I think they're both interesting in their own right.
But for SSB.... I tend to give a slightly harder look at them. Particularly Lloyd who's 3rd party.
I really REALLY don't see Sakurai going out of his way to include a 3rd party that uses a sword.... Over, for example, Pacman with a ton of new transformations, and quirky moves (if it means what I think it means) from his new game.
I'm going to post this again, because I'd really like an answer from you:I don't even think you know what relevancy means... I think you mean RECENCY, which isn't the same thing. By that logic, Megaman should move over for Master Chief because Master Chief is recent and Megaman isn't... No, we have Megaman because he is RELEVANT to the Nintendo franchise, even if not recent. Master Chief is recent, but not relevant to the Nintendo franchise. UGH Noah.....

I'd like to jump in to say that it's true that Xenoblade Chronicles is a much more niche game then the entire Fire Emblem franchise (for very obvious reasons), and it is indeed true that Shulk is less popular then Chrom. However, I would like to argue a few things. The first one that is probably the most notable is that there isn't a divisive controversy with Shulk like Chrom has, which in itself is a positive thing because people are alright with the idea of the character. It's probably because it's from the prospective of diversity, which in itself is a positive thing. Also while it's true that Shulk is less popular then Chrom, popularity isn't exactly the ultimate factor for inclusion but rather a combination of different factors. Keep in mind that the lower popularity is contributed by Xenoblade Chronicles being a niche game vs. a franchise that has been going on since 1990 and has a habit of inflated popularity due to recency.
If experience has taught me, there would be a lot more people satisfied with Shulk then Chrom.

It is so funny how people always use that wiki argument when it destroys their so called "fact" and most of the time Wikipedia is right anyways. Sure it can be edited by anyone, but generally speaking, the people who work on it do a good job of ficing up anything a troll might try to do. Als Chrom has placed higher on the poll that is in this very same site. so that kinda beats your point of Shulk being more favorable then Chrom as the opinion of Smashverse. But my point still stands. FEA has been out for only 6 months and has sole over 1 million copies and that is from a single game in the whole series of FE. Xenoblad has been out for 3 years and hasn't gotten anywhere close to the sales of FEA, not even to the half-way mark. So FE is more relevant then Xenoblade.Wikipedia isn't a reliable source...

you should try comparing Megaman to someone who actually has a chance in hell if you're trying to make a point. regardless Fire Emblem is still a relevant franchise. having a very successful game fairly recently as well as another one coming just around the corner. while Xenoblade had a game 3 years ago and frankly Shulk has no hints at being involved in X anyway so that would make him not only irrelevant to Nintendo but even to his own series.I don't even think you know what relevancy means... 45 (realistic) to 50 (idealistic). However, the bigger the roster, the longer the development, unless we get clones and semi-clones.

Aww man. Wonderful 101 looks like it has so much potential in a game like Smash Bros. I don't know why, but it just looks like they fit. Make every move one of the Unite moves and you've got a really unique character, and the Final Smash can be the Wonderful 101 (makes attacks stronger and bigger).

I think they will try to round it up to 50, even if it means addint a clone or two.

*I tease of courseOn a serious note I'm thinking the roster will be between 45-50 also but that's just for shall we say, select screen characters. Brawl may have had 35 characters but technically 39 different people to play as. As a result I wouldn't be surprised if the roster just judges over 50 if you include Sheik, the Pokeman's Pokemans, ZSS and any other alternate versions.

My opinion stands at a firm 45 - not including transformations (though I don't think we'll see any new transforming characters since we have quite enough). Given the amount of work that goes into a character and Sakurai's statement of "Multiplication, not addition", I simply do not see it as possible that we'll get any more than this number, but any less would be a disappointment. Of course, I personally also think there will be between 3 to 5 veterans cut. Some people here will crap their panties at the mere thought of that, but I think Sakurai and friends know that newcomers sell Smash games. If we wanted to play Brawl, we'd play Brawl - I want to see newcomers, even if that comes at the expense of a few veterans (as long as he picks the right veterans to cut of course
).So yeah... some people want 50 characters with only 1 or maybe 2 characters cut, but the realist in me says 45 with at least 3 cuts. I'd love to be proven wrong of course, but that's how I see it.

your point is that Fire Emblem isnt as relevant as Xenoblade is now and that more people would rather have Shulk over any Fire Emblem character. so you tried to hammer home a point that all because Fire Emblem had a game recently that doesn't mean they are still relevant. even though in reality based on Fire emblem Awakening alone had far greater success than Xenoblade had and since Fire Emblem already had an established fanbase as well as more games on the way it is actually far more relevant in every conceivable way. so you tried compared Megaman to a character who had no chance in hell to begin with but had a game more recent than Megaman had claiming that if recency mattered that he should have gotten in over Megaman.You're missing my major point, though...
