure XD

Also, I will shoot the first person who mentions that this is fake because Sakurai's name is spelt as "Sakura". -___-

Web reporters are sometimes as lazy as programmers. They don't know how to spell check.

But anyway, this also means that I might be right about that Friday update after all two weeks ago.

Lol, it's spelt right on the site, I must have accidentely backspaced it or something <<, I tried to edit it but it won't let me, I guess too many people are looking at the thread and lagging it up or something =P.

Man, those are my two best characters, but I share sentiments with Smooth Criminal. I really thought Sheik was not going to be in Brawl, and I didn't really care that much.

People clamor so much about Ganondorf having a sword, and while I think it would be cool for him to have a sword, I thought his moveset/style (yes, I know he was a clone, but still) in Melee fit him so well that I really don't care which way they go on that. Question- I didn't play TP, and I'm assuming that is the character model they are going to use, but does Ganondorf use his sword a lot, or at all, in that Zelda installment? That could be a hint.

As far as Sheik goes, if this is really true and the guy didn't really mean Zelda instead, then I really hope she is a completely different character. If the TP Zelda transforms into Sheik, that will totally screw up any continuity in basing the characters off of their newest iterations. I also think that complete character transformations was a cool idea but is fundamentally flawed. I think it is inevitable that one side of the character completely eclipses the other character, so I'm not sure how I feel about Zamus.

But wait, maybe that is why they chose the Final Smash method of transforming Zamus? Maybe they thought it was the lesser of two evils, the greater being the complete lopsididness (that's a disaster of a word) that was Zelda/Sheik.

Lol, it's okay now. Looks like GI edited it over and fixed the typo. It's just GameFAQs annoying the hell out of me again with their ability to jump on something quickly and calling it fake because of something so miniscule.

That made me laugh so hard. Maybe I'll give TP a shot. I own it, I've just never had the patience to sit down and play it (I feel like an old man, losing my attention span).

And is there any doubt as to what Ganondorf's Final Smash will be? A giant ****ing pig owning mad *****es.

I don't doubt that Sakurai will have picked up on the fact that Ganondorf fans were slightly put off to find their beloved King of Evil reduced to a Captain Falcon clone, and figure that he'll be a character all his own this time around.

If only I could find the post I made a few weeks ago (that I was mocked for) when I GUARANTEED that Sheik would be back.

Oh. SNAP.

I call bull****.

1) Why would there be a question about Brawl.... IN A ZELDA PHANTOM HOURGLASS INTERVIEW. The way it's asked out of no where and being really off-topic seems really fishy..,

2) Why would he leak info on characters that haven't been announced Sakurai, the actual developer, out of no where? If this was real, he would have said something like "It's not up to me to answer that question. just wait and see," or something along those lines.

That's just as much of a "leak" as if someone nad "leaked" the names of Ness, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, the Ice Climbers, Peach, etc. They should be expected to return.

Tell me if you think the fact that the interview is with Eiji Aonuma, the man behind Zelda these days, is irrelevant information. I would think he'd have a say-so in this as well. And plus, I've seen many off-topic questions asked in interviews before. There's nothing fishy about that. It's just interviewers wanting to get something off their chest, I'm sure. Seeing how the source of this is Game Informer, who are reliable, there's no way why it could ever be fake.

I dunno, I think this goes back to the original status of Brawl back in 2005. Basically, if Sakurai had not rejoined and taken over for the new installment of Smash, whoever was going to lead it would not touch the characters from Melee. All the would've done is add more to it.

Obviously they would tweak, but as far as new moves and such, they were going to leave them as is.

Bear in mind that I know little or nothing of game development, but Aonuma uses the phrase "initial design" when discussing his team's contribution to Brawl, which would seem to suggest concept art or maybe rough 3D models. However, I don't think that just because they have a rough rendering of a character, that character will necessarily make it into the game. I still wouldn't regard Ganondorf or particularly Shiek as "confirmed" until we hear from Sakurai himself.

Slow down, kids. Let's assume this is true, as it is from a reputable source, but recall that Aonuma talked about submitting those character designs. I'm sure someone had to submit a design for the Balloon Fighter for Melee; that doesn't mean it made the final cut. Sakurai undoubtedly began with a large pool of designs, probably more than one per character, and narrowed and refined the list from there, as Aonuma mentioned. Taking into account translation, this tells us little about character inclusion, but much about NCL's involvement with Sora.

To those who say the question is irrelevant and thus the article is fake--GameInformer was digging for us--look at the way they posed the question. They were attempting to weasel information, and it almost worked. Props.

I agree with Pomfrod. Just because designs were submitted, doesn't mean these characters are confirmed. I'm not saying they won't be in Brawl, I'm just saying that this isn't a confirmation.

My verdict is that this means Sheik is an AT.
It can not be happening that Sheik will be in while WW Link or Midna or whoever else deserves it more, won't.
I refuse to believe that.
