I am pretty sure Rayman's popularity is known- nothing we do now will push him to the forefront more than his original BlazedRay trophy being followed up with the ArtsyOmni fakeout.

Still, vote for him, for sure, I just know his notoriety is already established.

I'm hoping for Ubisoft we get:
Rayman as a character.
Rabbids (or Rabbit Peach) as AT.
Ezio (Assassins Creed) as DLC character.
Just Dance assist Trophy as DLC.

It would be odd, in my eyes, for Nintendo to exclude Smash as a bargaining chip in its battle to win over third parties. Two companies who have shown immense support as AAA companies are Bethesda and Ubisoft.
So for the record, I'm not against Doomguy, who I see having a decent shot due to his parent company and his impact on gaming.
Random addition, I think Squeenix may have wanted Sora in the game, resulting in us getting Cloud, Geno, and possibly KH3 (the latter being something Nintendo really should have been pushing to receive).

Well but if Rayman doesn't make it to base (or doesn't get killed by an assist trophy) we still have to show support to push him as DLC, if Sakurai were to ask us again.

Note: Also, Sora is owned by Disney rather than Square, so I think it's rather more if Sakurai wants to put Disney in Smash or not.

I understand being hopeful, but this idea is ludicrous. Sakurai asked the world once ever (and before that, it took from Melee until the ballot to ask outside of Japan at all). And even then, we got Bayonetta and four years before we got any results.

As far as I know from stuff I have read, the Ballot done in the Smash 4 era was to decide the characters from Ultimate apparently. And Bayo was in the game the whole time (ZSSamus was a sort of Place Holder for her, that is why they are so similar and even one of her victory screens mimics a Bayonetta artwork), she didn't actually won the "European Ballot", as it was actually used as an excuse to justify her inclusion.

So, yeah, you are probably right about him not asking again.

I do think this is going to be the best shot Rayman has in getting Smash. His peak in popularity was during the Ballot era all thanks to the trophies and the Omni hoax boosting his popularity. Combine this with Ubisoft being closer to Nintendo than ever before, and I think the outlook for Rayman is looking great, base game or DLC.

The poll from Smash 4 outright said it would be used for content in future games, worded to imply future Smash games and Nintendo games as a whole.
Go back and read my posts from that time. I insisted the same thing then.

Well, I did quote "If he were to" I didn't mean to say it was a guarantee that he would.
Maybe he'll do it, maybe he won't. Maybe he'll just use the first ballot for DLC as well, maybe not at all.
Regardless of the matter, I do feel like maintaining a high voice increases chances rather than not, because I'm sure Sakurai is just barely starting to think about DLC.
If Rayman is in the base game then you're right, nothing we do now will change his chances.

There's still the whole Rayman in Brawlhalla deal, though. It releasing a month before Ultimate is odd. I can think of plently of reasons why the decission of acquire this game was taken by Ubi, but I may be wrong.

Honest to God, I am not a Rayman supporter anymore (A fan, yes, but I put that on a dark corner for now, I am not inspired by him at this point), even way before Ridley got revealed.

The former certainly has more nostalgic value, but the latter would be appreciated for being such a deep cut.

Probably would give it to Rayman 1, but I wouldn’t be complaining about a reference to Arena/M.

Rayman is a character that I could take or leave at this point. I desperately want him in the game as much as everyone else does in this thread, but I think after not having him in either Brawl or Smash 4 I've come to accept that there will always be a chance he won't be in, no matter how high the chances may be looking now. My hype is still very huge for his inclusion, but I still like to keep it in check too.

I'm all for the first one (even though I've never had a chance to play the first game in the series).

But my gut tells me his victory theme may be when you beat a level in Origins/Legends

Oh I get it. Big Ridley and K. Rool fan, and it took 5 games for them to get in. But I also understand (ESPECIALLY after getting Rids and the Rool) why hyped characters like Rayman have a big chance to be in this time.

I’ll be disappointed if Rayman doesn’t make it in. But even then, with all the hard work Sakurai and his team have put into this game; bringing literally everyone back and finally putting in fan favorites people have been asking for more than a decade, it’s hard to get upset for long.

I'll admit, I'd be pretty salty for the first couple of days if Rayman got deconfirmed as an assist trophy, and a bit upset if he wasn't there at all, it's kind of inevitable to be upset if your most wanted gets shafted, you know? I still wouldn't harass Sakurai about it, cause I'm a better person than that, and I'll still purchase the game day 1. Like SegaNintendoUbisoft says, this will still be the Ultimate Smash game, with or without Rayman, like, freaking Snake is back and Ridley is here too, how can we not be grateful for that? lol

This is very much something to take note of. Heck, even if the current roster is all we have I would be more then satisfied, especially when considering how much additional side content is being added to this game (103 stages? Over 900 tracks? Jesus ****ing christ, Sakurai!). Of course, anyone will be disappointed when the character they advocate for doesn't get in (including me), but it's good to take a step back and also look at the amazing stuff Smash Bros Ultimate is already offering us.

And hey, playable in Smash or not, he is indeed still our limbless boy. The guy's had numerous mainline platformers and all of which have received critical praise and he's still a very recognisable character in Europe. I'm sure he'll live on in the hearts of many that his games have touched.

Rayman Origins and Legends are two of the smoothest platformers that I've played; those are good starting points.

The weird part is that I have played tiny little bits of Rayman 2 and Rayman Origins before. I will admit to being on the fence as of right now about the, how do I word this, lack of character in Origins? Not sure if that's the term I want but I did take notice of how Rayman and Co. tend to stick with silly animations and gesture's compared to their speaking roles and more fleshed out personalities in Rayman 2.

As for Rayman 2, I'll be honest, the combat system is not what I was expecting. Both of these points however are things I consider tiny curiosities rather than valid complaints. I think the main reason they're even there is because I've played so little of both games. And what I have played of them were with friends at their house, which may have had an impact since I have this weird thing about enjoying a new game and getting into it more when I'm able to just sit down and play it by myself.

Plus the version of Rayman 2 I've had the opportunity to try was the N64 version. And from what I hear, it's the PS2 version that's the way to go with that game.

Rayman 2 is overall a better game in terms of atmosphere, character writing, clever use of gimmicks, in my opinion. Legends and Origins are just fun, silly platforming games. I treat those 2 like I do Mario games. It doesn't need a solid story, it can just be a fun ride.

Rayman 2 is the game where they flesh out the world though. I'd say stick with it. It's cool seeing all the locales The Glade has to offer, even if some of the mechanics are a bit dated.

Dunno why, but tomorrow I'm betting it's Rayman's reveal. We shall see if my gut is correct.
