so . . . did he just deconfirmed toad (or made his chances incredibaly unlikely) or am i just over thinking things, if not what a terrible day for toad fans

unlikely not necessarily deconfirmed. (note i am not a toad fan, i always hated that sucker for going "i'm the best" at MK64).

I find it silly that so many people are quick to assume that Toad has been disconfirmed simply due to Peach's B-Move. You do realize that Toad is a species, NOT a unique, individual character. I mean, I would honestly prefer that Toad not be playable, but there's still a possibility that he can appear as SM3DW's blue Toad.

You could say the same thing for characters like Pikachu, Yoshi, or Waddle Dee in regards to Toad's identity. Keep in mind that there will be an amount of character customization possibly on movesets implemented which will later be revealed to the public. Maybe Sakurai will have a Heel Face Turn and reveal Toad as a fully playable character later on!

Literally everybody knows that. You're not turning any heads by mentioning that he is part of a species. But the fact of the matter is, that it would've made the most sense to have the Blue Toad revealed today for SM3DW.

Maybe he isn't 100% out. But then he's 99% out.

The fact that we haven't been shown a single newcomer since Smash 4's reveal should also be a strong indicator that Toad still has a chance of getting in. I still don't get why people are expecting newcomers so early when we haven't even gotten the full veterans list shown.

At this point I wouldn't say a playable Toad is impossible, but honestly it's pretty close. Ofc his chances took their biggest hit back when Peach was revealed despite what some people want to hold onto, this is more like a restatement of probable fact tbh.

Though I still think we will get a fifth Mario character. Just not the most deserving candidate.

I'm expecting we're going to get a load of newcomers by E3 2014, seeing as the current paradigm with Sakurai is veterans. Likely in the form of a trailer. Also, a Dojo revamp wouldn't hurt.

Agreed. I think Brawl's design and update method are far superior. Right now it seems to be nothing but advertising the same old characters and an erroneous pic of the day. I want items, stages, game modes (extremely important factor in this sequel), music, etc.

Obviously Brawl's DOJO at its peak was more in depth. It was designed to be in depth, each post was (more or less) created to give new information. But Sakurai also called updating it "hell" and I wouldn't be surprised if it took away, even a little, from him focusing on actually developing the game. So if this time we get less information from it, or its more informal with less actual information, as long as it doesn't impede Sakurai's ability to actually make the game (which is clearly the priority) I don't mind if the level of information revealed through it is inferior to Brawl's (I don't think Sakurai's actually trying to match what he did last time anyway).

Plus keep in mind the entire first year the Brawl DOJO was up it was little more than a template restating the information from the reveal trailer. At least this one updates daily and has given intermittent character reveals months (instead of a year) after the unveil.

Eventually, closer to release, the site might change a bit to be more informative, but it's still a lot better than most websites for games potentially a year away from release.

I think a Dojo revamp would be awesome. Even if its just adding sections like items and stages. It could go further and put in game modes, alternate costumes, and other miscellaneous news about the game.

I can see another Nintendo Direct before the new year, showing off some games for 2014 and with that, Smash bros would have something. Could be a newcomer, could be 1 or 2 veterans, could be a major veteran return like Snake or Lucario, could be the long waited customization feature weve been hearing about. Although just one veteran seems the most likely, if the game is a year out from release (hopefully it remains that way) then Sakurai may be inclined to show a few more newcomers, not all, but a few more.

I can say this for sure; this time around, newcomers will be shown at special times, based on what happened at E3 and what hasnt happened again since

@N3ON: I just wonder how much a daily update would take out of his daily development time. He could only have so much information to bog him down until a new character, item, stage, etc. is revealed. I wouldn't even mind if he only covered a character's move daily and even just other parts of the game through screenshots. Guess it all boils down to what he and his team are currently troubleshooting and what is complete enough to show off. Sakurai's priorities are clearly where they should be for this game.

Anyway as for bluepikmin's question I already got most of the characters i wanted to see playable in brawl. So just give me palutena, lyn, shulk, takamaru, and maybe Krystal. But realistically i'd be fine with just palutena shulk and takamaru and getting lyn in PM. As long as those 3 are in i'm fine with whatever newcomers get in, even Dr. kawashima ...well maybe lol.

Forgot teh ridley, even tho I'm not a fan of him (dont really care) i'd like to see him get in so the madness will stop.

I would strongly caution against convincing yourself that Toad still has a strong chance of inclusion. You're only setting yourself up for disappointment.

Well the only newcomer I'd truly want to see is Professor Layton, uhm.... other nine characters that could be of interest to me would be (in no particular order)
K. Rool, Ridley, Palutena, Lip, Anna, Lyn, Tetra, Zoroark and Mallo I guess. There are a few more as well though, But Layton is really my primary interest in terms of newcomers. Not that I believe he stands that much of a chance anyway as much as I hate to admit it...

I'm just happy that Toon Link is back so I'm pretty much waiting to see if Mewtwo is back as well... :T

Yeah, he probably could be focusing on expanding or explaining a character's moveset once and a while through the pics (though he does give descriptions every once and a while), but so far this is the only Smash game to get consistent updates starting immediately after its reveal, and Sakurai has stated things shown might not be final, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was hesitant to show too much at this point, even though the game seems to be progressing pretty well (in addition to not wanting to get bogged down in DOJO hell).

I can understand why some people who expected Brawl-level DOJO updates to be disappointed, but after hearing him talk about what a pain it was, I'm just glad we're getting anything, let alone daily, let alone revealing new stages and characters, so I dunno, maybe it's just me, but considering all that's been revealed between July and now compared to Brawl and Melee's-post reveal, I don't think there's really much to complain about. I was half-expecting another year-long silence following the trailer, with maybe a veteran or two during the way.

Plus it just makes getting another eventual trailer all that sweet.
