To be fair, Ganondorf is a thing. Sakurai might do it.
At the same time, Ganondorf was a case of "it had to be" given the situation on why he was a clone to begin with.
On the hypothetical on Rosalina's appearance in Smash, if she's saved as one of the lower-priority Newcomers like Toon Link and Wolf in Brawl, then yeah, she'd probably be copying Peach somehow. If not, she won't.

I dunno Golden. For Waluigi sure, but can anyone see Daisy as being the next big Mario rep?
At this present point in time, no. Seems Nintendo is all for milking the Rosalina cow at the moment.

Yes, potential would seem to allude to an arbitrary conclusion. I mean someone could see potential in characters like Diskun. So it doesn't really mean much. It helps, but it isn't absolute.
Exactly.

If you were to just flatten mario, you'd get a character that does not look like or move like paper mario. As professional developers, they wouldn't let that happen.
Paper mario's proportions are vastly different, and because of the nature of being a 2D character, his animations would also be very different.
Paper mario would be a hard character to simply clone. They would have to start from scratch. Given that circumstance, I see Paper Mario only being added towards the middle of development where they have the time to do it right.

just flatten Mario. I've already brought up that it would a case like Toon Link where the body proportions (mainly in the legs like T. Link) would be different. However, with that in mind, using a perma-2D filter with said proportions is essentially what Paper Mario would be.
-Animations being "different" =/= not a clone. Aside from that, the animations don't need to change by much except for things like how he runs and a minimal Toon Link altercation of some unfeasible kicking moves. Even as a 2D character, he has shown to move his own body in a 3D plane (and I'm not referring to Super Paper Mario's gimmick).
It would essentially be a series of sprites recreating the motions. Though probably through less frames to make the animations less "smooth" (but not to the extent of Mr. Game & Watch or Wario) to give it more of a "natural" Paper Mario feel.
I mean, I look at this, and I see just a few tweaks that need to be made (other than altering the moves to not
literally just be Mario's).

Oh, she's leagues ahead of Walunimportant. At least she appeared in a main game. If Walunimportant wants a spot, he's at least gonna need to be a star of a spin-off.
Oh yippe, more "main game" bull****.
Because apparently, only the platforming adventure games mean anything despite all of them being spin-offs of your everyday endless arcade "see how long you survive" game.
Which in turn is a spin-off of a game about a carpenter climbing to the top of a construction site to get to an ape.
This may come as a mind**** to you, but
all Mario games are spin-offs. Yeah, hard to grasp, ain't it?
And you're using Daisy's one-time Peach rip-off role as support?
That same role being from a handheld
spin-off of the "main" Super Mario Bros. franchise?
Face it; Daisy is
just as bad as Waluigi. Perhaps even worse because she was just "Peach Recolor" until she got retooled into a hot-blooded tomboy using
another character's design.
You see this girl? Her name is Azalea. She existed before Daisy was redesigned into what we see now.
At least Waluigi, while being uninspired in design, managed to be noticeably different right from the start.

FYI, Walunimportant can't have a move set unless you give him spin-off items. In other words, Daisy and Walunimportant have equal move set potential.
-Ability to swim through the air. (Various)
-Can spawn purple thorns both as a wall and a whip. (Strikers Charged)
-Can teleport in purple puffs of smoke. (Strikers Charged)
-Can conjure up tornadoes to imbed into objects. (Power Tennis, Hoops 3-on-3)
-Can box; but cheats by kicking and elbow strikes. (Game & Watch Gallery 4)
-Has his own brand of missiles dubbed "Whisker Missiles" that are shaped like his nose. (Arcade GP DX)
Those are things he
personally has for him for a moveset among other things.
But pray tell, can you point out to me exactly where Luigi's and Peach's "moveset potential" allowed them to have **** like the "Green Missile" and "Peach Bomber"?
I'd get into full detail about Peach herself if I wasn't holding up dinner right now.
