I think he meant his own artwork which I'm certain he will get at least in the game itself. I mean Wario got one for both his Wario Ware and Classic outfits. So I don't see why Male Fit Trainer wouldn't get one.

Is anybody even going to use the Male Wii Fit Trainer? I would have much preferred Female Villager be confirmed today.

Lets talk potential alt costumes for characters, its a new topic that had been shund for no good reasons...

Im pretty sure when Sakurai stated alt costumes wont be in, he was saying it in context to customization. Kind of like in Soul Caliber where you can design costumes and weapons. It would be cool if you had to unlock alternate costumes in some mode, probably allstar mode if it returns.

But anyways, heres some ideas I had kicking around.

Mario - dr mario, shadow mario
Luigi - Mr L (dat music)
Peach - Daisy
Bowser - dry bones

DK - Funky?
K Rool - DKC 2 and 3 designs

Link - shadow link, fierce deity?
Ganondorf - old man ganon?

Samus - dark samus?
Ridley - meta ridley

Metaknight - galactaknight

Marth - Lucina, Chrom?

Cpt Falcon - pink falcon

little mac - pink jogging suit

Sonic - Shadow
Megaman - x, roll, protoman, zero?
Snake - big boss

Just some ideas, but I feel like some of these are very possible. Weve seen it before in Brawl, and I was confused when only Wario had an alt costume when dr mario could have easily been thrown in there.

I probable will. While screaming things like "ITS TIME.. FOR FITNESS!!" as my awkward and manly avatar beats the snot out of my friends.

That probably fell on deaf ears... My point is that he'd be fun character to use while screwing around.

"Hopefully, this isn't another case of two very similar characters taking up slots on the roster. Super Smash Bros. Brawl featured three Star Fox characters who were essentially just model swaps - Fox, Falco and Wolf. Of course, it's possible that the male trainer could be nothing more than an assist trophy."

male wii fit trainer was in because it's the same avatar kind of character, with the same name and purpose. This in no way confirms that skins could include COMPLETELY SEPARATED characters, which don't make any sense.

They wont cut characters just so they can be costumes. It doesn't make any sense. But a character like, say, mario, has had many forms and tons of costumes throughout the years. Dr. Mario would be an easy model swap, and then they have a reason to add dr mario music, stages, etc. It would be strange to have dr mario music with no dr mario.

Ya I know dr mario was cut before, but he was a clone through and through. If he was a seperate character moveset wise, then they shouldve kept him seperate. But he isnt.

EDIT: Shadow Mario theme from Sunshine would be epic

I think this new alternate costume thing is being blown out of proportion by many people.
This is how I see it:
Including only the female wii fit trainer was, for lack of a better term, unfair. The female and male trainers were sort of a duo that collectively were the wii fit trainers. Including only the female one didn't cover all the bases of the wii fit trainer. So adding the male trainer as an alternate costume made the representation solid as it should be.

Other characters are not going to be getting costume simply because they can. Those characters are complete as they are. Wario, on the other hand, had two costume but they were equally popular, iconic, and used. So just as in Wii fit trainer's case it would be unfair to represent wario with one costume.

Alt costumes are a way to properly represent a character, not a way to slip in another character or add in a one-time, abnormal costume.

Welp, it seems that alt. costumes are confirmed, at least for WFT. Not that I'd really use the male version anyway, but it's something.

Guess we'll see alt. costumes for others as well?

I honestly highly doubt all of the characters will get alts, though if they did I'd be pleasantly surprised.

Wario will likely come back with both costumes. Samus could get the Fusion suit, Helmet-less Megaman, and there's also Female Villager. Most of the Mario characters have a ton of options. But would Sonic get? Maybe his classic look.

Gooood afternoon all, hope you're all doing well as I wish you all a happy Halloween. :p

Anyways, it seems as if we had a fitting snapshot today of the Male Wii Fit Trainer for Halloween, thus confirming that alternate costumes will officially be happening for more characters than just Wario. I'm interested to see where they can go with this, especially for the likes of characters like the Pokemon Trainer and Sonic the Hedgehog. However, only time will tell if we'll actually see more about it...

Actually, Wario was met with a somewhat poor reception exactly because he didn't wear his recognizable overalls. I'm pretty sure that led to the inclusion of his alternate costume.

I could see Villager getting a Female Villager alternate skin, since it's an avatar character and falls very much into the same criteria as Wii Fit Trainer. I could also see Dr. Mario reappearing, would be a nice way for Sakurai to make people able to play as one of their past cut mains, and considering how he hates cutting characters, it's a realistic thought.

Besides those two, I don't see any more additional ones happening. No Metal Sonic, no Fusion/Light/Dark/P.E.D Suit Samus, no Meta Ridley, no Galacta Knight, no Kaptain K. Rool, and most certainly not any costumes which change the proportions of a character, like Classic Sonic, Roy and Pichu. Those costumes simply aren't as important to their respective characters as the male/female roles are for the avatar characters, and some of them downright change the character into a completely seperate character. Sure it'd be ****ing awesome with different suit Samuses, but it's most likely just not happening.

So yeah, I agree with you.

Being temporary power-ups, Mega Evolutions just fit right in as Final Smashes.

I think alternate costumes are great, but ONLY if they still match the character. Male Wii Fit Trainer is still Wii Fit Trainer. A female Villager is still Villager. A female Pokemon Trainer is still Pokemon Trainer.

But things like "Impa as Sheik" would be strange to me. It isn't the same character any more. I'd argue that Lucina/Marth would be strange too; I follow the idea that Lucina used Marth's name and all, but they're still separate characters.

Heck, though. Someone could argue with me that a female Pokemon Trainer could be different.
In my opinion, the only way we could justify the female Pokemon Trainer as a different character with her own slot is if she has different Pokemon. No Squirtle. No Ivysaur. No Charizard.
