so if Mewtwo gets in Smash 4 would you guys want a female voice or a male one
Doesn't really matter to me, Mewtwo is Mewtwo and I'd play as it regardless of voice. But if I had to choose, I'd say Male only if they can get the voice actor from the first movie to play the english voice...if not, eh, I'd go with Female.

.
Any my thoughts on Ridley?
I have stated numerous times that Sakurai is looking for very unique charcters, but just like Dedede and Meta Knight were exceptions to the way he was picking recent characters for Brawl, Ridley could be an exemption to SSB4's most unique rule.
Who says Ridley can't be a really unique character? :p

I've always thought that most legendary Pokemons are classified as genderless is because either they're too rare and powerful to find one, get close enough to examine it and get out in one piece, to verify their true gender. That and to prevent you from having an armada of seventy four Lugias

The Mewtwo, which is the one that was playable in Melee, has a male voice. There is only one Mewtwo, and thus, the one Mewtwo has a male voice.

The "female" Mewtwo is from the anime, and, as such, is non-canon. We don't know if Unknown Gender Pokemon have different voices because the only canon Unknown Gender Pokemon we've heard speak is Mewtwo. Of course, if you're talking anime canon, then sure, why not, because it's the anime and it does whatever the **** it wants.
Um... isn't male voice Mewtwo from the anime, and, as such, non-canon?

The Pokemon in Super Smash Bros. are from the games, rather than the anime, because Sakurai has stated that a character has to be grounded in a game to appear in Smash. Male-voiced Mewtwo has appeared in Smash, and, as such, is THE Mewtwo, the one created on Cinnabar Island by scientists that may or may not have worked for Team Rocket, in the game canon.

So, if there weren't restrictions on the Pokemon games, the Mewtwo in the games would have a male voice, because he is the one that appeared in Smash Bros. If he appears again in Smash 4, it would have to be the same Mewtwo, because, as I've said, there is only one. Unless Sakurai were to retcon it, it would have the same voice.

The Voice actor of Mewtwo in Melee, Masachika Ichimura, was the Japanese VA for Mewtwo in the first Pokemon Movie...which is part of the anime...so wouldn't that mean that his only VA in Smash Bros is from a non-canon appearance?

That logic is fallacious, that doesn't even make any sense. So non-canon Mewtwo (male-voice) becomes canon Mewtwo because he appears in a non-canon video-game? In that case, why didn't you just skip the middle-man and assert that male-voice Mewtwo is canon as he is the most prevalent and iconic Mewtwo. It would have been a more rational proclamation. I mean Sakurai can't magically turn something that isn't canon into canon just because he states that the character has to be grounded into a game to appear in Smash. Like it or not, THE Mewtwo isn't any more canon than Femtwo.

Female for the sake of trolling everyone and the humor that it has. :awesome:
This.

In "canon", no Mewtwo ever spoke.
Nor did any Lucario.

Don't argue "canon" if you can't do it right.

Idiots.

Almost anyone can be made unique if you get creative enough.
Exactly, which is exactly why all my selected newcomers are meant to bring something really new to the table.

K.Rool: Unique mobile heavyweight character
Tetra: Acrobatic Pirate style
Ridley: Highly tuned aerial abilities
Palutena: Strong area control/trapping
Mewtwo: Powerful psychic heavyweight with already unique feel
Robin: Stance Change
Takamaru: Combo-heavy Katana user
Little Mac: Counter-based character
Shulk: Level-up character
Pac-Man: Can be made to do almost anything.

I didn't say he can't be unique.
I said he is not one of the MOST unique characters.

Hmm.....
I wonder what irrelevant character thread I can take over next, to expand my ever growing empire.

Yeah, they didn't.
Neither did a Pikachu (though his cry was recently changed to his "PIKA!") or Jigglypuff.

They spoke in the anime, just like Mewtwo and Lucario.

When I say unique, I mean pretty different in movesets and play style than other characters.
For example, a Zelda newcomer:
Tingle would be unique, since h can use Balloons, Potions, and other typical shop items from the Zelda series.
While Toon Zelda (not Tetra, just Toon Zelda) would not be very unique, as her moveset would be pretty similar to that of Zelda's, if not a clone.

Doesn't mean it will make sense. And trust me, some Smash fans have a ****ed up definition of unique.
Not me.

Given how Smash hardly cares about canon (Ness, Lucas, and Capt. Falcon are good examples), I don't understand why this is even an argument to begin with.

Just say that you want the male voice for Mewtwo because it is badass/nostalgic/sounds better, and leave it at that. :p

Precisely. Though Yellow featured a special Pikachu that said its name (based off the anime, but still).

What I want is beyond the limits of possibility.
.....I want Phillip Bartlett risen from the grave to voice Mewtwo just as he did in the first movie.

well we don't know what Sakurai is thinking when making new characters for all we know he would make Tingle a clone of Link
my point being that assuming a character wouldn't get a unique playstyle because we think so doesn't mean diddly

Just because something is unique doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid.
I never said that.
I just used Toon Zelda as an example because she is a commonly wanted Zelda newcomer, and most Zelda newcomer possibilities are unique, expect for Toon Zelda who would most likely be a clone. And since Sakurai wanted unique movesets, and a clone is the exact opposite of unique, Toon Zelda has low chances.

Not me.
We need more voice actors to play their original roles for crys in Pokemon Z.

Actually, I made a statement many times that Sakurai has a certain mindset when choosing newcomers for each game. I'll repeat it again just so you can hear. Though he does break this rule a few times, but only to represent series that are under represented, and to add the Retro and WTF Retro.

In Smash 64, his aim was to get the main characters of the main Nintendo series, and an extra character for the two most successful Nintendo franchises, this Luigi and Jigglypuff.

In Melee, he wanted to finish off adding the side but still main characters in the games, whether they be clones or not. Thus we have Peach, Bowser, Falco, Zelda, etc..
He also made the exception of Game and Watch and Ice Climbers as the retro characters.

In Brawl it was mainly about recency.
Thus Lucas, Lucario, Ike, Toon Link, etc... He also made the exemption of Meta Knight and Dedede to add long awaited newcomers for the Kirby series. And just like Melee, he added a retro (Pit, who isn't retro know, but was back then) and a WTF retro, (ROB).

And with the 4 newcomers we have seen so far for SSB4, they all seem to differ from already existing veterans, and the other newcomers.
Villager attacks in a play style, where he bumbles around and "accidentally" fights.
Wii Fit Trainer uses exercises and ups poses to fight.
Mega Man uses the power ups from the robot masters, and basically uses different elements, which can have different status effects, (he can burn, confuse, electric, etc.)
And RosaLuma has the whole Luma gimmick which we don't even know how it will be implemented.

Yeah, I don't believe Sakurai would waste a slot on Toon Zelda just for Tetra.
Personally, I would be fine with any Zelda newcomer, as long as it is not a stand-alone Toon Zelda.
I could understand if they have Tetra and throw in Toon Zelda as a transformation because "why the hell" not, but Toon Zelda by herself just sickens me.

That doesn't necessarily mean he has an objective mind-set, even if he did, the exceptions already ruin this arbitrary rule. I mean this is largely a hind-sight based test, we can't make a feasible prediction as we must wait and see who all of the newcomers (and maybe cuts) are.

It would be erroneous to assert that we are all going to get newcomers that greatly differ from existing veterans/other newcomers until we actually see the changes and choices that he implements.

Don't worry, I know it is not fact.
It is just a backed up assumption.
Depending on who the next newcomer is, I will believe my theory even more.
Though I should also clarify that there are a few exceptions that could possibly happen.

Ridley - because there is isn't a lot that is immediately stands out about him, but Metroid deserves a newcomer, like Kirby's position in Brawl.

Toon Zelda - I already stated my stance on her, and I hate her.

Chrom - because Awakening, and blue haired sworsman. Though in uniqueness, I believe Robin is a better Awakening choice.

Palutena - same like Ridley, not a lot stands out and would be similar to Zelda. But with KI's revival, it can use a newcomer.

I don't understand, if you understand why he feels as if Chrom wouldn't be unique... why do you not agree with Palutena. It is the same principle. People fear that Chrom will somehow play like Marth (or just in general, a generic swordsman) in the same way that some are afraid that Palutena would play like Zelda (or just in general, a generic magic-user). Someone brought it up earlier, EVERY newcomer has potential. No one has to be bland and generic. Palutena and Chrom, if in the game, will not play boring.

The exceptions don't break this rule.
That's is why they are specific exceptions.
The retro tradition we have seen so far, and underrepresented series.
It is not far off. Sakurai has shown to be wanting characters that are unique. And we have seen that with all 4 newcomers we have seen. So I will say that thesis is likely until proven incorrect.

I haven't played any Metroid games beside a little bit of Super and Prime 1. So excuse me if my Ridley knowledge is off, but from what I know, he can fly, breath fire, and scratch with his claws or tail.
Which has been done by Bowser, except the flying.
FLYING BOWSER FOR SMASH!!!!

As I just said with Morbid,, I don't know much about Ridley. But for Palutena, she is a magic using Goddess, so it just seems like Zelda.

Ganon would be really cool! Though I would prefer if he was a ZSS-like transformation for Ganondorf.
