With the 25th anniversary of the original game coming up, I think Nintendo should take the early 8-bit Zelda games and remake them for the DS and/or the 3DS. Specifically, I'm talking about the first two games (on the NES) and Link's Awakening (on the GB, later GBC).

The games can either be released separately, or in one Game Card (similar to Mario All-Stars). Nintendo really should take this opportunity to have some of their early hits enhanced to mark an anniversary.

What do you think?

I donno, I personally think that the NES Zelda haven't aged particularly well. I'd rather see a remake of ALttP myself.

LttP doesn't need to be remade. It's perfect.

The two NES games, however, could very well do with remakes. Zelda 1 is very basic in the puzzle department but it still has the most enigmatic Overworld in the series. It would be awesome to see it with more detail.

Zelda 2 is a good game, honestly! It's way hard, but I think it's not thatunfair. I'd like to see a more forgiving continue system, though, if it ever gets remade. I loved the stats and spells they put in. I always wonder why spells/magic isn't a big part of Zelda, like it is in Zelda 2.

Link's Awakening is almost as perfect as LttP, but I definitely wouldn't mind non-Gameboy graphics.

I agree that the biggest thing against Zelda II is the continue system. Fortunately you don't have to start completely over if you die in the final temple. If you did, I probably never would have finished the game (and the fact that you just crouch in the corner to defeat Dark Link, haha. I should replay the game and have a real battle with him sometime). I could also see them letting you level up a few more levels in a remake as well.

That post kind of gave me an idea.

Discuss what changes you would make to each game, and any new features as well.

Zelda II would definitely need its continue system revamped.

When I heard about the new rumoured title( LoZ no subtitle) I thought it was gonna be a remake, but then I read on in to the article and its gonna be the first ever part of the timline of zelda! So, with that said, isnt it gonna make things really difficult having two games with the same exact name?

P.S have we agreed on a spot for the minish cap yet? I havent been on the timeline thread in a while so could someone fill me in on that?

If they took the best Wii technology to remake the old Zeldas, it'd be epic. They just need to not ruin it. I've seen so many remakes ruin it, like when they do-over movies. <.< I think Nintendo could pull it off though, their FF remakes were epic, so why not?

If Zelda Wii is indeed called "The Legend of Zelda", we'll just continue calling it Zelda Wii or ZWii. It would make sense, given that come February 21, it will be the series' 25th anniversary. It's interesting because the first game was the start of a series, followed by a sequel, then followed by what all thought would be another sequel, but turned out to be a prequel that was later dubbed a sequel, but indirectly, blah blah we still don't know where it's based. So now, if the rumors are valid, they're making the original "Legend of Zelda" to truly begin the constructive series as we know it.

The Zelda Wii engine has been in the making for so long that you can surely bet they'll make another game with it. It'd be neat if they took the engine and made a true remake of LoZ and AoL bundled into one adventure. It would be significantly different from both, but carry on the same story and lore.

I like this idea, but you're making Zelda Wii sound like a reboot rather than a prequel to everything (then again, it could be a reboot, we won't find out until Nintendo's Press Conference). Either way, I'd be interesting to see Nintendo do this if it was done well.

I'm gonna bet that if the new LoZ is just called "Legend of Zelda" we'll probably end of calling it "Zelda 2010" or "Zelda Wii."

<.< It'd be funny if they gave up on new ideas and took now to remake them all. (I doubt it, that'd be depressing. they need to make new ones + remake)

That sounds interesting. I've never played the Legend of Zelda 1 before.

Hope it doesn't cost too much.
