Quite an epic track I must say. The singing fits in with the instruments and genre perfectly.

8/10

There's some Scooby-Doo characters talking near the end of the video, so just disregard that. The song itself ends at 2:14.

It's kinda 60's ish. I like it :p

Apparently, this is synthwave. It's 80's-esque.

All the backing, percussion, and instrumentation could have been made and looped in a few minutes, got rather annoying and droning like a sequencer repeating. That can work sometimes, but it wasn't excellent enough or mastered well enough for me to ignore it (also sounds like default FL Studio instruments). I did like the Vocals and melodies, but it's a bit weird that they just straight up stole a hook melody and lyrics from a very popular song.

Here's an example of a song that has a pretty simple backing track quite similar throughout (does have a lot more flourish and variations here and there). It works for me I guess because it's not as overbearing, it's mastered well, and the main lyrics and melody overcome it's minimalism IMO.

6.5/10 - Sounds way too poppy for my personal tastes, but the backing track is OK and the singer's execution is pretty good as well. My favorite part of the song was actually at 3:00 where most of the backing track faded out and it was just the bass with some synth accents, which really helped bring out the lead singer's vocal strengths. Also, the vocal effect introduced at 3:12 was pretty cool.

I woulda put up the live version of this because Baird is a better while singing to a live crowd than he is singing inside of a soundproof box, but the 1989 audio was poorly balanced and the audio quality left much to be desired.

EDIT: I'll leave you the choice; great vocals or audio quality

7/10.

Was never too much of a fan of music like this, but I can see the appeal. Soft Rock's definitely nice at times, though, but it really just isn't my style.

So I honestly don't listen to regular music too often. I much prefer Video Game music.
There are some remixes out there that just happen to be regular music remixes on Video Game music.
TheOneUps are the best at this when it comes to that sort of stuff.
Here's a track based off DKC's "Ice Cave Chant" they did.

Ugh....man no one has replied yet I guess I will

Maybe I'm not in the mood but this kind of lackadaisical jazz lounge treatment kinda killed anything there was to like about the original. I feel the same way about how most Musical Theater can kill the authenticity and atmosphere of songs.

I like a few of the One-Ups remixes, but I'd have to give this one a 5.5/10

I dunno what to say about it. I like it, but it's not something I'd listen to regularly. The video was quite entertaining.
Uh... damn. I wish I could say something actually constructive.

I like that one much more - 7/10, still not a song I'd listen to outside this thread but the instrumentation was better and it was polished.

I think you might dig this song Smudges Smudges

5/10 - The singer sounded too bubblegum poppy, the backing track was OK for the little bit but got super repetitive around halfway through the song, and the backing vocals sound like that came out of Alvin and the Chipmunks. I looked to the lyrics for redeeming factors, but the lyrics are three 3-line stanzas that talk about the very shallow love story that takes place throughout this song, and the rest is completely pointless filler:

"Can I be your partner, can I be your friend?
Playin' like a part and left me there for dead,
conversations fly over my head."

'Cause what I got, what I got,
what we got, what we got

What we got, What we got is real
What we got, What we got is real

"Too many partners, running out of space
but little do you know I'm harder to replace
'cause slow and steady always wins the race"

'Cause what I got, what I got,
what we got, what we got

What we got, What we got is real
What we got, What we got is real

"Now there's only me myself and you
fighting off the demons and their hooves
a fellowship that's only fit for two"

'Cause what I got, what I got,
what we got, what we got

What we got, What we got is real
What we got, What we got is real

What I got, What I got,
What we got, What we got

What we got, What we got is real
What we got, What we got is real
What we got, What we got is real
What we got, What we got is real

What we got, What we got is real
What we got, What we got is real

Lastly, the title reminded me of Ms. Jackson by OutKast ("I'm sorry Ms. Jackson, I am for real",) so I was constantly wishing that I was listening to that instead. I would post that to review, but can't because I already did forever ago. Also, this song seems to be mistagged as Disco, so I'll post some real disco to compensate:

It's easy to see why Stayin' Alive is probably the most important and iconic songs to the Disco genre, I acknowledge that but...

I absolutely can't stand that song, it's like a cat being sat upon is singing and harmonizing with other cats that are being sat on. The Bee Gees heavily falsettos stuff I've never liked because is sounds very unimpressive and amateur to me (even annoying at times).

4/10

Also what's up with the lead wearing half a jacket in the intro; made me chuckle, but not as much as I chuckled at this song. This masterpiece of the hip hops...I DEEEEEEED it

Not a brass band fan, but it sounded good for the style, and sorta reminded me of a horn-y (hehe) Dave Mathews Band.

7.25/10 - It was calming, the background instruments were appropriate, vocalist was OK (although his voice was a bit too rough for my taste), and it was all fine other than the fact that it's like 6 and a half minutes with very little variation. The plot twist at the end was pretty interesting, though; I didn't anticipate Matilda being a serial killer.

Anyways, I just remembered that this song exists:

Sorta reminded me of Stevie Nicks, Edge of 17.

Following the trend of raspy voices...

P.S.
I'm sorry (or you're welcome, depending on the listener's thoughts) for the length

I don't mind it, but it's definitely not something I'd listen to usually. It also is quite long, although that isn't really off-putting for me.

8.25/10 - I think that may be one of the best techno songs I've ever heard. It lost my interest a little bit in the last fourth or so of the song, but it was still great.

I know no one probably cares but this is definitely not Techno, not even close. I don't think anyone's posted any Techno at all in here yet, it's a specific form of EDM that is very minimalistic and percussive. It's basically the Jazz of EDM and started in Detroit. I'm a fan of EDM and I really don't even like the genre I would wager to guess you would like it even less.

It's bizarre and I don't know where it started but years ago people started using "Techno" to mean "any EDM sounding song", that's sort of like calling all main stream "Rock" songs "Death Metal" or something.

Personally I'd be hesitant to even categorize it under the broad spectrum of EDM since it's more like Prog Rock and New Wave fused together (which is why you liked it I'm guessing). But it is laid over a house/trance beat so I guess it could be. Reminded me of Keygen music or like a remastered MS DOS tune.

Sorry got carried away there, but Music genres fascinate me.

[I'll rate your song if someone doesn't by end of day]

Yeah, it's a Rock/NewWave deal, with a house beat. Spot on :p

I felt kinda "Meh" about the song when I listened to it yesterday (that's why I didn't rate it), I liked the solos a lot but the song overall just sounds like 100s of other songs in this exact genre and the lyrics didn't really stand out for me.

6/10

6.75/10 - It's very repetitive, but it succeeds at being a cheery, relaxing song. It doesn't really stick with me after listening to it and doesn't do anything really impressive, but I'd listen to it again if I were relaxing in a hammock on a cool summer night.

I feel like I've heard this song in this thread and I told this story but I'm very unsure -

My brother for the longest time thought this song was "Ladies go crazy for a Shot Glass Man"
I asked him to explain how that makes any sense, he said "You know cause they were getting alcohol from this guy, duh"

I like this song a bit less than La Grange but it still rocks 8/10

Michael Bolton's voice was made for this song. It's amazing, but then again I'm super biased cause I loved Hercules.

8.75/10 - I'm also very biased about this song because this was one of the three songs we played at Disney World when our marching band went last year. That trip is one of the best experienced I've ever had, and I'll hold those memories close for a long, long time. Makes me kinda sad that I'll be graduated in 5 days and probably won't see most of my closest friends for a long time after I move into college in a few months, but I'm excited for what's in store for me at college..

Anyways, the performance was amazing and I have very little to complain about there. I was actually debating posting Sharp Dressed Man, La Grange, or Cheap Sunglasses, but I decided on Sharp Dressed Man.

Yea someone had posted La Grange a while back and I reviewed it IIRC.

Ah man I miss my days in Varsity Drumline and Jazz Band. The charter buses to away games/competitions and the yearly Band trip I looked forward to it all so much. I lived in SA during that time and our Snareline got to go on stage and perform with Shania Twain. I was not a fan at all but it was still such a surreal experience getting to meet and perform with her. We only got one dress rehearsal, I barely remember being on stage in front of the sea of people. Totally went on auto pilot and somehow I played everything perfectly along with everyone else (we didn't get in-ears or anything :/ ) Playing at Disney World sounds amazing, that would have been more up my alley.

Anyways Just keep on pursuing and playing music in whatever form you can accommodate. And keep in touch with as many people as you can. HS and Band friends are irreplaceable, I'm glad I made the effort to keep in touch with so many.

I liked the KoF track, I know it's BGM but I still thought it got repetitive after a short while. Good production and instrumentation 6.5/10. Not something I'd buy, and not as memorable as an SF theme but still a good jam to fight to (reminded me of when they remix Castlevania songs).

7/10 - It's a classic song from a revolutionary rap group and I think it's pretty good, but like a lot of rap songs, they sampled the backing track rather than creating something original for their own stuff. -1 for that.

NotALaughingMatter/VoteForMeBecauseI'mAWoman - Fun fact: from 2001-2008, Hillary gave women who worked for her 72% of what she gave men of equal jobs. She says she's all for women's rights, but failed to demonstrate that in her own environment.

Idk, I'm starting to like this kind of music. I used to not, but...
I like this one a lot, actually.

This one's kinda short, but I think it's a pretty cool intro. Sounds like something out of a movie.
Can I just say I love the album art?
Edit: Hue, this is kinda petty, but it sounds much better on FLAC with nice headphones :p

6/10 - I wanted to give someone with more appreciation for electro-ish music a chance to rate this one, and then I had to go to college orientation, and then I had to get wisdom teeth removed and forgot all about this thread, and then I remembered and decided it's been long enough. Don't love it and think it's pretty boring until around the 1:00 mark, but then I was disgusted by the synth drum sound and it gets boring again near the end. Not bad, but not good either.

Mecca is an interesting project. It has a lot of old Toto members, some younger musicians, and pretty much no attainable information. They have made two albums in the past 14 years, and I've found one site that claims they have an album to be released in 2016 with the title "III" and some album art. I can't find any info on this album anywhere else and the newest info the actual band has put online is on a MySpace account that hasn't been updated since '09, so I guess I'll find out if the source is reliable by the start of 2017 lol.

EDIT: Never mind, I found it:

http://heavyharmonies.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=33033

EDIT 2: Their band website link is broken... Facebook seems to be working though.

EDIT 3: Decided to change songs from "Wishing Well" to "Without You", as it's probably a better into to the band.

7/10 This seems like something I'd enjoy more once I listen to it a few times.
This is probably one of the weaker Hamilton songs, but I figured I should start with it.

7.5/10 - I agree that it's one of the weaker Hamilton songs since it's mostly background information rather than character development and interactions, but it's still great. Hamilton is such a new and creative concept for modernizing musicals, and it's worked amazingly.

^It's kinda hard for me to say much about this because it's not a type of music I usually enjoy, but I definitely respect what it's going for and it seems to do it quite well. (No rating because numerical ratings are hard)
