actually after watching that vid carefully and doing some testing i figured it out:
sheik becomes lighter when she charges her forward smash, by a lot aswell. i dont know why she does, but this makes her fall from the shine.
i wonder if other charged smashes do this?

All charged smashes make you fall from shine always.
now bowser =P that beast is to heavy
but well i guess all smashes just make you lighter when you charge them. i tested with KO percents and sheik died from upsmash @ like 75%....in PAL (usmash is way weaker here). in NTSC shed prolly die @ like 60%:\

It kinda makes sense, though, logically speaking. You see someone charging up a BIG MOVE WITH CRAZY CONCENTRATION and then someone comes up to you and shines you. I mean, if that happened IRL, I would think they'd fall over.

yeah that's probably why they programmed it that way. to keep with the realism of the game.

it sure is handy that every time someone tries to punch me, i can just erect an impenetrable shield around myself, too, speaking of that.

If Melee was real life, that'd be ridiculous. Fox u-smash? Wow, nice flash kick. DOUBLE JUMPS? And Captain Falcon's n-air's?!?! But the most ridiculous is his u-throw; he grabs with his hand and then somehow throws with it, lol.

If you want to talk about smash keeping within the "realism of the game", we're going to need to address:

Talking woodland creatures with pants, lasers, and spaceships

Hermaphrodite ninjas that can disappear at will

Gorillas that rival the size of humans and wear ties

2 dimensional beings? lol

Floating balloons with amazing voices and appendages for limbs.

A swordsman with the power of fire that cannot defeat any of the aforementioned.

Lol. . ."appendages for limbs"

Say if I shine someone who is airborne. . . .

Does the stun end upon hitting the ground for all characters, or just those who fall from the shine?

Technically speaking, it only really matters for characters that don't fall from the shine. If you hit Marth / Peach / DK / Sheik etc. while in airborne, they'll land be able to move freely. If you hit Fox / Jiggs / Roy etc. while airborne, they'll be knocked down so stun isn't an issue anymore.

Every character in the game has a landing animation when they touch any surface after being in the air. When a character that doesn't fall from the shine is hit by the shine and lands on a surface, the stun that propelled them is now canceled by their landing animation. Think of it like that, so it never confuses you again.

Don't forget teching if you get shot or on a car crash. Maybe you can travel for free with high damage%.
