Uhh this just caught my eye when swimming in the sea of fake leaks

"the interview was published on the 6th of March and the project plan was started in late December. The interview itself was also featured in a magazine which needed to be printed and distributed so you can tack on even more time between interview
We also have no idea when the roster was decided, this isn't Smash 4. Sakurai said outright a ton of effort was put into getting the veterans back to the point where it almost didn't happen, therefore I would imagine newcomer selection timeframe be different.
Of course this is all speculation but the interview is a weak point at best and still doesn't explain the 2 and a half years worth of silence from Matt Bozon. Even YC wasn't under NDA till late 2016, implying SK's AT addition was added rather late."

That lines up with that rumor that guy mentioned on Alpha's video. He mentioned that Sakurai (possibly) got the exclusivity rights to Shantae, but was "too late" to get Shovel Knight's. Thus (possibly) explaining the time difference between one the two parties started being silent.

The post he quoted itself is a defense FOR Shantae. Against a thought regarding the timeline of an interview. It's a non-issue, but I can see why some people think it could be a flag, since the interview was after what people think the planning phase would've been.

People forget that third-parties are treated a little differently, too.

Does that mean both characters were planned to be playable?

Because if they were both planned as AT that would make Zero sense. Why would Nintendo demand exclusivety for NPCs?

I'm convinced everyone hates her. I have not seen more than 5 people outside of the ones on this thread say anything nice about her. We need to find a way to stop all of this hate. It's gotten to the point where Minecraft Steve is a fan favorite. (Heh. Remember when Shantae was a fan favorite and Steve was the troll request? Good times...)

He didn't answer the question though. If a character isn't gonna be in a game then why not just say so? There's nothing as far as I know that would prohibit a company like Wayforward, assuming Shantae isn't featured somewhere in the game, to just say she's "not in the game."

Likewise...is this really anymore of a stretch than the color of some chairs or a screenshot of ultimate vaguely resembling the battle screen of Golden Sun. I fail to see why Shantae of all the requested character is the one that get's the most hate, when LITERALLY EVERY OTHER CHARACTER BESIDES SKULL KID AND SHADOW are still completely 100% up in the air.
