They only one that I do not question the addition of is Takamaru.

Whether or not they are "deserving" is an irrelevant point, and whether or not they are unique enough depends on how he sees them.

EDIT: In other words, guessing "how many" of them is just as random as guessing how many Assist Trophies from Zelda we'll get.

If that's true, I might rekindle my interesst in Bandana Dee again. Cause seriously, spears in Smash would be awesome. Also, 4 Kirby characters means 4 DKC characters isn't unlikely either. :D

I dont think so, last gen had the return of many old series, so retro should be the minimum and wii/wU/ds/3ds should be the main focus this time.
Takamaru and Mach Rider are the only ones i can really see coming besides that.

I like the concept of returning classic Nintendo characters who haven't seen a game in...forever, like the inclusion of Ice Climbers and Pit, which is why I'd like to see that continued in SSB4.

I don't care how many there are, but if there's just one, Takamaru is my favorite.



...UNLESS one would classify Little Mac in this category. I would not because Punch-Out Wii.

Retro characters? It'll be one, per the usual, and I'm betting on it being Takamaru. After all, as people are quick to point out, Game & Watch had new installments close to the release of Melee (Gallery 3? 4? One of those.), and R.O.B. was in Mario Kart DS. That leaves us with the precedent of one retro per game...first the Ice Climbers, then Pit, and now a new guy who Sakurai is "the luckiest guy in the world" for being able to revive.

Since there are not much true popular necessary options left (K. Rool, Palutena, Ridley), the roster could add more "retro" characters.

So...I had two dreams about the SSB4 roster last night.

1.) The roster was...very strange, for the most part. "Blue" Toad and Paratroopa were newcomers.

Chrom was a newcomer, and for some reason, they wanted to keep a timeline consistency with Marth and Ike also being in the game, so the solution was that Marth and Ike were zombies.

After Pikachu, the other Pokemon characters were 4 Pokemon Trainers, each with different Pokemon, but they didn't make sense. One trainer, for instance, used Arbok, Kabutops, and Alakazam. And the Kabutops had a Mega Evolution. One of the trainers was Ike, who used Lucario, Blaziken, and himself.

2.) The roster included most of the newcomers I had hoped for, including Ridley, K. Rool, and Little Mac, as well as Skull Kid, with an announcement of a Majora's Mask remake for the 3DS.

I had a dream about the roster once,
Finn Jake where on the roster for some reason,
I'm not saying I'd like it, but it was on there.

On a more retro note,
I realized the "hardware" characters have not actually had a staring role in their own game.
ROB net had his own game and was just an accessory.
G and w could be argued, but he really just filled in for Mario most of the time.

Does this signal something about a hardware character for ssb4,
Disk un had his own game, so I'm not sure about him.
N64 logo on the other hand.....

I'm personally counting on this since Brawl was pretty much popular-character overkill. I want to see more retro/unrepresented stars rather than more popular side-characters. ñ_ñ

I am a huge Little Mac supporter, but he isn't retro in the same way that Pit isn't retro.
They got a revival, so they are now normal Nintendo series like the rest.
Little Mac is a classic, but so is Mario. And Link. And Samus. See what I'm saying?
I consider retros characters that haven't shined in a long time, and need a little boost like Smash to revive their seemingly dead franchise.

Well, actually, retro entails something reminiscent of the past. It doesn't arbitrary exclude anything that is being revived or revitalized. Not to mention concepts like a video game character should be traced to their original creation. The definition is not definitive, it would not be fallacious to assert that Little Mac is a retro. He is, he is a retro with an appearance on the Wii. Same with Pit, he is a retro based on his games. One game doesn't change the essence or status of said character (in my opinion) which would make the entire discussion subjective. However, if someone can show me a definition of retro that excludes future appearances of said character... I would be content.

It is more rational to say that Little Mac is retro. Call me crazy, but one spin-off game and an appearance in a Fighting game doesn't change what he truly is.

Looks pretty insignificant to me. Sorry, I'm just bothered by people talking about the inclusion of characters that were JUST revealed in games after months of development. It's just kind of pointless to speculate it.

Aside from that, I can't imagine Sakurai or the majority of Zelda/Smash fans wanting Ganon over Ganondorf. It's fine as a Final Smash and fits best that way.

Aside from that, I can't imagine Sakurai or the majority of Zelda/Smash fans wanting Ganon over Ganondorf. It's fine as a Final Smash and fits best that way.

Even though it should be implied, I was happy of the notion of Ganon returning mostly from the perspective that he IS Zelda's main villain...as a proof against anyone who thinks Ghirahim or other villains might replace Ganondorf (I've seen it, buddy).

What I would be more in favor of is if the design choice of Ganondorf's Final Smash changed to something more reminiscent of either this or Ocarina of Time as opposed to Twilight Princess.

Can you find me a link to a source on that? I looked up the definition of "retro" and entails no such thing. You simple apply retro to the notion of a character. Nowhere does it arbitrarily exclude that premise.

Edit- I looked up multiple definitions. Merriam-Webster's definition actually blatantly states that reviving a retro alludes to the notion that it is retro. It is a really simple concept to grasp.
