I'd really like to know that too. The direct was unclear, but since it's called a season pass, it'd make sense that there'd be more. But we might just have to wait the year to see for sure :/

also, I feel like we've switched places a bit somehow?

Its called a season pass, so maybe we will get more, but this season will last till Febuary 2020, which is about a year and 2 months. Long for a Season, but I think for smash since Sakurai hasn't started work on ANYTHING dlc releated, it makes sense.

I think the key of how many season passes we get is tied to how long the switch will be around. If the switch is nintendos system for at least 5 more years, then we should easily get another season or 2.

Yeah my theories died pretty badly. But I guess Sakurai is ok with empty spots on the Stage and music screen, which seems odd to me.

Also, I saw that pretty much every nintendo characters is a spirit. Donbe and Hikari, Lip, Mach Rider, CHorus Kids. If Sakurai is not going to use ANY character what is a spirit, the choices he has is SUPER limited...

In that case, he'll be limited to characters like Banjo & Kazooie, Steve, Sans, Sora and Edelgard.

It was just a self-depreciating joke my dude. I also don't think the stages of grief implies being mentally unstable, it's a pretty common response to grief.

As red dead said, Plant was most likely planned for base as the last fighter, #75, but had to be moved to post launch DLC as they couldn't finish it in time for launch.

I feel a part of Piranha being "free" DLC is to try and mitigate the backlash towards the character. By not being a part of the base roster it gives the impression that it was extra work added on after and by being free people won't complain about needing to pay for it.

Fair enough. Also we need to see all of the spirits to see if there are any of playable characters in their base form. That will give us somewhat of a framework when it comes to determining who can and cannot still be DLC (of course even then it's still speculation).

Also the fact that WayForward and Matt Bozon is still silent on the matter of her potential fighter status(unlike the part were she is a Spirit but they have yet to inform us whether or not that is all she is getting).

Yup, so really we can do nothing but wait till we see the first DLC fighter, probably won't be told it till next year. MAYBE we may get a hint at the gaming awards, like we just see a model like with Mewtwo, and they will be revealed in march or something.

Yup, they still aren't saying if she is planned for dlc or not, which is promising. Honestly being made a spirit is the best outcome for shantae(except base roster fighter), as it shows Nintendo knows and acknowledges her existence. It gets her foot in the door

To be fair I think A LOT of people are negitive right now. I';m not, still excited, but some people are not taking the news well. Isaac fans though I think are the only ones that really shoud be said, because all their work and pushing... got him back as an Assist.

Love this conspiacy theory, and I could see it being tied to how they are coming in. Like a Spirit returns but instead of going to the real world comes back as a fighter.

Like I said, the same applied to Trophies in previous games.
So that may be the case.

Of course, not for every single Spirit there is in the game.
I can't see characters like Hal Emmerich being a fighter.
But for a chosen few, I'm sure it'd work.

Yes Shantae is part of the Smash Bros. universe now.

Though they would need to negotiate the characters for the next game as well.

It's as I ultimately figured. Her chances at DLC are actually better than some would think, and if Wayforward and Matt Bozon continue to be quiet on anything Smash related after the game comes out, I think it's a safe bet there is more to Shantae's inclusion in Ultimate beyond a glorified sticker.

So, I took a couple of hours to compose my thoughts on what the direct showed us.

I'm kinda indifferent about Ken's inclusion, but I believe the trailer showed him off in a fairly good way. Incineroar being the newcomer got me pretty excited though and after seeing all the rediculous wrestling moves helped me want him more (He was also my starter in Sun/Moon, so that helps even more so).
Piranha Plant is definitely a WTF character, and I feel like any leaker claiming he was going to be a fighter would probably been called insane. Will definitely be trying these three (as well as every other character).

I am a bit disappointed that Isaac shows up as an assist trophy, but I am happy about some other ones which I feel could only work as assists, like Tiki and Dr. Wily. The Fatal Frame assist trophy also feels like a pretty nice way to represent that franchise.

I'm a bit on the fence about Spirits. On the negative side it kinda replaces trophies, which I did enjoy looking at (as well as the descriptions), with images we've seen before (similar to stickers in brawl). On the other hand, it could be a good way to show much more from all the franchises. I do hope that the spirits have descriptions and a way to upgrade the lower ranked spirits. My heart did sink a bit when I saw Shantae as a spirit, but it could open up new opportunities for her.

As for the story cutscene... I know that some characters were silly in it (looking at you Wii Fit Trainer), I still feel like its worth mentioning that pretty much everyone just got evaporated/captured with Kirby (of course!) being the sole survivor. All I can say is this... how is that fun Sakurai?! (On a serious note I'm pretty sure he was meaning they was focusing on the gameplay aspect).

So overall, I'm not super impressed with the direct, but it was going to take a lot more than one "eh" smash direct to make me cancel my pre-order.

And 'cause this is the Shantae thread, I feel like this may help Shantae chances as DLC more than hurt her. It, at the very least, lets Sakurai and his team tell us "We acknowledge her existance" which is a fairly decent first step.

I don't think they'll only have 5 DLC characters, since I expect the switch to last about... maybe 5-6 more years? I suppose it kinda depends on what the development team thinks. But for the moment, only time will tell.

After PP wee have give slots guaranteed, he said characters from scratch/not echos and they would bring with them stages and music... So....

1) Octorock from Zelda
2) Metroid from Metroid
3) Kritter from Donkey Kong
4) Zubat from Pokemon
And...
5) Waddle Dee from Kirby (but not the one everyone wanted)

She was the only thing I wanted in a game I knew I was already going to hate from the beginning. I saw the initial game play and thought, "oh, it's just slow, boring, no combos Smash 4." I never was going to buy it unless she got in. I just can't believe they would settle for something like this. Her "sticker" was shown for like 1/2 a second too. Is this really all she freaking gets despite her 16 years with nintendo.
I'm done. I'll stick to PM. I'll still be here but I'm just too mad to contribute anything.

The ONLY thing that makes sense to me as to why she would be DLC is that she is a 3rd party character and therefore royalties of the DLC would go to WF instead of royalties from the game itself.
