so let me get this straight it would seem that metroid so far has only had one rep other than samus, who was still samus, and when asked if they would want anyone other than samus, with 10+ enemies to choose from though only 3-4 of them are most viable and unique, the majority picks... samus. Dark Samus.

this thread i swear to god. on a serious note the only ones viable
Samus/Zero Suit. Ridley. Sylux. Weavel [you can't leave out the space pirates] Dark Samus/SA-X

Ridley Robot :troll:

That or Ridley's clone. Who coincidentally is the Ridley most people actually want.

You realize that they are similar in name only, right? Dark Samus is basically Metroid Prime in a can.

I haven't played very much Metroid, but would Meta Ridley be a Final Smash or are there not many differences? (or are they actually different people?) :p

meta is faster and stronger so essentially it'd be fair to have it set as a final smash.

aside from that, i'd be delighted at the aspect of a dark samus character in general. especially if it was a hybrid of the SA-X from fusion and made heavy use of a Phazon based moveset. I skipped on prime 2 but i also remember there being some light/dark beam mechanics from aether but i think other metroid abilities would be the t!ts like shine spark tackling, using parasites and metroids, and missile combinations. i loved those in the game.

Oh, so they are not similar in looks, suit, or the ability to fire lasers, bombs, and missiles and use the screw attack?

I guess Luigi and Mario don't share similarities because Luigi has a Vacuum. You can be different and still share similarities you know.

Samus can't fire lasers (not counting Brawl, of course), she shoots beams. And Dark Samus never once gets bombs, or the Screw Attack. Dark Samus gets modified weapons/armor (usually Phazon-infused) but aside from the surface details you so smugly pointed out, both have vastly different fighting (shooting I guess) styles. Whereas Samus gets your standard beams, missiles, Morph Ball/Screw Attack (which she has only for the final encounter in both games), Dark Samus gets (actual) lasers, a Scattershot variation of Samus' Power Beam (and nothing else), energy shields (which last I checked, Samus can't do), matter manipulation (including teleporting/de-materializing and reforming, making clones of herself, and of course levitation), and as stated, just manipulating pure phazon itself. As I said, she's Metroid Prime using Samus' suit as a flask. It actually copies her DNA, thus the appearance, but it's shown numerous times to be able to do the same thing to others, as well as change her physical appearance.

All I got out of this was that Luigi sucks and Mario doesn't.

So she still shoots lasers and missiles and looks like Samus. That sounds pretty similar to me. And aren't beams still beams of lasers or phazon or whatever you wanna call it? I mean this is like saying Link & Toon Link aren't similar. They may have more differences than they do similarities, but that doesn't mean they aren't similar. Saying the name is literally the only similarity shared is still a false statement that gets thrown around by a lot of users here.

You know last time I checked, Ness can't use PK Beam. Guess he and Ninten aren't similar at all.

Heck, she'd still probably be made into a clone if she got into Smash, not being able to originally use Screw Attacks or bombs won't prevent that. This is of course implying that Dark Samus in Smash would even be considered.

Sounds like you're abusing a technicality to try to prove your point. Dark Samus COULD be made a clone. That is true, but there is a lot more to pull from than those simple and less iconic abilities. If you're trying to say Dark Samus would most likely be a clone, you'll need a much stronger basis. After all, you can't predict what Sakurai would do. He could ignore the simple similarities, or abuse them. We have no way of knowing until we see the character in-game.

You know last time I checked, Ness can't use PK Beam. Guess he and Ninten aren't similar at all.
You use sarcasm against one character you don't support with a point that also would also apply to a character you DO support?

"Dreadful technique! You've confused rays with beams! D! Minus!"

In all seriousness, they aren't the same thing. Beams in Metroid are akin to bursts or "shots" of energy, hence the Charge Shot being her go-to Special in Smash. Lasers are continuous blasts of energy, which prior to Brawl, Samus has never used. Phazon simply refers to the energy source (think of it like bio-energy/radiation with a hint of electricity).

And if you're going to play that card, I suppose Peach and Mario should be similar since they can use all the same power-ups in the upcoming 3D World. Sarcasm be damned, Mother is notorious for giving PK powers left and right, notably where they don't normally go. Guess Sakurai just loves fitting square pegs into round holes.

It was hyperbole, I realize, but I was merely pointing out people draw the comparison basically because they share the name Samus as do the Links. Hell, Power Suit and Zero Suit Samus are vastly different, sharing next to no similarities, yet are one and the same.

This is of course implying that Dark Samus in Smash would even be considered.
Which I was neither implying she would (especially over Ridley) nor denying. Personally I'd love them both in, and have since Brawl days. Yet I'm still not even sold on Metroid getting any others reps in the first place (yes, including ZSS). Too much is uncertain.

I say Ridley should be the only Metroid newcomer for now. Metroid only has one game released after brawl, Metroid Other M, and it didn't leave enough of an impact to warrant 2 newcomers. Now, if a secret new Metroid game was announced to be in development, then I think Dark Samus would also be reasonable, but until that happens, just Ridley and Samus/ZZS.

hey guys, I have been thinking, because wii u and 3DS support DLC don't you think time constraints will become non-existent almost?

It depends on whether or not Sakurai actually wants DLC in Smash 4.

-----
If he and the other producer's don't, they're soulless.

I'm leaving that there not on the basis of the fans, but on the basis that it's even more probable that more people coming out from those games will have less jobs.

I disagree wholeheartedly. DLC capabilities is no excuse to leave a game unfinished. Stages and costumes are fine for later, but I say no to character DLC with a burning passion. Now, I may decide that characters that debut AFTER the game could be suitable DLC, but I would promote them for Smash 5, instead.

its just that from what I understand time constraints had always been a problem in Smash, with DLC updates he could put those troublesome characters in like IC post launch to work out the bugs

Wouldn't it be much more appreciated to take a bit more time to work out those bugs rather than releasing an incomplete game?

While I agree with you, it is much more of Nintendo having Sakurai and the team get the game out by a certain date, which is tentatively 2014 (probably holiday season). Considering the Wii U is tanking, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Nintendo to rush him to the finish, as in get it out at the original planned date.

So, if for example, Sakurai finishes everybody except...Lucario, Lucas and Ike, he could then release them as DLC for a fair price, because of the profit motive.

On a side note, based on the idea that the game could come out during next year's Christmas season, I think it's fair to say we're going to get Newcomers in next month's Nintendo Direct, and at E3 2014. It would make sense, considering December will be the halfway point, and then E3 coming full circle a year later. Of course, this has just now sparked my fears of getting very few newcomers.

If the initial reveals are to be considered, we may get anywhere from 1 to 3 newcomers per trailer/ reveal. So we have three, could get three next month, then three more at E3. BUT, if they have a launch trailer, they could reveal more at the last second.

Just something to consider I suppose. I think 12 newcomers is a safe estimate because it's the least amount added since the original.

Jones, that last part raised an interesting question. If we only got 12 newcomers, who should they be? You don't have to have the three so far (even though everyone will have Megaman, regardless)

One question before I do this, does Mewtwo count as a newcomer or returning vet?

5. Takamaru
6. Ridley

You know, considering that there won't be a Subspace Emissary-like story mode in this game, does that mean that the time, effort and money that would have otherwise been spent on that can be used to not just bring back all of Brawl's roster, but also get 15 new characters in total as well?
