Weather Sakurai gives him different moves or not is up to him.

It's not like it eats up development time if he doesn't have his own moves. What is wrong with that? Some developers like to give a little polish to their games. It's not going to eat up time.


It's not as pointless as the Mewtwo transformation.

If Dry Bowser didn't have his own original moves and Newtwo did, then yeah, it would be kinda pointless. It'd be more of an ascetic thing than an actual transformation.

How does he light on fire? It sounds like to me he lights himself on fire, unless like a random fireball comes out of nowhere. And since Dry Boswer is undead, wouldn't he be committing suicide?

If he does not have any special properties then what's the point of the transformation? If he does, he still has to programmed, like the clones had to be programmed. And he would also still need to be animated so that would take a time as well.

Well the overalls was just as on outfit on the select screen. If that's what you're suggesting, then I am all for it. I'll add it to my list of alternate costumes. I don't think I have a bowser outfit yet. But transforming him mid battle would take more programming than giving Wario an alternate outfit.

I still want to know how he lights on fire though. That really concerns me. Smash Bros is a family game.

If it's just your desire, then sure cool idea, we all have weird ideas we'd like to see in the game.

If you are thinking that this has a high probability of happening, then... uhm, sorry to burst your bubble but, as others have said: Dry Bowser could make it in as an alt AT MOST.

I'm not going to get into this, you're really not one to call the shot of him being unlikely. It's a very decent if not certain prediction. Not to mention if Dry Bowser as an ALT. is so believable, WHY does it matter HOW you access this different look?

Again I'm not gonna get into closed minded doubts about a clearly likely character transformation. I've given you the reasons why it works. There is nothing else to discuss.

The flashing let you know if the Wario Waft was fully charged. If not for that, you'd have to keep pausing and zooming in to check for Wario's bulging belly.

Dry Bowser isn't as popular and relevant as you think he is, but then again, Sheik was only in one Zelda game (planned for TP at the drawing board) and made it in as a transformation. (although I think that was due to heavy requests)

The point isn't that he'd be impossible to make, the point is that as most of us realize, he's such a minor entity that he's not deserving of having the dev team spend time and resources on creating him as a"Post-Giga-Bowser-Special-Character"

If Genesect play the role of villain in the next Pokemon movie against Mewtwo, doesn't that make it likely as well? Not as likely, but definitely viable. If Mewtwo has gone anti-hero on us, then the best solution would be to put a villain so the Pokemon games can fulfill the archetype model: hero, side hero, opposite gender hero, and villain. Pikachu, Mewtwo (awakened form), Jigglypuff, and Genesect. I would endorse that as the pokemon reps for Smash 4.

How about Dry Bowser as an alternate costume for Bowser?

We've seen them implemented in brawl (Wario), sakurai mentioned he wanted a one player experience reward that's more...welll rewarding than "cut scenes" you can just look up online, and Alternate costumes fill that role nicely.

Here's a roster with alt costumes (In Green) that has dry bowser. The way I see it, alt costumes could be semi-clones and should change the name of the character when appropriate (villager/pokemon trainer/wario etc... are fine keeping the same name as either version, dixie/dr. mario/Lucina/dry bowser etc... should be given the name change when selected). Lucas would stay the same or close to the same as his "semi clone" self in brawl. Black Shadow could play like Ganondorf and thus Ganondorf can have a moveset change more fitting for him. Lucina is what I really like about alt costumes as it allows awakening to get a rep without simply "adding the current lord" to the roster every time a smash game comes out. Also this leaves room for Roy to get back on the roster. This roster is mostly taking into account the Japanese most requested list and adding "the leaked" characters and cutting lucario (due to relevance sadly) and Toon Link (Due to the train stage, I know it's a different Link but still) and of course adding alternate costumes ( some of which are characters that are highly requested in Japan).

I've tried a few other versions mostly cutting Takamaru or Ghirahim or both adding Toon Link back in along with Toon Zelda/Tetra/Sheik whatever. I also have a funny feeling about Balloon Fighter as our retro rep getting in over Takamaru, though I know most people don't feel the same so I choose Takamaru over him here. I'm not sure if we'll actually get All 3 of these guys: K Rool, Ridely, and Palutena, really matters how Sakurai feels about each of them this time since each has something going against them but strong fan support: K Rool - not as relevant these days (plus Dixies in with alt costumes on this roster) Ridley - Too Big (not how I feel but Sakurai may still feel that way) Palutena - in Pits final Smash and Sakurai's modesty about his own series may keep her off. If we don't get all three I still expect we'll see one or two and if we have open spots I'd assume Isaac, Shulk, Saki, Bowser Jr., Waluigi, Starfy OR Toon Link/Lucario coming back in to an open spot and again possibly Toon Zelda... However I optimistically hope we get all 3 of those highly requested Newcomers instead...for the sake of popularity and a good overall roster.

Long story short I'm still tweeking this "alt costumes" idea roster. Starving for new info to help make some of these choices more definitive

There's plenty of places you can find arrogant people arguing with each other over the internet. Most people here are reasonable and fair unlike the countless other forums about Smash Bros. Please don't take away that type of quality discussion from me. Noah attention whores the thread with his "predictions" and you know it as well as I do.

By chat, I meant thread. We were discussing F-Zero characters at one point. We're now arguing 7 people to 1 over why Dry Bowser shouldn't be anything more than just an alternate costume, with the one insisting that he's right while everyone else here is a damned Smash-Nazi. I don't think I'm asking for the moon to be saying that we should have consistently better discussions if it only comes at the expense of banning the one individual claiming the thread as his own.

I like the idea of alternate costumes as a rewards system: Here's a list a came up with:

I think alternate costume rewards system would be a perfect way to reward player for their single player experience. It's much better than cutscenes.
List of costumes:
Mewtwo = Generation 1 form
Marth = SNES look
Link = SS Link
Mario = Dr. Mario
Toon Link = Outset Island Look
Mega Man = Complete Proto Man look
Villager = Female Villager
Ike = RD or PoR look (whichever isn't used in the game)
Lucas = Masked Man
Pokemon Trainer Red = Female Trainer Green of Leaf
Zelda = OOT Zelda and Sheik
Snake = Old Snake
Sonic = Shadow
Metroid = Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion outfit
Wii Fit Trainer: Wearing a track suit
Pit = classic look
meta knight = galacta knight
Kirby = even more colors!
Pokemon Trainer = female trainer
captain falcon = blood falcon
pit = dark pit
fox = classic fox with metal legs
falco = classic falco with metal legs

some of these costume will even change the character name and some of the voices.

I don't agree with Lucina being alternate costume because she does not really fight like Marth. Marth fights like her in Awakening, but that's because he uses her model as a base. It would be similar to Ganondorf and Captain and Falcon cloning. I think Roy had his chance in Melee and it's time for other lords to receive the spotlight.

The problem with Ridley isn't that he is too big. It's that he takes too long to develop according to Sakurai during Brawl.

KI might get a new rep due to its christening as a key franchise due to his appearance in the E3 trailer. I did not notice this but Pit bumped out Yoshi of the original 8, which says something. And Pit has a new Final Smash ready with the Great Sacred Treasure.

One question, if Lucas is deemed an alt. of Ness, why isn't Falco an alt. of Fox, but either way, I wouldn't like it being like this since I like having them have there own spots on roster really, if they have the time to develop all of these costumes in the game.

Lucas would stay the same or close to the same as his "semi clone" self in brawl. Black Shadow could play like Ganondorf and thus Ganondorf can have a moveset change more fitting for him. Lucina is what I really like about alt costumes as it allows awakening to get a rep without simply "adding the current lord" to the roster every time a smash game comes out. Also this leaves room for Roy to get back on the roster. This roster is mostly taking into account the Japanese most requested list and adding "the leaked" characters and cutting lucario (due to relevance sadly) and Toon Link (Due to the train stage, I know it's a different Link but still) and of course adding alternate costumes ( some of which are characters that are highly requested in Japan).

I've tried a few other versions mostly cutting Takamaru or Ghirahim or both adding Toon Link back in along with Toon Zelda/Tetra/Sheik whatever. I also have a funny feeling about Balloon Fighter as our retro rep getting in over Takamaru, though I know most people don't feel the same so I choose Takamaru over him here. I'm not sure if we'll actually get All 3 of these guys: K Rool, Ridely, and Palutena, really matters how Sakurai feels about each of them this time since each has something going against them but strong fan support: K Rool - not as relevant these days (plus Dixies in with alt costumes on this roster) Ridley - Too Big (not how I feel but Sakurai may still feel that way) Palutena - in Pits final Smash and Sakurai's modesty about his own series may keep her off. If we don't get all three I still expect we'll see one or two and if we have open spots I'd assume Isaac, Shulk, Saki, Bowser Jr., Waluigi, Starfy OR Toon Link/Lucario coming back in to an open spot and again possibly Toon Zelda... However I optimistically hope we get all 3 of those highly requested Newcomers instead...for the sake of popularity and a good overall roster.

Long story short I'm still tweeking this "alt costumes" idea roster. Starving for new info to help make some of these choices more definitive

How about Dry Bowser as an alternate costume for Bowser?

We've seen them implemented in brawl (Wario), sakurai mentioned he wanted a one player experience reward that's more...welll rewarding than "cut scenes" you can just look up online, and Alternate costumes fill that role nicely.

Here's a roster with alt costumes (In Green) that has dry bowser. The way I see it, alt costumes could be semi-clones and should change the name of the character when appropriate (villager/pokemon trainer/wario etc... are fine keeping the same name as either version, dixie/dr. mario/Lucina/dry bowser etc... should be given the name change when selected). I like this roster. (Probably because it's my ideal roster)

EDIT: My only problems are things like Lucas being an alt.

I'd like Arthur as a character if they put in music tracks, like The Sea of Despair and Baron Rankle's Tower.
It's just that he's already in Ultimate MVC3, so it'd seem weird to me. But of course, Snake previously starred in a fighting game with similar physics to Smash back in 2003...

One question, if Lucas is deemed an alt. of Ness, why isn't Falco an alt. of Fox, but either way, I wouldn't like it being like this since I like having them have there own spots on roster really, if they have the time to develop all of these costumes in the game.

Just trying to make space and Falco has been in more games then Lucas and I believe will continue to "evolve" his moveset further from being semi-clone to very different, ALSO I see falco's design being different then foxes design "shape" wise...might screw with hitboxes and stuff... these would literally be the same wireframe/polygon with a new skin over it along with some new animations aka attacks (making them only semi-clones) possibly tweaking their speed/power etc... and new voice clips.

It's all just a guess but I feel like that's the best we can hope for that will take less time than designing brand new characters and I'd much rather have some more characters getting into the game in this way than some cut scenes. I limited myself to ten alt costumes just to be "reasonable" but there are tons of other ones you could have.

Not going to hold my breathe for DLC but this is the sort of thing DLC could reasonably be, costumes that are "semi-clones" using the same basic polygon character drawing over it and revamping a few things about it.

I found this article about Wii Party from Iwata asks, and it brought up something really interesting about Miis.

Of course, this could mean anything. Miis have been thrown in lava in Mario Kart, flung into volcanos in Wii Party, and have been eaten by fish in Nintendo Land. But I do have to wonder. Could Mii usage rules keep Mii out of Smash? Is a T-rated fighting game too violent that it causes a violation of the Mii rules?

and of course, I had to find this right when I started opening up to the idea. >_>
