Villains are always my favorite characters, so I'd like to see as many as possible. With that said, I'm only expecting Ridley and K. Rool for this round, though I'd certainly enjoy Kamek and especially Porky too. Neither Samurai Goroh or Black Shadow seem interesting to me though, maybe it's because they're humans or w/e.

I'm the weird one of sorts, I love Shadow the Hedgehog as a character and for some reason I even enjoyed his game.

I expect anything from 45 to 48 characters.

If there are cuts, they will be minimal, so I wouldn't expect more than 2 or 3. Additionally, Sakurai has to know that to a majority of the fanbase, adding anything less than 10 will be a disappointment.

So 3 cuts + 10 newcomers = 46 characters. But w/o cuts that would be 49, which isn't really even that bad.

50 characters should not be an impossibility, but it shouldn't be 100% expected. An estimate between 45-49 is good.

Concerning roster slots, I can easily see it being 43 or 44 characters including cuts.

What I'd like to see the most though is 46 characters, because if we say that no newcomer has a transformation, that'd make the total character count 50, and for some reason I really like that.

I don't think a franchise like Fire Emblem really needs a villain, considering that the villains are inconsistent and really wouldn't represent anything aside from the game they star in. So really, I think Fire Emblem would be well off with Marth, Ike, and then Rye or Corn.

The problem with the Sonic characters is not the characters themselves, it's what came with them. Looking back, I didn't really mind characters like Blaze, Team Chaotix, Shadow (pre-marketing), etc., I was bothered more by what they tried to force. With a couple exceptions, their mechanics didn't play into the gameplay that well as you could go from a fast paced platformer to a slow, tedious fishing game and that throws things off. If they managed their characters well, they'd probably be better received despite the number, but they don't and that hurts the games typically.

Anyway, I expect around 45-47 characters for the roster.

Dedede is hardly ever a villain actually, most of the time he's possessed and what not. When he's a villain, which he is only in Dream Land and Revenge of the King iirc, it's just because he's a fatass or a douche. He's not directly evil or anything, he just does whatever he wants to, which often has consequences on the denizens of Dream Land. Same for Meta Knight, he hasn't been featured in a real villain role since Super Star, otherwise he actually acts like the defender of Dream Land, as is the case in Squeak Squad and Amazing Mirror.

However, I do consider both of them villains for the most part, with Dedede it's mostly because of his personality, where as with Meta Knight it's just because I adore the Revenge of Meta Knight mode in Super Star too much.

Trust me, the Dark Knight is no villain. It is understandable, if you haven't played the FE games it might confuse you. He is actually a hero, they just make him out to be a villain. In the end, they all understand that he is a hero.

I played the famicom one, the SNES remake and Shadow Dragon. I never finish them, is just not my kind of strategy game.

Shoulda re worded that better buddy, advance wars has a similar gameplay..... but I guess you like guns more than swords and dragons...

Advance wars is awesome too, too bad it's overshadowed.

This OVER 9000X. K. Rool sounds like the more ideal choice, but they are both great choices that contribute a lot from their respective franchises.

Assuming you mean FE1 when you say "the Famicom one" because there are two Famicom FE games.

You realize you played the games that most fans of the series consider the weakest?

Let's say Sakurai still hasn't added K. Rool yet, and it's near the end of development. With Sakurai running out of time, he could easily add Dixie Kong as a last-minute semi-clone instead of K. Rool.

Well those three games aren't exactly the epitome of FE storytelling, same with the gameplay as that's the first of them (and its remakes). The other FE games are usually better about handling their characters and gameplay.
