Even after that awesome official artwork of him duking it out with Mewtwo? Why? So we can make the same mistake we made in Brawl. Give Sakurai some credit, he's made mistakes, but to repeat such a big mistake twice in a row?

It doesn't emphasize it anymore than Brawl does. If anything all it emphasizes is the fanboyism of traditional fighting games.
Problem with Brawl though is that the Aura aspect is overbearing.

Apparently having actual martial arts for a Fighting type Pokemon (you know, the type that constantly emphasizes that sort of stuff) is apparently not a step forward from having the generic energy manipulation.

I am in full recognition of everything Mewtwo has in his favor, and perhaps that makes my vote for Pokemon Trainer all the more dumb, especially given that I generally loathe gut feeling-based reasoning. I'm just having great difficulty seeing the two most popular characters revealed within four months of the game's reveal with over a year to go, as well as a character as big as Mewtwo not being shown on a grander scale.

All Pokemon are equally likely. They all offer something and they are all valid choices. There are pros and cons to each. Don't feel like your vote was dumb. You can change it if you want.

You completely missed my point.

Lucario already had a martial arts style in Brawl. But the added Aura aspect was overbearing, completely masking it out. Like too much A1 Steak Sauce on a juicy steak.
Just because Lucario doesn't fight like ****ing Ryu doesn't mean he doesn't use martial arts.

Thanks, sorry if I came off as rude. They just seemed like obvious votes to me. If I were you, I would add them, if the participant wants to change their vote, or if they claim there is an error... it is a really simple and easy fix. Kikaru posted a giant picture of Pokemon Trainer. You can only see it if you try to respond to him though. That is why it seemed ambiguous.

Don't get me wrong, I'm standing behind my vote, but I do acknowledge the validity of the Mewtwo camp. He's definitely the one I'd rather see revealed.

Whatever the reveal is, it'll probably have even more of an impact than bloody Sonic, which is funny considering how site-crashingly massive he was just six years ago.

The way the Aura was treated was overkill.

It should have been limited to just the Smash Attacks and Specials. That way, people can actually see Lucario's actually using martial arts, and he isn't heavily crippled by the damage gimmick he has.

Most iconic pokemon ever: definitely for your age group IIRC, but not for every smasher.
Advertising/artwork: Has to do with pokemon more-so than Smash.
Greatly Recieved: Citation? With my weak anecdotal evidence of "most people I know," Lucario was disdained for seemingly replacing Mewtwo.

Mewtwo and Lucario occupy the same fundamental niche in this ecological community that is Smash Bros, and with a semi-limited roster, and Mewtwo's demand/popularity/resurgence, I'd call it a safe bet that Mewtwo will replace Lucario.

I always thought Lucario's moveset in Brawl was rather bland. I'd like to see some other fighting type moves, when it comes to his specials that is. Though he used some martial arts type moves, I agree that the Aura was overbearing. He used aura in every last attack. And I didn't like most of his specials either.

I'm convinced that, due to time constraints, they looked at the two characters they were developing (lucario and mewtwo,) and thought, "why have both?" proceeding to keep the modern one in place of the veteran.

So, more-or-less, yes, I think Lucario replaced Mewtwo. Not pre-development, but mid-development the go-ahead was made to forgo mewtwo because Lucario was an option.

It is universally accepted that he Plusle and Minun were part of the forbidden 7. What were some other theories, if you don't mind me asking?

That or the random button, but the Plusle and Minun theory makes more sense, especially since the Diddy/Dixie team was tried out as well. It seems Sakurai and co. have a thing for duo characters, which is why I'm not counting out Plusle and Minun juuuuuussssttttt yet.

If it's Zoroark confirmed, I would be very happy.

I would be surprisingly okay with this (as long as I get mah Ridley and K. Rool).

Whatever happened, they chose Lucario over Mewtwo or both. I think the most logical explanation for said happening is indeed recency (and henceforth, waning popularity for Mewtwo and rising popularity for Lucario.)

Regardless of which of the veteran Pokémon characters get confirmed, I would be happy. Yes, even Pichu (only if it was amazingly redesigned).

But still, something tells me we might actually get say Lucario and Jigglypuff both revealed by the end of February/the year.

That is just a "gut feeling" I have had for quite a while.
