Wouldn't it be crazy if we somehow got all three of the characters as fighters? Like it turnt out its not just rayman as a fighter... but an ENTIRE DLC PACK O_O
I highly doubt it....If Sonic, a 3rd Party Vet, doesn't even get a secondary rep, then I doubt any 3rd party would, especially if that character is already a newcomer themselves...

This brings another question to mind. Will this be the only Throwback Thursday that's going to be partially covered, or will the rest will follow suit? If the later is true, then it'll probably kill our hype once again.

Lets not forget though, that this stuff is most likely "Paid" DLC... it could be very likely that Ubisoft and Nintendo came to some agreement to allow for more stuff to be put in. They have worked with each other in the past on Wii U stuff after all.. It could be some kinda profit split, or some sort of agreement to share the profits from the said DLC purchased.

This could have ESPECIALLY been sparked by the likes of the Rayman leak, where both companies got to witness first hand just how much fans want Ray in the game.. (Ubisoft was even going to make a statement on it before Artsy came out a day before it was supposed to happen, and mention it was him) what better way to take advantage on such an opportunity..

How do we know this isn't why the ballot was opened in the first place? We have all of these companies jumping in trying to get their characters in..If this is the case, Nintendo could easily be trying to set up similar hypothetical agreements... As the allure of profit could easily persuade both parties to a partnership in all of this.. as most of the characters being supported are VERY popular, and could net in a ton of profit for both parties involved.

Well, this is the only one to get this kind of treatment, so I assume that they probably won't cover anything else up. But of course, me saying that is probably going to jinx it.

Well, I guess if it can be seen in a optimistic and open mindset that maybe more than one Rayman rep could happen via DLC. But I can't help but fall back on Sakurai's rule of having 3rd party characters be special cases, where the likes of Rayman, a classic character of the 90s and icon of Ubi make more reason to have in Smash, but with the likes of Globox and Barbara (mostly her as she only got one game under her belt, and Globox has more potential to be a AT if anything...) being not as notable as Rayman himself...I can't see more than one Rayman rep at a time, even as DLC...And this would just make me question how would people react when 3 3rd party reps happen from the same series, yet the likes of Sonic, Megaman, and possibly Pacman doesn't get that treatment, from a logical point of view...

I can see what you mean. However, We are also forgetting tho the possibility of extra dlc packs emerging for the others as well. Even with Sonic and Megaman in the game, similar agreements could be made with the other companies to get more in.. (Like Tails and Knuckles to accompany Sonic, for example. (Dunno about Pac-man.. only thing I could think off on that end would be Mrs. Pacman, and she seems more like she would be clone material..)

All of this was also before the concept of such DLC was even considered for Smash as well.. Sakurai probably didn't even take any of that into account before the whole Ray leak fiasco, and... what ever Iwata and Sakurai probably talked about in that meeting they had.. where they discussed that smash ballot to begin with. It probably would have taken awhile for Sakurai to be convinced that the DLC packs could be worth it... (and the ray fans have shown it most certainly would be)

I mean, getting in smash in general is one thing, as it seems like a fairly simple matter. But in terms of Paid DLC, its an entire different ballgame.. The possibilities for agreements are much easier, since the packs would be purchased multiple times, generating profits for both parties..

Edit: Just to add to this, it also gives Nintendo to have another method of getting profit for the game, even further into it's lifetime..

Well, all I could say is that it may be a possibility if any. But I'd have to see something like that to really give it any real merit beyond disbelief, on my part. But who knows, only time will tell on the matter.

Indeed. I mean, aren't Ubisoft also supposed to be at e3 in a few months? If there is any time we would find out about some partnership between the two, it could be then.. So who knows. Its definitely a stretch, I'll give you that.

Does anyone know, what's in the top right? and in the left of Barbara, is Rayman?

Also that "brilliant" thing in the middle appears when something is hit in Rayman Legends:

Hehe, AC Ray. And I thought it was just a hit effect.

And no, I don't know who or what that is on the top right...

BTW, does anyone has the feeling that the character next to the flash might be Ray Plumber since someone pointed that the character at the top left is supposedly Glob Plumber?

I swear that this is Project Ukulele all over again.

It appears to be one of the spy toads.

Now that you mention it, I can't unsee that brown shoe, it's definitely Glob Plumber.

I don't get why people are so ridiculously petty about this sort of thing. I see it all the time with Snake, too, but in this thread, people are saying things like "if Rayman Legends had stayed Nintendo exclusive, then it might have been possible". How does that even make sense?

Even if we use the third party characters as examples, Sonic's latest major release before Brawl was completed was Sonic 06, and his latest major release before Brawl was released was Sonic Unleashed. 06 was on every platform but Nintendo consoles, and Unleashed was released on every console available, not just the Wii. Does that mean that Sonic shouldn't have been in Brawl? Of course not! That's just nonsensical!

The same could be said about Mega Man and Pac-Man, where both of their latest releases were multi-platform. (and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, generally seen as the best Pac-Man game in years, never came to Nintendo systems) Does that mean that those characters should be cut because they aren't "loyal" enough?

Nintendo doesn't seem to choose these characters out of some vaguely defined sense of "loyalty" - Snake, Sonic, Pac-Man, Mega Man, and Rayman are all among the biggest characters that some of the most prominent third party companies have to offer, and I wish people would see that instead of making up some vague criteria to keep certain characters out.

Well, looks like the picture was just a clever way to say "support Rayman" after all.
In that case, support Rayman!

"I used to frequent SmashBoards back in the speculation days, and there was this user who headed the art section of the Ridley thread. Besides Purple Space Dragon, she adored Rayman as her second most-wanted, and would constantly make artwork and gifs of them.

I feel so horrible about her now."
IS THIS GUY TALKING ABOUT ANDREA?
It's from the Reddit article about Rayman.
