I didn't mean that you could get it back straight away, just that you don't lose Brawl skill over time.
And I meant that you could get back into realtively fast, and that you do lose the skill over time.
And ghost, my experience has shown what you just said to be incredibly false

I think playing brawl in a competitive environment at least once every 2 weeks is important in not only maintaining skill but actually striving to improve.

And ghost, my experience has shown what you just said to be incredibly false
It might take a little getting used to if you haven't done it for a while but you still quickly get your old skill back.
Of course there are some things that you'll probably have to practice a little bit if you haven't played for a while. (platform cancelling, DACUS (with someone like Sheik), character specific techs, etc.) But generally you relearn them really quickly anyway.

Learnt when I was like... 5... had to re-learn a couple years later.

It'd be like if Brawl got an update, tweaking characters moves and stuff, you'd get worse simply because you're not playing the same game.
