I think the premise of pseudo clone in this context could be easily summed up by the fact that a one sentence summary of one character could be used for the other.

"He's a spiky haired fire emblem protagonist who's sword also does fire damage. He has a counter and his neutral b is a charge up move that hurts him if he holds it too long."

I could be talking about either character, and you don't know who currently. Another couple examples.

"A young, stripped-shirt wearing boy who uses the power of his mind to fight. Most of his specials are borrowed from other games, and his up b can be hard to use as a jump. His specials are all projectiles except for down b, which absorbs projectiles."

"A hugely popular bipedal pokemon who featured in movies and could speak. He's somewhat floaty and many of his attacks have a strange aura about them. His up special allows him to transport to another nearby location nigh-instantaneously and his neutral special is a charged sphere that when fired has an awkwardly slow projectile that goes up and down slightly."

I hope these examples helped. It's worth noting that when you go vague enough you can make anyone sound like a clone character, so a good litmus test is how many characters can be matched under the description. The above are fairly unique, but this example;

"A protagonist who is shorter than his love interest in most representations, this character has a projectile for their neutral b."

This should, by my estimate, apply to approximately five characters on Brawl's roster. Mario, Luigi, Link, Pit, and I'm reasonably sure Adam Malkovitch is taller than Samus, so Samus as well. If you think Kumatora is a love interest for Lucas (I've never played Mother 3 so I have no idea) he's another candidate for this set. It's worth noting that in this case any point of detail beyond this separates them out, and this is much less information that the other examples. It's worth noting that you could only consider pseudo-clones clones of the character if you actually know nothing about them; the reason people think of pseudo cloned characters as clones at all is because when we first saw Brawl we knew nothing of those characters, so our natural detector went off. For example, my girlfriend doesn't really play this game much, but to her Lucario replaced Mewtwo, and were essentially the same. No amount of pointing out the differences gets her out of that mindset as well.

JamesDNaux, is this what you were thinking?

Wait, so if Ike is a psuedo clone of Roy because fire sword attacks...does that make Pokemon Trainer a psuedo clone of Bowser because of Charizard's fire breath?

And if Roy is a clone of Marth, does that make Ike a psuedo clone of Marth since he's a psuedo clone of Roy, or is he a psuedo clone of Marth due to being blue haired swordsmen that wear fetching capes?

It's more about perception that strict factual information. People seriously thought Ike was going to be a Roy clone when he first was revealed and thematically they fill a similar niche. Part of the issue here is that if you black out the character in still images you could probably be forgiven for mistaking one for the other. Charizard and Bowser have different body types after all, but Roy and Ike do not.

Honestly? I would argue that under the definition provided, Ike is a pseudo clone of Marth. A blue haired swordsman from fire emblem that wears a cape, has a counter, a charge special, a side b that moves them forward while slashing, and they have large sweeping forward and down smashes.

It's kind of a dumb system in my opinion and I'm not trying to validate it, I'm merely trying to understand it as right now just claiming two characters as pseudo clones is a bit nebulous.

Yep, I'm going to make a joke roster filled entirely of Nintendo rhinos. So far I got Rambi, Rhydon, and Renzor and I'm considering Dodongos, since they're the closet thing to rhinos Zelda's got that I know of.

Bow down to my superior cephalopod roster!

(I know a jellyfish is a cnidarian, but this is a Jellopus!11!!!)

Also I would do anything for this as a DLC pack.

Rhinos where always my favorite animals actually. And to be honest, DKC had a major major advantage over Mario games for me back in the day because you could ride Rambi in them. Thus making gaming instantly 1.000 x more awesome as a 4~5 year old. I liked all animals, mind you, but rhinos where my favorite. Monkeys quickly becoming second after DKC.

Impa: No matter what people say, still the most likely Zelda character after Ganondorf.

Honestly I want Rambi to be Dixie's FS. Or maybe DK's if they decide to change his. Far too good a FS idea to not be used.

I would really enjoy Impa's presence in this game and I consider her one of the most likely Zelda newcomers. That being said I don't view Zelda getting a newcomer likely. xP

What will happen if the Phantom indeed is Zelda's Down B, and Sheik is gone though?

Then Impa's chances are greatly improved, but I view that as highly unlikely.
And why would it be unlikely? So far, Zelda has 2 new poses, and the Phantom hasn't appeared yet in any other pic.

She does the same pose with the Phantom as another picture without the Phantom.

She also still has Din's Fire, and Nayru's Love I'm pretty sure.

The concept that Sakurai would replace a two time veteran with one move is a little stupid, if I say so myself. I don't think Sheik would be cut.

Why should Zelda have a completely different moveset if Sheik would be removed? Did Mario get a totally new special moveset because he got FLUDD in Brawl?

That's not the point. The point is that I find it illogical for Sakurai to remove Sheik for one move.

For Specials, we have seen Farore's Wind, and the startup picture for Din's Fire. So, that would make a lot of sense that Nayru's Love is back, as it'd be stupid not to have all three of the spells. So, we generally have 3/4 returning specials.

The Phantom is still overall difficult to understand. I don't know if it's an assist trophy or a new move. They can both work, but I just find it unlikely Sheik would be gone. I'm not open to having Sheik gone, but if she does in favor of the phantom, then I will grudgingly accept.

I think if Sheik is gone Impa or Ghirahim will be a spiritual successor to the moveset. I find this to be incredibly unlikely as I find removing Sheik unlikely to begin with but I cannot see them ditching an entire popular moveset.

I think the phantom is an AT, I have a hard time seeing Zelda using it normally.

It wouldn't be a matter of removing Sheik and then trying to fill her moveset, Sakurai wouldn't replace her unless he already knew who he wanted to take over and he thought adding that character would be worth axing a two-time veteran, and Impa really is the only choice that would make at least some sense, so... it's either going to be Sheik or Impa getting that moveset (probably Sheik), no one else.
