Martth is a given.

Chrom stands a pretty dang good chance of getting in. There is also a chance he will get in and show off the Pair Up feature of FEA and becoem Chrom + Robin or Chrom + Lucina.

Ike could honestly go either way tbh, he could get replaced by Chrom or he could stay.

Roy is allot less likely to me. I don't see characters cut from Melee coming back. With the expetion of Mewtwo, but only in his new form to represent the new Gen for I don't see him coming back in his original form.

Pair-up like Diddy Dixie?
That's not a good idea, gameplay wise that would be hard to learn.
It's pretty crucial to Awakening so it would be a great way to acknowledge it and keep fans of both lords happy. It would basically be a two form transformation character. I think more people would be thin king about it as a possibility if there werent those 3DS limitations comments by Sakurai.

That would be difficult to do if only one of the lords made it in. But both lords making it in isnt completely impossible I guess. Send in the clones!

You guys make me sick. I can't believe that I have to requote this **** just to get some form of feedback. -_-

Here's a realistic and average sized roster of 45 characters because of the issues with the 3DS. I decided to use a single image for both Samus and Zelda just to leave things ambiguous. 3 characters are cut, which are Lucario, Snake, and Toon Link (It was rather hard decide which secondary Link should be in). Out of the cut Melee characters. Mewtwo is the most worthy of being a returnee and being the only Pokemon character that should be added. Krystal's there because there a possibility we might have a new Star Fox game in the near future. Pac is there because we all know Namco wouldn't miss out on a chance of advertising not only the show, but the new game for this chump. Not to mention other Namco reps are nowhere near as good (Lloyd's game will only be remade on Sony's console, Klonoa is a shadow of his former self, ect.). I think we'll only wind up with one retro and just 3 new series reps (including Lil Mac) this time around. Riddles is there because he's more important than any other existing Metroid rep (inb4 he's too big). Also, figured that 4 DK reps would be too much and unrealistic.

I feel like there is at least one more surprise character out there no one is really expecting. Perhaps from LoZ or Mario series or a classic character.

I don't see Roy coming back unless it is DLC. I think we will get a unique FE lord if we get a third one, more than likely a mage character. I actually think that Lucario will return.

I think you are a wonderful person, and I wish you the best in life.

Takamaru, Ike & Chrom, and 4 star fox reps seems unrealistic.

@ROB Like the four Starfox reps, and I think we will get the same for DK series. All good and safe choices, but I think we will get a Generation V pokemon rep along with Mewtwo new.
Bowser Jr wouldnt be my pick but hes one of the most reasonable for a new mario rep. Like classic link being in there. I think we will get at least one cut without a clear replacement, although I guess you got that with Lucario.

we arent talking about adding a new Ice Climber character tho... plus as a retro choice they run on a different set of rules

Who made up that rule? That is a rule defined by people on here and not grounded in reality. That should have seem clear at E3 this year.

Ugh ugh ugh. two characters in one as in like Ice Climbers, but with the abbility to switch inbetween the unit you are controlling. In the new Fire Emblem game it introduced the game mechanic called Pair Up which allowed 2 units to become one and was a very integeral part of the game for oh so many reasons, which makes it a possibility that if the new FEA game gets repped, which is quite likely, that it might also promote the Pair Up feature the game introduced ny having Chrom + Lucian or Robin in one slot and work like the ICs do but with the abillity to switch during battle which one is in the lead while the support one uses attacks that support the attacks you use. e_e If people would jsut play the game they would understand this.

@ ROB - The only problem I really have with your list is that you have both Little Mac and Pac-Man on there but not Mii. Other then that I have no qualms about it.

The concept of a retro character is something that Sakurai has talked about. It's not a rule because it's fairly logical. Retro characters are characters added from franchises that are retro because they haven't seen a release in recent times (usually NES but can include SNES, but Nintendo hasnt done a SNES retro add). The two sequels each featured at least one retro character. Ice Climbers and Pit. And technically, if you don't count them as WTF, both Mr. Game and Watch and ROB are retro characters.

How do you define what is Retro? Is N64 retro? Is Gamecube (in that case Krystal is Retro)?

When does a character become retro? Like I said before, there is no clear defined rule.

Based on the feedback so far, I'll make a few changes to it. Especially reconsidering the Star Fox repping and adding Shulk. As long as it's nowhere near 50.

Well in gaming there is a clearly defined concept retro, and Smash follows that same formula. Anything from the 8 bit (NES) and now 16 bit (SNES, and early GB) is considered retro in gaming. The modern gaming begins with the playstation (32 bit), so anything past that point is not usually considered retro. I believe this is due to the advent of 3D graphics. However, retro more exclusively applies to the NES due to its age.

I think we are beginning to consider N64 and PS retro, but it's nowhere near as agreed upon yet for some reason.

Alrighty! Just givin my two cents. I love the roster other than that one little nitpick. I just feel StarFox is fine with who they have now.

So 4 reps for a revived, popular franchise like DK is more unlikely than 4 reps for StarFox (which, by the way, is DEAD)? Other than that one problem I have with it, I llike the roster.
A series being dead doesn't matter at all. If it did, we wouldn't have any retros or any Mother characters in the first place. Either way, with Star Fox having Star Fox 64 3DS on the 3DS and fans clamoring for another title in the series, it's far from dead.

He... He literally just said what you were explaining with less words. The Pair-Up system in Awakening would transition to being exactly like the Pair-Up system in the old DKC series.

People understand it, no need to think we don't. I'm neutral on the whole idea of more pair-ups, but I'm just worried that we may not get another duo at all.
"Though series creator and producer Masahiro Sakurai would not elaborate specifics as to which version is farther along, he mentioned that the two versions of the next Smash Bros. installment might find themselves completed at different dates, particularly with the 3DS facing some challenges in terms of how to accommodate characters that incorporate more than one fighter, such as the Ice Climbers."

That would take away of what makes Ice Climbers unique on their own.
Kinda, but not fully. ICs you can't switch between which one is in control and when the one being controlled does a action the other one does exactly what the controlled one does. The idea of the Pair Up featur is to be able to switch between the lead character and the back-up character being more of a support unit and not doing the same attacks as you, as in their attacks will come after yours and will always compliment your moves but they will never be exactly the same as yours. Same principal but exucted differently enough to make both feel unique. Besides ICs are samll and wield wooden hammers while Chrom is taller and wields a sword along with Lucina while Robin wields a sword and magic so it's not like they will be clones or anything. lol

I agree wholeheartedly. I might have exaggerated when I said StarFox is dead, but I basically meant that because the franchise has been treated so poorly, I believe it shouldn't receive 4 characters. We haven't had a new StarFox game since the GameCube, I believe (not counting the 3D remake).

I never played DKC before, so sorry about that. And there is time for them to figure out the limitations of the 3DS, it is even likely the 3DS game will get delayed even for them trying to figure it out.

Star Fox reps are a safer bet because they are easier to make. I think both series are worth of having four reps, but it's about the individual characters that make up the series. Dixie is easier because you can use Diddy as base (not saying she should be a clone). King K. Rool is much bigger character add. I'm not to familiar with the series, but from his appearances he's not the same level of reoccurring boss as Bowser and Ganon (who Ganondorf represents). Or even Wolf or King Dedede, who both arent so bad anymore in the core series of the franchises.

Starfox Command.

A good franchise never dies. It just remains dormant until a new gameplay element or premise gives the creators incentive to create a new. Or wait until the franchise become old and therefore cool (trends are cyclical).
