Her? Just cuz Zelda dresses like a guy doesn't mean she magics up the necessary hardware...

And good point on the final smash Mastermind. But I would still rather have it just good old down B.

We just need an update on Zelda's moveset to clear all this up. If her down+B is Shiek, then all is well. If it isn't, than we'll be busting our guts worrying over whether shiek is even in the game, hoping that the makers didn't decide that Zero Suit Samus was a good enough replacement.

Just gonna throw in my two cents concerning Zelda/Sheik.

Just because Zelda has the TP look does not mean she can't turn into Sheik. The TP look is simply the most graphically updated version of Zelda; as far as Brawl goes, Zelda's new look is not a determining factor for her movesets or any possible transformations. As others have already pointed out, she uses OoT powers in Brawl, even though she used none of them in TP. This being the case, Sheik is still in the air for Brawl, at least as far as we know, be it final smash or down B.

Although I don't really care wether Zelda cross-dresses in Brawl or not. :p

Well goddammit. I just realized that I swore a long time ago to never get involved in a Sheik-discussion again.
I demand a recount!

Anyway, magic spells are a tiny bit different from characters, don't you think? The spells were given to Link by fairies. So they are not the kind of magic that was designed by their user and only used by him, but they are the kind you get from spell books. Hell, in fact, didn't Link use these spells with the help of gems given to him by the fairies? At least that's what the menu makes it look like.
Hence, the spells are static object that can be given from one person to another, and passed down through generations.
Sheik is a different story.

Now hands up everyone who actually likes Sheik as a character.

Perhaps it would be easier if you understood what the poster who I was quoting was inferring. They/you/whoever said that Sora would not want us to know if Sheik "isn't" in. I'm stating on reasons why she is in there.

As for the rest of your comment, I don't see why they'd have to update a design for Sheik as a sticker, assist trophy, or normal trophy. Those things are too insignificant to redesign a character for the sake of posting it in a scratch book or making a two second appearance on the field of battle.

Aside from your heartwarming condolences towards Sheik, why would you feel that she has been cast out of the roster? Just curious. =C

They didn't say anything about UPDATING Sheik's appearance. Aonuma said that they handed over Sheik's INITIAL artwork - and Sheik HAS no TP appearance.

Fine, I'll paste it here, too.
Not to mention that submitting artwork is likely not a lot of work... it could quite possibly be that just about any company/division/etc. working on games with characters who have the slightest chance... were called to submit some of their character designs. After all, Sakurai needs some material to work with before even deciding who gets in... how else would he have known about Roy? And I strongly doubt that they'll just give him access to some sort of database and make the poor guy find out everything himself...
As long as the article doesn't downright state that Sakurai requested some new designs, nothing's quite proven.

PS: Oh yeah, and props to Schep for being an actual fan without being too biased to see the other side of the argument. I respect that.

PSS: I realized I didn't read the article closely enough. Oh well.

Actually, my designers did work on the designs for Sheik and Link and Ganondorf. So they submitted the initial designs, and so it would fit in the Smash Bros. Brawl environment, they’ve had to tweak some of the designs. But Sakurai has brought those altered designs to NCL. We’re working very closely with the team of Smash Bros. Brawl to make sure the characters look their best.
I never stated that Sheik was in Twilight Princess, you're jumping to conclusions.

When they say redesign, they mean change something aesthetically. I don't know why they would need to redesign a character to 'fit an environment' when they already had the original model from Melee, well I do, because the former cast mates are designed on a game that isn't of Ocarina of Time. The messaege is hidden between the lines, it just takes some time to get familiar with decoding things like that.

I hate how people are taking aesthetics as determining factors in any of this. A character's look has NOTHING to do with what that character can do, or which particular games their movesets are derived from. Link had his OoT look in Melee as an adult, and yet he could use a boomerang, so he was not impeded the way he was in OoT even though he had the OoT look. Mario is the most updated incarnation of him we've seen, and he has the FLUDD. I guess that can be the best example, as there are so many different "Marios", and they could've given him any powers they wished. His FS could've been a freaking paint barrage.

Take this and apply it to Zelda; they're giving her the most appropriate and graphically updated look for Brawl just as they did Mario, and everyone else. As with Mario, they're going to give Zelda whatever moves they so desire, with no timeline or real logic in mind.

There are two different sides to this point I guess, one is that if they're going to do that, why wouldn't they give her a Sheik transformation? It'd be the most beneficial to her as a fighter. Yet on the other side of that, Sheik may (and let's be serious, probably would) overshadow Zelda, and so that could obscure her as a character. So I guess it would depend on how much Nintendo cares about that. They may very well wish for Zelda to really be her own character this time around, with no counterpart to make her obsolete in battle.

We won't know until it's announced of course, but as long as we're opinionating and theorizing, I suggest to try to have more of an open mind concerning this. If not for arguments sake, but so as not to set yourself up to be dissapointed and look like a fool.

Err..what? O_o Did I miss a Mario game somewhere?

Seriously though, I'd like them to remove Sheik because it was such a disgrace to have to have a magic character depend on her athletic alter-ego.

Edited. :p

All arguments aside though, personally speaking, I wouldn't mind if Sheik did not return as a playable character. I'd like for Zelda to be a well rounded fighter this time around that people will actually use, rather than *Zelda secret jingle* at the start of every match. -_-

Well to be fair, people are free to use whoever they like. Right? If Shiek had a character slot in Melee to herself, people would play as her a lot, just like people play as Fox & Marth a lot. People who want to play as Zelda will play as her, people who want to play as Shiek will.

That's why I think Shiek should return. She's a good character, & if you go about the whole tier thing, she's not as good as Fox or Falco anyway, so I don't see the bad thing about her.

What I'm teeved about, is how so many people went to E4All, clearly lots of people will have played that fight in the Subspace Emissary, but noone even THOUGHT to test if Shiek was in it?! That's what annoys me. But I'm not too informed on E4all, I know the Brawl matches themselves were playable, but:

- Subspace Emissary may have only been played by Nintendo officials, maybe they were instructed not to reveal Shiek.
- Zelda's Down + B had not been programmed into that version of the game, for that purpose alone (though it would almost make it more obvious...)

That Subspace Emissary video you are referring to was prerecorded footage streamed to the TV. That's why you see so many different videos of the same footage on Youtube and stuff. Since it was likely that Zelda was controlled by a Nintendo official, of course they only revealed Din's and Farore's.

Anyway, are we all clear that nothing from the video in question comes close to confirming Sheik?

Completely, & thanks for clearing that up.

I guess we'll see eventually anyway, but if you ask me I think Shiek's return is fairly likely.

That's why, if Sheik was nerfed to be more well-rounded, then there would at least be equal amounts of people using Zelda and Sheik, taking into effect Zelda possibly has a buff. They shouldn't just scrap her because she overshadowed Zelda. That is something that can be fixed. That's why I believe that Sheik has no reason to be scrapped and Zelda has no reason to be unused. :/

If they can make it work, then I'm all for it, but I wasn't crazy about a disguise overshadowing the true character.

Anyway, so far as I can tell, Zelda looks much better, so I guess I'm not too worried if Sheik returns.

Remember the first video about brawl? When the four main characters transform into their new costumes? Kirby is the only one that doesn't change, because he is already as cool as he can look. Sheik, as well as Zelda, and all of the other characters, are going to go through some costume changes, and some aesthetic upgrades, that's all. Whether Sheik stays in his OOT costume, or if they make up something new for him, he'll look much better than he/she/it/potato did in Melee.

Going back and reading this entire thread, and looking at all of the semi solid evidence we have to work with, combined in with all of our opinions and bickering, I think that Sheik really can make it into this game; we have uncovered some pretty good points, and I'm sure they have twice as many people than we do here that have already discussed all of this for the company when they came up with the final list of characters. ...How much would that job pay? working for the Nintendo debate team, that argues with each other to decide all the stuff about new games?

The whole transformation was a both a quirk and a perk to playing Zelda/Shiek, and made the game more interesting. Kinda like the Ice Climbers (and now the Pokémon Trainer, although he should've been fully playable with whiffle-bat A-attacks and strong Poke-specials, AI Poke-pals, thus your strategy would be a lot of running away while mashing specials)

Whoops, got off a bit there. Anyway, since they were just making crap up for Zelda's specials, she won't really miss the B-down, and thus there's no reason to separate them... takes up a character slot that could go to some worthy underdog.

You know what really pisses me off? People who post **** like this and the "screenshots" are incomprehensible images blurred to **** that don't prove anything.

AT ALL.

its okay, its okay, that is what these forums are for. People need recognition, so we play around with all of the evidence, and try to come up with possibilities. I would like nothing more for them to put shiek into Brawl in any playable form, so I am trying to find any shred of evidence that can satisfy me until they actually prove/disprove him or not.

PS: If shiek is given his own slot, he will definitely be a male, because zelda wont be the actual character, disguised as a male ninja; it will just be the male ninja. Probably shouldn't have surfaced that again, but I wasn't around when that whole battle was fought, so I just wanted to throw in my two cents. (Princess Ruto reffers to Shiek as a boy in OOT, so he's a man, baby!!)

She's female in Melee and I doubt princess Ruto could tell the difference when it's a disguise meant to look male.

Sheik and Ganondorf are confirmed for Brawl. (Hint: Eiji Aonuma Interview)

Just wait until the Dojo updates it.

People who are citing the Aonuma interview are forgetting that they made Sheik for TP but scrapped it for whatever reason. That's why the model even exists; because they were going to use it for TP. I suppose they just went with the cloak in the end or something, but regardless, I doubt Sheik will get in because the Zelda characters from Melee were all from OoT. Link and Zelda in Brawl are from TP, so there's no good reason to believe that Sheik will be in.

If I'm proven wrong when the game comes out, so be it. But based on the evidence we have at this moment, signs are pointing to "no".

...what?
When was Sheik going to be in TP? O.o
I thought the cloak was merely a mourning cloak , not a full-fledged Sheikah disguise.
I can't see where Sheik would ever fit into TP tbh

I find it so funny when peoiple use the argument that the Zelda characters ARE the ones from ________, not the MODELS of them.

Looks like this Mario is form Galaxy and Smash 64 was from Mario 64, so they must be different Mario's right? But OH NOES this one doesnt have his little shooting stars and back flip and everything!

The characters look like their TP models because..... that's the best look for them. Do you expect them to look like they did in OoT in Brawl?

Link, Sheiks and Ganondorfs modesl were lal made by the same person. Now we know Ganondorf is gonna be a PC, so if this perosn made the Zelda models for playable characters, I doubt Sheik will be an Assist/Regular trophy. I'm calling her as playable.

No. They're are not confirmed in any way. Stop saying they are.
Yea they are, do some research.

this is the interview

GI: "Have you been consulted at all for the usage of Link or Sheik or Ganondorf for Smash Bros. Brawl?"

Aonuma: "I’ve been working with Sakurai for a very long time with this new Smash Bros., because the Wii came out and when discussion for a new Smash Bros. took place nobody could think of anyone other than Sakurai working on it. He was kind of the default, and I was very happy to hear that he would be working on it. Actually, my designers did work on the designs for Sheik and Link and Ganondorf. all it confirms is that they have a brawl look. it could mean they are confimed but i am skeptical. i doubt they would leak info so easily
