Of course it's true. But that's what makes it a problem. I don't want it to be true, and no one should. Once females are no longer f*cking diamonds of the internet, it won't be so awkward for them to be on regularly, in turn we'll have expanded the gaming community. Isn't that what we all really want?
... I'm a diamond?
Nah.
Trust me, I think fangirls are starting to take over the internet.

It's not like Nintendo is just now showing us sexy things. Metroid has had special Samus pictures in their endings since the first game I believe. Remember using an electric attack on Samus in the N64 game? It's nothing new, just making old things slightly more apparent.

i love women...
sh*t does that mean i am a furry:psycho: or alone:(
Hahaha, no son. But those thoughts you're having, while perfectly natural, are sinful and disgusting. Make a small incision in your hand and grab a handful of salt when you have these thoughts, to keep yourself clean in the eyes of, uh, Catholics I guess.

In response to the first post, back on topic...

I think in general there is a sense of sex appeal in the game, but not to the point where it is over the top like other games. We have probably all seen the "Alternate" Zero Suit that could have been used in it's place.

I think there is also a difference though in what can be done with male and female characters. For a male, looks are generally (not completely) less important in society than for a female. An attractive female will have a much easier time getting a job and getting along with people than an unattractive woman, and that goes for reactions of both men and women. It's just a natural mindset that "females should be beautiful." (that isn't meant to be a sexist comment)

So, from there, it's different to have "ugly males" in the game than it is to have "ugly females." Not all of them are overly attractive and pushing the sex appeal envelope like Samus happens to, for example, the only sex appeal Peach really had in Melee was her up tilt, which wasn't much anyway. And what about Zelda?

Samus is not really doing anything different than she did in any of her games. Go die in Super Metroid and see what happens: the suit is destroyed and you see a Samus with little clothing on. The original Metroid showed her in a bikini didn't it? No one really said anything about that, but at the same time, is that due to the lack of detail?

Basically what I stand by is Nintendo is not doing anything wrong, they aren't taking it too far. They could have made this something like Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive, but they didn't. Also, it's worth noting that there is still a "lack of female characters," even if a few more get confirmed. So much for sex appeal if you only have 6-8 female characters in a 35-40 character game, and only a couple are really going to have much sex appeal.

Also, I laughed at Captain Falcon up there. XD

I want female fanservice though. <_<
Link with no shirt plz, like in TP. *_*

'Sides, Nintendo is Japanese, and everyone knows Japan has a very bad sexism/**** problem. I'm surprised they aren't worse.

I don't want fanservice, I want women who can kick ***! Zero Suit Samus is not fanservice, since C. Falcon and especially Snake are in just as tight outfits.

As far as female Brawlers go, I really hope we get Vivian (Paper Mario), Daisy (Mario Bros.), Jill Valentine (Resident Evil), Midna (Legend of Zelda), Dixie Kong (DK Country), Shantae (Shantae), Krystal (Star Fox), and maybe several others, surprise ones! ;D

True, true. My only thinking is that if guys get fanservice, girls should too.

Meh.
I don't want characters in only cause their female, and I'm sure Sakurai isn't thinking on that track either *coughLyncough*
I wish Nintendo would make more female characters first in given franchises (hopefully so that Samus won't be the only *well known* female protagonist) and then add them to a future roster.

I can only think of Lip, Alice and Alexandra to fill the female protagonist roles...

And the less likely 3rd pary characters from Soul Calibur. Sophitia Alexandria, or Taki.
Shantae looks good... but CAPCOM... 3rd party... hmmm hard.

I don't think it's a bad thing to have fan service.. Well at least not too much.
Two or three female characters with fanservice will do for me. Any more and this will start turning into DOA. Somehow I just can't picture Mario going against teamed Ivy (SC), Hitomi (DOA) and Chun Li (SF)

... oh who am I kidding.. I never say no to fanservice. :D

I think if anything brawl will have a cute kind of sex appeal going on,

I thought Ivy from soul caliber was a unique choice but I'm not sure if she'd get in thanks to her default outfit.

The main problem with that, is when you make a female JUST to have a female, it ends up rather bland...

Hey, we make up 50% of the population believe it or not, making a female just to make a female character is out of the question.

Back on topic, sex appeal exists because it sells. EVen if it wasn't done on purpose, someone will always find sexy, because we are a unique and often sick species. Someone might be buying Brawl for Wario's sex appeal. A horrifying thought. And peopel saying about that it's a blow to females everywhere, no offense, but all the ones that complain complain about EVERYTHING. Put all the female fighters as ugly-triple-chinned hairy chested he-freaks, women will complain and say not all strong, fighting women are ugly. Make them all lithe supermodels and they will complain the women's figure is being exaggerated. And if they're going to complain anyway, might as well sell the game more by going for the mainstream audience of perverts, not the niche groups which are interested in starfish and Wario's jockstrap.

[/thread] XD

I just always wanted to do that, carry on. :p

You have no idea about the **** we have to deal with, really. >_>
I mean, I can understand guys being guys, though some really disgust me by sexually objectifying everything with mammary glands.
(then again, girls have the yaoi fangirls, which are starting to show notoriety with "sex sells")
I still don't understand what's the difficulty with showing normal women. Is it really that hard? :ohwell:

Thankfully though there is a nice amount of worthy nintendo females for brawl. I don't think nintendo would add a female just for the sake of having more females though so I wouldn't worry about seeing bland females in brawl.

I will admit that Samus is and will always be hot, but thats not why I want the game. I want it because of its sheer awesomeness. If brawls only appeal was you get to see Zamus nude for a minute, i wouldn't get it. (might get a weak moment and try to view a video of it on the web, but still not buy it.) Not all teen are only after sex appeal. So this or that characters hot, its not always the only reason to get the game. It may be being used, but it doesn't guarantee anything.

... You have the same name as my English 8th grade teacher. o_o

Err, back on topic;
I don't think the thread creator was generalizing that all teens are after sex appeal.

No, I don't understand, because I'm not offended. In truth, how many lead male characters AREN'T strong, young, blue-eyed masculine guys, or something that could be stereotypical and demeaning. They're either ridiculously well-toned and handsome or fat, old, ugly, or a mixture of all three. There's no "normal" people in anything, because nobody wants to see what is essentially themselves in a game. They want the big strong male, and the beautiful female, because it sells and it suits the developers and makes it a lot easier to develop then someone who looks "alright, but has a big nose". Why shouldn't men be offended by all these things that put the average guy in a bad spotlight, or the constant ramblings heard every day of things like "Wow, that guy (Orlando Bloom/Brad Pitt/Link/Leon Kennedy is HOT.", especially in front of men, since this just makes them feel insecure bout themselves when compared with a better loking person, especially by a partner or friend.

Yes, that went horibly off-topic. Essentially, although I respect women, I must say there's no reason to complain. The only people who take these figures like Ivy and Lara Croft as serious as real people have some sort of problem anyway, and having "normal" people wouldn't help them, and would lower sales.
