See? You had to replace Bowser with another villain. But you can drop Luigi without a replacement.
Fine, fine.
Luigi gets jealous of being second banana and decides to become a villain to prove his worth to Mario and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom.
A la MermaidMan and BarnacleBoy V.

Not so much in Link's Awakening, or Majora's Mask, or even in the two Oracle games. Ganon did have some cameos in the gameboy games if I'm not mistaken.

Links Awekaning has marin which pretty much replace zelda, which is identical to her btw, but even then, she is still mentioned in the games manual.
Zelda plays a real role in Majoras Mask teaching to link the times melody and let him stay with the ocarina.
Both oracle plots exist only to prepare the sacrifice ceremony for Zelda.

Ganon may have cameos but not a real influence in the games, he dont even appear in Zelda G&W (the third zelda game to exist), he is not that iconic.

But even then, what would Luigi be jealous of over his brother. It is not like Mario is saving Peach and destroying the Koopa King's army because remember, those two (Peach and Bowser) are not in this story.

Still up Peach's dress.
To prove who's better at completing obstacle courses. The enemies could be replaced with traps that one would build for the other. Or maybe wild animals that could just try and kill them or something.
Why the hell would Mario and Luigi try to murder one another over a friendly competition? They're still family even if they get competitive.

Face it without drastically altering Luigi to a villain for no apparent reason, there's just no conflict between Mario and Luigi. Best you're going to get is a friendly sports rivalry. If Peach was allowed you could argue they could be fighting for her affections, but even then Luigi's got Daisy and that would break the rule.

Isn't this entire argument based on the theoretical concept of Smash Bros. only having two Mario characters?

I'm not arguing that Luigi is more integral to the plot of Mario games than Bowser is, cause I think Bowser has Luigi beat in that department.

But I am saying that Super Smash Bros. has always had Mario and Luigi.

He's the most prominent bad guy in the series, I'd say he's that iconic.

Well I never said that the traps they would build would kill each other. It could stop them from beating a level.

Rather instead, that the random animal could like in Mario Bros. where they fight turtles and crabs. Perhaps I should have worded that better, my mistake.

This is true. I think Bowser was slated for the first game. But there was not either enough time or it was too difficult to implement him. I mean Bowser doesn't even run correctly until the fourth edition of Smash Brothers. Luigi was easy clone material (which is exactly how he was created in the first place in the Mario Universe; for the second player).

Games where Ganondorf appeared and was a villain.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3D / Master Quest)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (HD)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Games where Ganon (Ganondorf's demon form) appeared.

The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3D / Master Quest)
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (HD)
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Games where Ganon/Ganondorf is referenced and talked about, yet doesn't appear.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Furthermore, Ganondorf has been playable in Super Smash Bros Melee and Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Ganon(dorf) is a very iconic character. He is THE main villain of the series. How is he "not that iconic?"

Oh! And Marin and Zelda are very different and the sacrifice in the Oracle games was to revive Ganon. Not Zelda. And Ganon did appear in the third game in the series, A Link to the Past.

He is, but he doesnt have priority over zelda, thats my point.

You got it all wrong xD i know he is important, im the biggest ganys fan you may ever find, but he still is a step behind zelda.

anyone else wonder why Wolf, who is a Wolf, has more moves with claw slashing and swiping than any biting at all? it strikes me as odd as all. i mean in other fictions Wolfs and dogs for that matter are usually are biting. they usually get to slashing when they're werewolves... which makes all of this questioning silly i suppose. i mean where does Wolf O'Donnel fall all the Wolf - Werewolf gradient? And does he have robotic prosthetic legs like the star fox team or did they write that out of canon? I never thought about it but it would really tie in to how powerful the spacies leg based moves are. Seems like they got rather dependent on their awesome robot parts are they barely embrace any potential animal fighting instinct. Though Falco did get a bit more Avian in animation when they got to Brawl.

Fox had tons of kicks and the occasional tail swipe, abusing his robot legs
Falco eventually being prideful decided to use his space-animal-god given talents and used his tail, beak, and wings.
Wolf will do whatever it takes to win. No one expect a lupus with canines to come out swinging with claws on the paws.

Characters and movesets compliment each other Saturn.

Nope. I don't have to worry about time constraints :troll:

Well, using claws and a tail is still common in fiction when a canine character fights. But I get your point. Maybe he can use them in throws. And I'm pretty sure the robot leg thing was written out of canon after 64. Since Fox's boots are no longer robotic looking.

Mario, Peach, Luigi, and Bowser. Take out two of them and come up with a (non-porn) story.

The thing about this exercise is that you can take out any two except for Bowser and have a good story He is the catalyst. He is the Koopa King.
SINCE WHEN DO PEOPLE GIVE A **** ABOUT MARIO'S PLOT!?!?!?

Every conversation is an argument in Saturn's eyes.
Did anybody ask for your smart ass comment? No I don't think so. And when someone continues to debate about something that is pretty much a closed case then it's pretty much just plain arguing. Being important to the plot of a series where plot isn't even important doesn't really make you more important than one of the Mario Brothers. There is a difference between being important to a plot and being important to a series.

If you take out Bowser as a villain, you need another villain. If you take Luigi out, nothing happens.

That is why I think Bowser is more important to the series.

Sakurai, however, seems to put in protagonist, sidekick, and then villain in a series if we are going by Smash patterns. So Sakurai does seem to prefer the sidekick over the villain. And that is what matters when trying to predict what will happen next.

If I made Smash, all main series would get the hero and villain first so heros can swap villains in battles.

That is the problem. It isn't a closed case, we are talking about a SUBJECTIVE notion. I was just answering your question (Who even think's Mario's plot is significant).

Hey man be cool, he's tired of the arguing as much as you are. And to be fair, you begin most of the arguments anyway from what i've seen.

I do agree with crusher, although I would have put it a little less harshly :p

Are you this naive? I think you need to shut it before you embarrass yourself.

I always get a kick out of how hypocritical this thread can be. Funny stuff like this always brightens up my day.

I wasn't really disagreeing when it came to Mario's plot, it is somewhat irrelevant, if you didn't like my comment you could of just said so, not call me a smart *** for it.
