Just because the creator tells you they're not ACTUALLY children doesn't change that they basically drew a 14-year-old looking girl in a heavily sexualized outfit. This raises several red flags and quite frankly makes me feel REALLY uncomfortable. For good reason.

I'm a huge Pokemon nerd. also I know this is really cheesy but most of my B's are characters my IRL friends want (I didn't want Incineroar that much at first (even as a huge Pokemon fan) but when I was like "hey! literally all my IRL friends chose Litten when they played gen 7..." and then I slowly warmed up to Incineroar up until confirmation (even though seeing him at first did deconfirm the Grinch leak which was a real bummer but I put all my hate on Piranha Plant instead lol))

Of course you cannot judge an entire industry for it. In places, it's only one aspect of an otherwise fine show. It's a very case-by-case type of deal.
There exists however a whole an otaku subculture that just loves to beat it to little girls. Stuff like this is profitable and people commonly forget about morals once cash is involved. Part of the anime industry is deliberately trying to move away from such standards and wants to express itself as a storytelling medium and artform.
Unfortunately, the anime industry is very problematic in numerous ways, from cases like these, to the way they treat animators, etc. But that's really a discussion for another place. I didn't mean to derail the topic at hand here.

D: Midna - Meh, feel she is more some people's waifu than really needed.

B: Gengar - I love Gengar. Not happening and probably shouldn't though.
C: Sceptile - Back acne pimple seed pods.
B: Gardevoir - She could be interesting.
C: Zoroark - Meh. He never really took off in the Pokemon fandom.
C: Decidueye - Meh. We have Pit for flying archer.
C: Lycanroc - Meh. Kind of boring design.
B: Mimikyu - I like Mimikyu, though not sure I feel he is needed since we got fire kitty.
F: Ninten - Three similar looking kids using the same moves? Why do people want this yet complain about Marths?
D: Black Shadow - Feel he only gets around as the adopter of Ganondorf's moveset.
F: Samurai Goroh - Ugly and bleh.
C: Lyn - No connection.
A: Black Knight - He's help cement Ike on the roster so people would stop talking about cutting him! Pretty cool character.
A: Medusa - I'd love a female baddie.
A: Shadow - I like the Edgehog.
B: Knuckles - I also like the original rival.
C: Elma - She looks interesting, no connection though.
D: Rex & Pyra - Their outfits are eww.
C: Octoling - Could be cool with the different styles. But meh.
C: Issac - I think his move set could be awesome, but I feel his visuals are very bland and generic.
C: Chorus Kids - No connection.
F: Karate Joe - No connection and uglier.
A: Takamaru - I want to see Samus, Link, Pit, and Takamaru together.
C: Excitbiker - Meh.
C: Mach Rider - Meh.

While on paper that sounds amazing. If that happened the balancing would be impossible to do, development for the DLC to even reach that amount of characters would take damn near 10 years to do, moveset potential would become extremely strained/stretched to it's limits we'd run into the problem where every newcomer wouldn't feel unique because at some point all the possible moves will start to blend together with other characters, also I hate for Smash to basically turn into Mugen where literally anything and everything can be a possible character. Also I don't want to have to use a magnifying glass or telescope/mircoscope to find a character on the character select screen.
