A few days ago, a friend of mine, Dustin, was shot at the community clubhouse of my suburban neighborhood. I haven't talked to him in months, seeing as how we only saw each other at the paintball field. I really don't know what to think of this. I go to that place nearly every day. This whole experience was a real eye-opener for me, I've been depressed for a good deal of time now because I really regret not seeing him as much. I barely knew the kid before he died, and only remember him being the nicest kid you'd ever meet. I guess I just wrote this to blow off some steam. This whole incident affected everyone in our neighborhood, and nearly every kid put some kind of "R.I.P DSW" on their Myspace name.

Anyone else have any similar experiences?

That sucks, man. I have something similar to it, but it's not as if somebody died... it's just like we stopped talking (so in a way, the person is dead to ME, but not actually dead). It's really sad that this happened. Feel free to hit me up on AIM if you need to talk.

Thanks Skyler and Grey. I haven't been as active here because of it, so don't think I'm ignoring any threads I'm supposed to manage. I should be fine after the funeral. I think it's on the 25th, but I'll have to ask my cousin.

Man, that sucks pretty bad :( a friend of mine went missing like last month, he supposedly killed himself. I'm still sad about it even now, but it isn't similar except for the death part of it.

EDIT: Actually, from the article I've heard a story of someone from high school where the same thing happened just somebody in the audience got shot and killed. It was weird, only way to really describe it. it felt weird to know that people can get shot without doing things. kinda upset me a lot back then so "i decided to make it so that I'm happy every day and I wouldn't mind dying because I have in fact, loved my life up and until this point :)

A couple years ago, during my freshman year in college, one of my really good friends from high school collapsed and died for seemingly no well-explored reason. The guy was very healthy, a vegetarian, one of our class valedictorians and was attending CalTech. And it turns out he was killed by a very rare heart disorder that caused one of his major arteries to fail. I still miss him to this day.

The funeral will be tough, but you just got to remember the good times you shared. It's difficult to face your own morality, especially at this age, but I'm of the opinion that the experience makes you stronger. I send you my condolences - Dustin and his family will be in my prayers.

At first, I thought it was some sort of random title. As I saw "LOL".
My condolences man... Must hurt quite a lot. =T.
I'm kind of lucky, the worst that happened was that my friend got jumped by a gang.
Went to the hospital and only have a broken arm.

Well, what a shame.
He'll be in my thoughts...

when I'm getting trashed off my face today. Nah, not likely, but I can always hope to be a nice guy.

I'm sorry to hear that. Probably doesn't mean much from random person on the internet, but just thought I'd say it.

A friend of mine passed away last year in what was originally called a suicide, but what was later declared a potential homicide.

The funeral for a young person (or anyone who dies unexpectedly) is really hard. For older people, you can say they had a good life. For those who had terminal illnesses, you can say at least they're not in pain anymore. But for someone young and mostly healthy, a lot of people don't know how to deal with that.

After the coffin was lowered, a lot of those attending just stood around, staring listlessly. No one knew what to do. There wasn't a suicide note, no explanation, and now that it might not have been a suicide at all, there still isn't any closure because the case is cold and it doesn't look like there'll be a break any time soon (if at all).

So, in the case of your friend, it'll probably be rough, but people eventually find ways to recover. My friends are doing better these days than they were the first month, but it takes time.

Yeah, I noticed the title, and it sounded kind of kothish. My city's initials just happen to be "LoL". Only really big thing that happened here was Edward Scissorhands was filmed in my old neighborhood.

Thanks for sharing your stories, guys. The memorial's today, and I'm considering going. Maybe taking some pictures of the clubhouse where it happened.

I thought the title was a joke at first to.

Sorry man, it seems as if he was completely innocent and ended up being the one to get killed. That's really horrible.

Sorry to hear about this Straked. I sincerely hope that Dustin and all who're close to him find a sense of peace with his passing rather than grief or sadness.

Though I never knew him, Rest In Peace DSW

I'm sorry to hear about that, Straked. I really wish I knew what to say, I've never had an experience like this in my life. May your friend be remembered as a great man.

I've technically known a similar experience. On a forum I visit, there was an absolutely amazing character who acted as co-admin with two others. I consider him an inspiration - he was smart, he was friendly, he was funny beyond compare, and his intolerance for certain things belied his heart of gold. I still consider him as a standard to simply reach.
He was stabbed to death just nine months ago.
The whole community broke out in sadness. We still miss him and haven't recovered, though we still carry on partly through memory.

I didn't know Dustin, but that doesn't mean I can't care. He deserved to live.

Rest in peace, Dustin White.

I'm so sorry this happened...
It is terrible that young people have to die.
But no matter what, you have have to keep going,
and love every day of your life. There is not much else I can
say, but I want you to know that I care,

I'd really like to thank everyone that cared enough to cheer me up, and say some kind words about him. There was this giant party I just got back from up at Lake Padgett in honor of Dustin. Roughly 250 people. Me, my 2 cousins, and Dustin's older brother Devin all took his boat out and went tubing. Needless to say, we were all pretty sunburnt, me especially. It was a pretty fun day, there was a lot of food, and I think everyone felt much, much better about the whole thing.

The actual funeral's gonna be the 25th, iirc. Closed casket, of course.
