As much as I love Luigi, Bowser is more important. He's the one that gets the plot rolling. This is true of nearly any media with a good vs evil narrative; the antagonist is the one planning everything and setting things into motion; the protagonist is merely reactionary to the events the villain has set up.

Basic storytelling after all. No villain/antagonist=no conflict=no plot.

Morbid is correct.

Bowser doesnt have a game.
The Mario BROS franchise is called like that for something.

More important to the Mario Series =/= More important to the plot of some Mario games

You can have Mario without a plot you know. Morbid is incorrect. Am I suppose to believe that Nintendo sees Bowser as more important to their history than Luigi? It's SUPER MARIO BROS. Mario is most important, then Luigi, then I guess Bowser. Without Luigi there is no BROS.

Luigi's whole claim to fame is being overshadowed. Not just by Mario, but by Bowser and Peach and koopas and goombas and bo-bombs...

I am not incorrect, the notion is subjective. Ideally we simply believe that the plot of the game is more important than the name of the game. Just how ZELDA is the most important? AMIRIGHT?

You can also have a Mario game without Luigi.

As we have in the past. Like in the most famous one: Mario 64. Or MarioRPG. Or Mario Sunshine.

So yes, I do think Bowser is more important overall than Luigi. They even ditched the Bros. name for a while there. It's back now, and I'm glad because let's be honest; he's the better brother, but to say Bowser's less important than Luigi is also kind of foolish.

I'll comprimise and say they're both the second most important if you like, but the antagonist is nearly always the most important character in a story outside the main lead. Arguably more so actually, or there wouldn't be any obstacles for the protagonist to overcome.

Zelda and Ganondorf and Link are all equal. They each get an equal slice of the pie (which is shaped like a slice of pie). By pie, I mean Tri-force.

I was just stating that the name of the game is irrelevant. The plot device, "conflict" is the only reason we have a game. Bowser just happens to be the conflict or create the conflict. Without him, Luigi would be WAY more important. The Brothers would just run around and collect coins for no reason. Even then, I would argue that Peach is more important than Luigi. Just because she is the new instigator of "conflict" if she got lost somewhere without Bowser.

The thing about this exercise is that you can take out any two except for Bowser and have a good story He is the catalyst. He is the Koopa King.

Not so much in Link's Awakening, or Majora's Mask, or even in the two Oracle games. Ganon did have some cameos in the gameboy games if I'm not mistaken.

Okay.
Luigi is corrupted and in a twist of events is the villain.
Mario must fight his brother in the toughest adventure of his life.

Mario and Luigi decide to have a competition to see who's better and they go through 8 worlds worth of levels to prove their worth. That decent enough?

The story that is never told. How Mario and Luigi lived in a studio apartment, ate pasta, took turns on the couch or bed when sleeping, and then woke up to tackle plugged pipes.

To prove what? The koopas and toads would be living in harmony. The worlds would not be crawling with the Koopa King's army.

To prove who's better at completing obstacle courses. The enemies could be replaced with traps that one would build for the other. Or maybe wild animals that could just try and kill them or something.
