I honestly don't really see Chrom as being the character Sakurai would choose.

I think he might choose him, hence he wants to do original characters, if they run out of time though, they could add Roy.
Like if they can't add K. Rool for some reason like time, Dixie Kong is a filler.

I actually use Ivysaur WAY more, I just think it would be rational to cut PKMN Trainer in favor of Charizard. Perhaps we might get the main antagonist after that happens (just kidding, if Jigglypuff beat Meowth, any Pokemon will).

Despite me being a Roy supporter, I think it's a little to early to count out Chrom. Out of all the possible choices (Chrom, Roy, Robin, Lucina, Lyn etc) Chrom is most likely although Marth advertising Awakening (Except in Japan) is pretty questionable and that was Chrom's biggest reason to get into the game.

Simply not being very iconic and I believe lowly requested. Besides it just seems like a really weird choice out of all the Fire Emblem characters you can pick. Not because of his move potential, but just simply who he/she is. I see it as more of a mode in the game than a really significant character from the series.

The Tactician not being the icon of Awakening, IMO, isn't a strong enough basis to say it's not a strong contender. After all, Sakurai said he's looking at what the characters he adds bring (http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/17/44...director-masahiro-sakurai-character-selection), which would be an advantage it has over Chrom and possibly even Roy. The Tactician serves the role of the relevant character as well as bringing magic to the FE representation. Also, I, personally, consider the Tactician both more important to the story overall, and more memorable of a character.

I think the same. I think Sakurai only goes out of his way to give a unique move set to essential characters like Fox, C. Falcon, ROB. I think when Sakurai looks at Chrom he's not gonna think very long before deciding he is clone material which would likely leave him in the same pile he left Leif in (lol I made a pun). Usually when someone can be a clone, Sakurai makes them one rather than working his ass off to make them unique because it fits them that way. Sakurai just doesn't seem like the guy who will try very hard to make Chrom unique before he dismisses him considering he easily overlooks the potential of characters which he did in the past with characters like Leif, Villager, Wario, Starfy etc.

Even if Chrom has potential, I still think Sakurai will overlook it and want to add someone else.

Technically Chrom, not Roy. Roy has already appeared and proved to be a crappy knock off of Marth. With Chrom or Lucina, I don't expecting anything at all coming from either of them and the only reason to their presence is to cater to those ****heads that just got into Fire Emblem from Fire Emblem: Awakening. That's literally it, fanservice with no substance whatsoever.

I honestly think Fire Emblem deserves another character WAY before we introduce a character like Isacc to Smash. Not to mention Roy's staggering popularity and Melee veteran status. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get a new Fire Emblem representative. I would; however, be surprised if we got Isacc instead. Shulk is reasonable enough, even then I have my doubts.

This sounds a lot like a "too many" swords argument.

You put such a strong burden on popularity. I've given several reasons on why I think the Tactician is the best choice. You've given me one on why you don't. That being said, let's sum up:

+ debatedly more important to the story than Chrom
+ more memorable as a character than Chrom
+ relevance
+ more interesting moveset potential
+ represents a concept not yet represented that's been used more than once in FE

- not as popular as the other main contenders

Is there something I've missed here? Do you not consider my "+"s things of even remote importance?
