Let's Go Goroh!
HUZZAH!! I was awaiting this day for so long... and now it's finally here!
As you can see by my sig, I am a strong supporter of Goroh. If it was a question of how much I support a character personally for Brawl, it would probably be 100%- or even more, if you want to be irrational. ^_^ Goroh is my #1, Numero Uno choice for a character for Brawl- for an F-Zero rep and in general. Too bad the support of one person doesn't equal actual chances...
Well, what does Goroh-domo have in his favor? Let's take a look...
Reputation:
Well, it might not rank up there with Mario, Zelda, or Poke'mon, but F-Zero is definitely one of Nintendo's most famous series. And yet, how many characters did we have to represent the series in SSB and SSBM? One, in the form of Captain Falcon. Not that that's a bad thing, but think about it- if Samurai Goroh had been one of the characters in question for Melee HYPOTHETICALLY, who do you think would've been given a slot in the roster- Dr. Mario, Mr. Game & Watch, or Samurai Goroh? Now that there's been a possible 40-character roster with 15-18 openings (depending on the characters removed), shouldn't Samurai get one of those slots as a second F-Zero rep?
Connections:
So, how does Samurai Goroh contribute to F-Zero's major plotline and protagonist? He was one of the first four drivers, and has close ties to Captain Falcon, the protagonist, as his greatest rival and one of the villains. He has also appeared in every F-Zero game except for only one. But you know what? Captain Falcon was excluded from the exact same game as well. Someone had commented previously that he was simply the "Wario" to Captain Falcon's "Mario". Well hey, Wario's gonna be in Brawl, ain't he? That makes me hopeful.

You know what? I also believe that if Captain Falcon gets confirmed in the next trailer (if they make one... *crosses fingers*), they might just confirm Samurai Goroh alongside him.
Popularity/Fame/Recognizability
Samurai has indeed been mentioned once or twice on the Toukoken. And among the F-Zero characters' popularity/fame/recognizability, he's probably the second most recognizable character, only after Captain Falcon, of course.
Warrior Skills
If we had merely taken a look back in 1991 at the descriptions of the four original F-Zero pilots, without any knowledge of who was the actual star of the series, for some sort of fighting game that would debut 7-8 years later, who do you think we might have chosen? Pico, a gunman, or Samurai Goroh, a swordsman, would be my guess.
Now fast-forward to 2003. Now we're fully educated as to who the star is and we've got information on about 40 other pilots as well. Now we know that Captain Falcon is the star, and the characters with the closest links to him are Samurai Goroh, Blood Falcon, Black Shadow, and Jody Summers. If you watch some of the movies for F-Zero GX's Story Mode/victory mini-movies, you'll see that Samurai Goroh has been shown wielding his sword several times. Black Shadow, who is now the series' major villain, has been shown fighting Falcon with some sort of "plasma energy field stuff". In one scene. Blood Falcon... puts a bomb on his car. And Jody Summers... meh, she just gets captured or put in danger by Black Shadow all the time, even though she works for the Galactic Space Federation. We've known about Samurai Goroh and his swordsmanship for... 12 years now. Who do you think has more experience with weaponry?
Cases in point:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1Q4jPjNztI Also features a possible rolling dodge technique. ;P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5ZmXhHnf-Q Okay, sort of a 'wtf' movie, but it's clear he has mastery of the blade.
Unfortunately, I can't find a clip for the Dai Goroh movie (heehee, Samurai's got a kid before Falcon does), but it features Samurai demonstrating his skills as a swordsman to his son.
Contributions:
So, what would Samurai Goroh bring to the pot luck dinner of Brawl? He'd be an additional heavyweight fighter, another swordsman, another villain, and another F-Zero rep. And we're kinda short in each of these categories, although "villain" isn't really that big of a deal. Depending on if Ganondorf returns and/or how he is Luigified, Goroh might also be our first heavyweight swordsman, as most of them have been pretty lightweight and nimble before him. Considering how heavily muscled he is, he could probably also be given a semi-fist-fighting moveset to accompany his swordfighting, if pure swordsmanship seems too "commonplace" for some of you.
Miscellaneous:
Okay, some of the stupider reasons go here! First of all, there was the Nintendo "teaser" thing in the trailer for Melee. And the fact he was a trophy.
One other thing I thought was nifty is I had a dream about him being in Brawl. I don't know how many of you have ever played Starfox Adventures, but he was on the Darkice Mines level (funny how it's called DarkICE when there's lava everywhere) in some sort of black leather costume, fighting against the Blue team of Captain Falcon, Zamus, and Marth.
As for my defense against the "anti-Goroh" reasoners:
Someone a few pages back commented about how we don't need rep for F-Zero because it's such a "minor series". Y'know, the really "big" franchises are Mario, Zelda, and PKMN. Kirby, Metroid, Starfox, and F-Zero are more like Nintendo's "semi-major" series. Yet a new Kirby character has been confirmed, a new character from the Kirby series has been highly suggested (Dedede), and people have also suggested new characters for Metroid (Ridley is most popular, while Dark Samus is second) and Starfox (Wolf and Krystal). So hey, why can't F-Zero share in some glory?
And speaking of "minor series"- as I said before, while F-Zero isn't exactly a major seller like Mario or Zelda, it isn't exactly a minor franchise either. I like to think of it as "semi-major", sort of like Metroid and Starfox. So if the minor/semi-major franchises supposedly don't deserve rep, are we going to give it all away to the major franchise's characters? After we got 5 (6 counting Yoshi) Mario characters, 4 Zelda characters, and 4 from Poke'mon? Remember, we're kinda running low on major characters available for those franchises. Do we want to give more rep to the major franchises or do we want to share some love with the semi-majors, who only got 1-2 reps for Melee?
Put it this way- who would probably be the best character for Brawl if it came down to Princess Daisy, Dark Link, or Samurai Goroh-sama for a roster spot?
As my friend hemightbegiant would put it:
"Remember kiddies, a major character from a minor (or in this case, semi-major

) series > a minor character from a major series.
He's also one of those characters that a person would have a gut instinct about... and my gut is telling me Goroh. (It's also told me King Dedede, Diddy Kong, Krystal, and "Go for the Klondike bars!")
All in all, I give Samurai Goroh a very healthy 85% for Brawl.
PS: I hope a shortened version of this would be his victory theme song:
