im thinking the likeliest sets (not naming a default)

would be

the silver/black meta ridley
the purple coloured ridley
yeah i can probably see the brownish 'original' ridley (i havent played the original, so i dont want to name him as original if he wasnt)
A red coloured ridley i have seen in some interpretations though i dont know if this has been in an actuall game
the MP3 Ridley, unless its the same as one of the above.

I would use Meta Ridley why? Because he is freaking awesome! Dude..the MP3 Ridley looks like an overgrown purple chicken no offense..but Purple?! Gee I can imagine that Ridley got Phazon inside him but Purple?! How in the hell?! Never mind he should get some PHIR3! It would be awesome I can imagine it now.."Vegeta what's his power level?!" "It's over 9000!"

DK077 his mp3 look is amazing, im guessin he looks blue (not purple) cause maybe they use [hazon to revive him, just an Idea, and I gotta say thats the best look ridley has had so far...

He can be easily resized, have u not seen the melee intro? he can easily have that size, and can be playable... obcourse those with little imagination dont get that...

BUMP! because ridley absolutely has to be put in this game, being the only reasonable longtime representative of the series (being in every single game except like 2-3) outside samus.

This is the best movest I've seen for Ridley.

-Moderately heavy
-Scaled down to Bowser size.
-A-attacks including (but not limited to) tail swipes/stabs, bites, claw slashes and wing strikes.
-Has two midjumps
-Falls fairly quickly.
-Neutral B: Fire blast: Like someone mentioned before, Ridley would spit multiple fireballs, with progressing range. The number of fireballs depends how many times you press it in succession (up to 4). When firing, you can change the direction of the blast, ala Yoshi. When held, the blast will charge in his mouth. Maximum charge is five seconds. When the charge is released, Ridley will let out a screech and the blast will discharge. The blast would be a mix of Roy's fully charged B, Bowser's B, and Mario's Fsmash. It would start as an explosion, and send opponents flying, and finish as a steady flame Like Ness's PK fire, only bigger.
-Forward B: Lunge: On the ground, Ridley will lunge forward and grab the enemy next to him. If out of range, it will be a slashing attack, ala Bowser. Once in Ridley's grip, the enemy will be exposed to biting (with A), or torching (with B). When performed in the air, Ridley will fly forward a little farther than Fox's illusion, swooping down a little and coming back up. This is used as an alternate recovery, like Illusion. If an opponent is grabbed by this, Ridley will comeplete the move, enemy in his claws. When you are still in the air with the opponent, you can tailstab him (>B/<B), stomp him to the ground (vB), throw him back up (^B), or torch him (B). If the enemy is thrown back up, you will not be stunned and will be able to do more aerial attacks. When you land with the opponent, the earlier controls apply.
-Down B: Protect? (not sure what to call it): Ridley will wrap his wings around him, absorbing all attacks for a second (like Meta Knight, w/o invisibility). If attacks are absorbed, he will abruptly open his wings and screech, hitting enemies from all directions. This will work like Marth/Roy's Down B, except hitting enemies anywhere, not just in front of him. If nothing hits Ridley, he will calmly open his wings.
-Up B: Sky Missile: Ridley will strongly flap his wings once, blowing opponents downward (useful for edgeguarding)and swoop upward with his fings now folded. At the top of the flight, he will open up, hitting those in front of him with a slash. When performed on the ground, He will screech and flap is wings, blowing everyone away from him and creating some distance. If the enemy is airbourne, it will turn them around like Mario's cape.
-Throw: He will grab the opponent. Hitting them will make Ridley claw at them, throwing them forward or back will make Ridley fling him/her away and shoot a follow up missile. Throwing them up will just, well... throw them upward. Throwing down will make Ridley stomp on them, and slash them away.
-Taunt: Ridley will throw his arms back, flap his wings, and screech.
-When kirby sucks him up, he will get wings and a tail.

I like Ridley, he be a much need badass amongest these cutesy-wutesy hellspawns,he'd be the more likely metroid character to make it in(I like Dark Samus,but with normal and ZS,we really don't need more). However, his body physicis be too weird.. Its not that hes too big or anything,I'm referring to his wings. I mean,won't he look kind of clunky flying low above a stage? Also, what it be kind of cheap to simply fly back up to the stage every time hes knocked off? to a And wouldn't he probably cover-up the other characters on the screen, now I think about it?

He was aleady scaled down, remember the SSBM intro when Samus was fighting ridley? He was skinny and only slightly taller than Samus, he had little start up time in his movements but he has laggy [as shown when he charges at Samus and Samus shoots him and the scene switch]

They could make him pretty fair too, he could be like Kirby with 5 jumps and a semi-recovery move [or none at all] or he could be completely different and have around 3 mid air jumps and a recovery move.

EDIT: Hey Bobby I had the same idea for Ridleys upB, I always thought his wings should be used from something other than flying as well.

Now ridley, yes its hard to imagine him in the game, he can be resized, but the wings are a problem, the solution should be how pit has his wings when hes on the ground, and also he should have multiple jump, but be a fast faller, thus it wouldnt be as easy to get to the stage...

You'ed have to be crazy to consider ridley. He's too big to fit for one thing.
So was Bowser.....but that was changed

Ridley should be in. Metroid was under rep'd in melee with ONLY having Samus. The Metroid series should have AT LEAST 2 characters, considering it's sucess. And, then there's Z suit Samus......which is ok, i guess....but i'd rather have another metroid character BESIDES 2 Samus' . that being said, there are barely any flaws with including Ridley. He's popular, and he's unique. Moveset ideas are numerous. Ridley should be in brawl.

btw ....Ridley > Dark Samus

I'm actually aware of that. But most other people who play the game won't. They'll think the game is just being stacked with different versions of Samus.

Yea I agree, I hope for Ridley in the game, he's awesome and would be one of the better chars Nintendo could possibly add to brawl.

yeah ridley really needs the spot in brawl. hes been a part of the series just too long to ignore.

Possible ideas on specials/stats/throws/etc
dont want to give number ratings here just saying general ideas


Weight - high if added as meta ridley(heavy metal plateing after all), medium-high if just as normal ridley
Ground move speed - medium-slow
aerial movement - excellent. hes got wings after all
Jumps - multiple. more than just 2 but less than say kirby's 5 or 6. jumps reach greater horizontal distance and a relatively short vertical distance (for the same reasons and barrag glide, explained below)
general power rating - slower more powerful stuff on ground, faster and weaker attacks in the air

special B moves (as added as Meta Ridley)

B - Fiery breath. *is not similar to bowser's* medium/long range fire attack. creates blast of fire the height of say kirby at chest-level above the ground. strikes anything between ridley and where it dissipates for damage based on distance. if your right there next to him you take heavier damage, less as you move away from him. at large distance the damage is negligible to none. close opponents also catch fire and burn for a few more points of damage.
medium startup time (compareable to about 80% of falcon punch startup time.)

B> Shrieking terror. Lets out a terrrible screech in a wave a sound. causes minimal to 0% damage but forces nearby (as in really nearby) players to run in the opposite direction for a few seconds. does not work on opponents who are facing the other direction or holding a hammer. causes airborne opponents to facefall onto the ground. primarily a defensive manouevre (sp?). has a short-medium startup time but little lag upon completion, allowing you to have the time to get a fire breath off would be one use.

note this uses a similar animation as his roars when he is grounded during the fight in Prime (you know when he screeches/shrieks and than you would have to blast his head) only alot loud

Bv - Dive. Jumps up and swoops forward with claws ready to seriously make chalkboard music out of somebody. If caught in the middle of the dive, it will grab the opponent and mashing/dragging them into the ground for greater damage. on airborne opponents the corecctly timed dive will spike them with his tail rather than dragging them along the ground.

B^ - barrage glider. Like the meta ridley fight in prime, Sends him in the direction controlled by user. drops little missiles which fall down (speed and trajectory altered by your direction of motion and momentum) to bomb small opponent. flies a fairly decent distance but bombs only drop for the first body length or two. The distance will be affected by direction, IE used as a recovery on horizontal distance gets much farther than trying to recover upwards. The idea is gliding takes less energy while flying up (and being covered in freaking metal plates) would be exhausting, so you get much farther of a horizontal or slightly downward glide. The bombs do small damag indivudally with low to almost no knockback. damage would be great if you jumped up high and glide'd straight down, as the bombs would fall faster and all land in the same area.


THROWS.

grab-attack - gets hungry and decideds its snack time. im sure you figrue out the rest.

Forward - throws em forward a short distance than blasts em with firebeam stlye attack

Down - Flies up and dive bombs, landing on them as they hit the ground. can be escaped from *just* before reaching the ground, giving ridley a unique dining experience with the taste of floor.

Down smash - the tail whipping attack he uses when on the ground in prime. winds up and lets it go, smashins opponent to either side with his metal plated tail and koncking them back and a low trajectory.

up smash - Smashes them upwards with his head (winds up by having his head lower then reaches up to his full extent and snaps at them.

so yeah he flies over and does his pew pew laserbeam thing for damage. then a big explosion happens where the laser passed (like the one part in the bomberman64 story opening vid)

Alright! Um...

With his wings and large body, Ridley would make for a very interesting character. He could, however, be very broken. A way to solve this would be to give him Kirby jumps (get lower each time, or simply stay the same level horizontally) and make him as heavy as Bowser.

He may not be in because Sakurai feels Metroid has enough representation with just the two Samus'. Until he's confirmed he's still in purgatory with all the other characters, but with a higher chance of being in it. If Sakurai does not think Metroid has enough representation then yaa, Ridley's practically in. Dark Samus doesn't have as much of a chance because he's/it's only been in a few games whilst Ridley's been there since the first ones.

That's a good moveset, but there is a little bit of dependence on Meta Ridley. Also probably what I think he'll turn out like on the whole... But the "Super Smash" move's a bit cliche - even for Ridley. Why not give him a little more powerful? Look at Mario's massive forming-bubble-like fireball. Ridley would suit better with a flying move that moves all across the stage... Like he's covered in a large layer of flames and swoops down on to the stage back and forth. That would be better, but I haven't put any thought into it. Good work there.

Yeah, but... I don't think there'll be three Metroid characters. It's just not a very story-heavy series. The bosses are usually one-off giants, the rare character in the midst of all the delightful killing is usually less than memorable. Ridley sort of breaks that trend, which is what is so great about him, and Dark Samus sort of followed his lead. If Ridley showed how smart he really is he'd be one of the pioneering villains in Nintendo games - unless they ruined his voice like Bowser in 'Sunshine.

We may think Zamus isn't a seperate character but Sakurai and the 'Brawl team may still see her as enough work to warrant a character. I know she's gained access to by special means, but that doesn't mean they will discount her as half a character.

Dude Zamus is a character, u can use her rite? sure shes a transformation but still shes a character... and yes its common knowledge that ridley is a better choise for a metroid character, but dark samus is easily the runer-up...

@smash daddy: dude sakurai stated he wants to better reprsent the metroid series, with it now being far mora popular than when ssb and melee were released, and I doubt 3 characters (one being a transformation) will do it, the kirby series will probably have 3 characters (kirbyt, metaknight and dedede) and that series aint as popular or as important as metroid...
