The extra hits are sometimes a good mix up. They won't expect the last 2 hits (usually it goes SH DB once f-air).

I figure if it's being shielded I would have been punished on the ground anyways. Maybe it'll be easier to sheild poke if you do the down combo as they try to tilt the shield towards the changing trajectory of the DB?

The final down hit as you descend could shield stab a lot easier as it basically through every part of the shield if it's even a bit weakened. Could work to get them out of their shield.

But it's terribly risky, but if it's shielded, I suppose neither situation regarding DB is favorable, but what you mentioned could very well let us seize back even some sort of meager advantage.

Eh, I stole of Vietgeek here, and I start DB in mid air, just because it forms a wall, and if you hit with the last hit, your opponent will suffer maximum knockback because it won't be staled from the previous hits.

it makes me weird thinking about it. I've tried it and there was little avail with my friends, they all saw it coming somehow, I suppose Vietgeek is right in a way, on the ground and in the air, DB is still risky for punishment.

I've got to say, I use to think SH DB -> Fair was a viable approach... its pretty bad overall...

I like my DB's on the ground... plus DB stalls you and its an ouch when they realize its perfect spacing to do something.

What if you do something like a rising DB on the first hit? If I do SHDB, I end with the multi-hit green low poke thingy. It pressures shields and they can't really duck down underneath it. If you SHDB, you stall in the air a bit, and you usually won't get all the hits in before they shield or evade. I say if the first hit of DB misses, go with fair or Nair since you're floating around. But SHDB could be a good surpriser. I wouldn't use it as an approach... just something to be unpredictable.

lolwut

I haven't played his marth in awhile but I know he doesn't do that >_>
EL pointed it out in the shieldbreaker thread(lol location?) when he was fooling around with b-sticking shieldbreaker without setting c-stick to special. Then he just kinda posted his thoughts on DB with it as well. So ya, if you haven't seen him do it, he probably doesn't. But hey, you don't always pull every trick out of your bag =b.

Anyways, It's another trick in your bag. Use it don't abuse it in my opinion.

If you do DB in the air, and especially if you try to do a full combo into the mutlistab, they can just roll behind you off a block. Then you're usually stuck in the air facing the wrong direction and lagging from the DB, DB might be fast as an attack chain, but canceling a DB combo into an aerial is much slower. But it doesn't matter that DB chains are fast because you can't hit behind you with DB.

So SHDB is kinda like yelling "smash my back" if you use it too frequently.
