It's time to take the next step into creating our power rankings - Regional Panelists.

What is a Regional Panelist?

The Regional Panelists are a group of people chosen to create the criteria for the power rankings and list the best players of that region according to that criteria. These people can live anywhere between Maine and Virginia, and are made up of the most highly qualified players with both knowledge of the game and the community. Once the panelists are chosen, they will meet together and discuss, argue, and debate the rankings of the players using the criteria they created as a basis, eventually agreeing or voting in the end what the new ranking should be.

How does one become a Regional Panelist?

The following are the criteria we want to look for in order to be qualified to be a panelist:*
  • Must have been in smashboards for a year after their first tournament
(Note: This means that Melee veterans who play Brawl will have priority in this criterion. Any new Brawl players who started in 2008 will have an exception, granted that they fit the other two criteria.)
  • Must have been in a major tournament in the past 6 months
  • Active in his local community. (At the least, attending two events every month)
*We reserve the right to waive one of these restrictions if we feel the person otherwise qualifies.

We are looking for 9 panelists to make up the group, with 3 divided from each of the following 3 districts we have in our region:
  • New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut)
  • Tristate Area (Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey)
  • Lower North Eastern States [Is there a name for this region?] (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia)
How the panelists will be divided up statewise is still being discussed. However, only one member from a crew may be allowed to register as a panelist.

Application

In order to apply to become a panelist, please send a private message to Warrior of Zarona, or e-mail it to warriorofzarona@smashboards.com, with the following information:

  1. Real Name and Smashboards Name (Or Preferred Gamertag)
  2. Did you enter the competitive community through Melee or Brawl?
  3. The (approximate) date and title of the first tournament attended
(Note: For Melee Veterans, include both your first Melee tournament as well as your first Brawl tournament)
  4. The name and approximate date of the most major tournament you have attended in the last 6 months
  5. Two events in your own community that you have attended in the past six months OR another major regional event besides the last one you referenced
  6. Aside from the above, explain why you feel you should be qualified to become a panelist
  7. Create a top 25 list of what you believe the power rankings should look like in our region
The registration process will end on November 30th, 2008. Those who have been accepted will receive PM's with important information regarding the next step in the process.

With that said, I encourage anyone and everyone who believe they can qualify to register. Good luck.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post it here.

I feel like I could be, but I meet not one of those requirements...
I pay attention to all of the players in our area, and know who is good. But I guess it just wasnt meant to be...

I think TA should limit themselves to one rep. Or at least, one rep from the different sub-regions (since there's TA even in NJ and NY, if I remember correctly).

I think I'd throw it between Aho, Kaiser, Chinesah, and Tope.

Because lists like that won't be accurate and is prone to more arguements and confliction. It's better off leaving it to a group assigned for that very purpose. Things that are made official have more weight than simple opinions from random people.

As panelists, only these people will have a real say on who's ranked where. If you want your voice to be heard, you better try and register before the deadline.

I'd also like to note that if you plan on registering to be a panelist, please don't be afraid of insulting anyone - It's better off not letting it influence the list. Please be confident with your opinions.

this thing is gay, why dont we just say

1) M2K, PC, KDJ, Azen, Chu any order
2) everyone else

there my list looks accurate

Edit - wait I forgot Neooooooooooo
m2k, maybe you should shut up...every time the idea of a regional list is made, you basically say the same thing.(if you need examples, ill pull some up) maybe people are more interested in just the top 5 players? maybe people are interested in more than just the people who give you trouble. maybe the world doesnt revolve around m2k.

if ya don't care for the list ignore it. and stop trying to be subtly arrogant by throwing your name in with the other elites.

i dont even like the idea of a list, im just sorta sick of seeing your dumb posts.

the power rankings list is stupid, I believe there's a fairly huge gap after the first 5 people, and even if we DID have a full top 25 list, it would just cause more arguments like the original top 25 did, and we don't need all that drama that's definitely going to follow. People play bad at certain tourneys, or play good, and matches vary, anything can happen with anyone, people can improve with some characters a lot and get worse with others, learn new tricks even, or get better with strategies but be out of practice so lose tech skill (which is my case with Fox at the moment), so lists will vary a lot, and even though you can change them every month and stuff, I still don't think that having one is a good idea, it will just cause more arguments and drama, and will probably be inaccurate in a lot of places and it is indeed in fact mostly for just bragging rights. We aren't army men that are going to be catagorized by numbers anyway, but a lot of people care about their individual rank.

jfox - no offense, but i dont give a **** about what you think, im sticking with what i say. Every time we have a power rankings there's just arguments about little placings and I think it's stupid and I'm entitled to my opinion and I will say it in however many threads I want to.

KM - what was the point of that unnecessary comment. I have been doing fine with my tourney placings even when im playing like absolute ****, you shouldn't put me behind everyone just because i haven't done exceptional in singles at an MLG yet like the other 4 have. I said any order for a reason, as we are all extremely close in how good we are to a very high degree. Although it IS true that my fox sucks *** now compared to what it was like 2 months ago, I really do need to step it up, my tech skill is rusty as hell and I need to practice with him cuz he's getting way worse but my Marth got substantially better in return thanks to almost only using Marth for the past 3 months straight. Im tired of playing this ****ing game alone so i dont practice much anymore cept on tourney days or smashfests. For some reason if I stop playing for a while then I actually do get a lot worse technically whereas most other players don't get that much worse when they stop, I don't know why this is but it seems to happen to me a lot when I take "breaks" from smash for other games I like to play, like Zelda or Metroid or anything. God i ****ing hate smash at the same time as i love it. I can't wait till brawl. I hate my life so much I've always been so angry and depressed lately, and the last thing I need is people to talk badly about me or the things I say, cuz I believe honesty over modesty but there's no point to be a **** for no reason, and after I get my Wii and beat Twilight Princess with 100% then I am going to try to get better at smash because I have nothing else to do anyway.

Edit - wow I'm such an emo kid

Honestly M2K i feel that yes you make some good points but the power ranking i think will do more good than harm. i feel i would be much more motivated to participate in tournaments and practice if there was a possible reward of seeing myself as one of the top players in my community. at the moment i feel fairly unmotivated because i don't have the ability to attend things like mlg where i can get noticed nationally but with this people who i actaully play against will be voting whether i am good enough to be ranked with the top players on the east coast. Just putting my two cents ;)

PS i hope that you are gonna be a panelist woz... you'd be perfect for the job, the modest smasher all the way!

It doesn't matter what you think, M2K. We made a poll, and the majority of our community want a Power Ranking. You had your chance to discuss your points back then.

now i didnt read your response cuz you WOT'ed me, but my response is this: i'm just keeping your ego in check, somebody has to do it. you know i think youre an alright guy, its just that its very hard to be nice to you when you think so highly of yourself and you dont accept anyone elses input on anything.

Plairnkk's got the right idea.

M2K, stop being emo. Just stop devoting so much time and energy to only Smash and do other things. Actually hang out with people and try new things, and you'll be happier. Trust me.

Hm, this thread turned into poopoo. m2k you know whoever argues about placement (in the way you're complaining about, not intelligently) on a list is strictly just jealous/stupid in general, so it doesn't really matter. The list should inspire competition among the people who aren't the top 5, according to your reasoning...

Anyway, it's the 27th. Time to wait till tonight.

New York isn't part of New England <_< (edit: PC was against the idea anyway.)

I told KDJ to try and register, I guess he never went through.

Alright alright alright.

I'll be a panelist.

Guitar Hero 2 is so addicting. There should be a Guitar Hero Regional Power Rankings.

XD

Be sure to go through the registration process. It helps us keep track of things.

We're going to need one more from New England, and perhaps one more from the lower North Eastern states that isn't in TA.

I think finding a good panelist living in MD/VA that isn't TA will be very difficult.

Pretty much anyone who lives around here, has a high level of skill, and regularly attends tournaments is in TA (it's massive, and new members constantly appear and disappear). The only real exceptions are Azen/Chillin/Chu, and a few members of TNR. Team Ben's members attend local tournaments very, very rarely.

I want Tope to be a panelist too!

I'm not even sure who you are or if I've ever seen you play or heard of you placing well at tournies.

PC was against the idea of a list just cause of the random dumb arguments idiot heads make.
