Hmm i think this rule would be much better if you could just choose 2 characters to stick to. The use of a strong secondary is usually to cover a number of matchups (generally similiar in nature) in which your main is weak to or you have personal problem with. Just a thought...doesnt affect me anyhow.

Im keen for a bit of Melee tomorrow if anyone is interested, could possibly host a couple of people.

I don't really agree with limiting people to 1 character main per tournament with another only for hard counters.

It's good to keep the variety. QLD brawl scene is small enough as it is so if everyone had to stick to 1 character, than we'll have limited experience against most of the cast.

I think it's good that matt has 3 mains, helps other people learn match-ups. I'll pretty much be whipping out diddy, ganondorf and hopefully pikachu when i learn how to play him. If i make next lansmash i'll probs use diddy and GANONDORF. Chris, i know you lurk. Give me pikachu lessons.

The proposition I had was that we play as we always have, but if you play MK, you play him from match 1 to match 3.

This means no swapping to MK to counter characters in match 2 if you lose. (every character in the cast has a counter outside of MK, so this shouldn't be an issue). This will eleviate the pain for those who wish to play chars like D3 (who I neglect now because of MK) to allow them to play them safely as long as the person you are vs-ing doesn't start on MK. It also takes away poket MK's going lololol I win.

Keep variety as now no one runs the risk of playing an MK second round
MK mains still get to play MK and move off MK if they are struggling with a match-up
Promotes people to get better at their characters, and not just the high tiers.
Stops pocket MK's tornadoing over chars like DK, D3 etc and keeps it competitive.

Play him from start to finish, or don't play him at all. Anyone agree or disagree?

I agree with matt's proposition coz even though i've only been playing smash competitively lately, i still find it annoying how other people keep counter picking the character you have chosen to play the match with. but at the same time it will be really annoying being only limited to 1 character.

Eliminating mk isn't a good option. Alienates mk players and nobody will get practice against him. I think I like Matt's all or nothing proposition, but I'd like to talk about it a bit more. The thing I like about it is that it stays concurrent with the theme I want which is to encourage people to stick to their guns.

I agree with Vyse too, getting rid of MK in only QLD will leave us with little to no practice against the top character in the metagame. (Banning him completely will also make me stop playing fox as much lol). Although it might be the trigger that starts ideas moving in other states, I am more directed towards something like, 'a month without MK'. Something that will be taken up by Australia to see how everyone competes without the character who has no weakness and can stall almost infinitely for just one month of the year.

Without MK, the top tier of characters will expand, which again will promote a wider variety of players using different mains that can all compete at a similar level. However it is not viable if we are the only one who do it, and get trounced even worse than we do already when top players and top characters come in from oos.

i was just talking about one tournament. have a tournament without metaknight, see how well it goes, THEN you can build on the idea of keeping metaknights to metaknight-mains-only.

Oh well. I guess he's just.. Different
Alienates mk players....

Name one person who is playing him because he likes the character and not because he is lolollololol

I like the ONE tournament ban idea. Its just a test. Hell it might even make brawl finals interesting.... But that's stretching it

why hasn't competitive brawl adopted a pokemon style tournament adaptation yet? have MK (or top 3 or whatevs) banned tournies, MK allowed tournies, and low-mid tier and down tournies. that way all characters are more often used and there will be at least two different metagames running around (the one that has mk in and the one that doesn't).

@Moose: Plenty of people main MK, including atleast 3 or 4 in QLD, and the considered 'at the moment' best player in Australia also mains MK. I'm pretty sure they play MK not just for the lol's. Even though the character is broken, the top end of players still have to be very good with him to succeed.

@Pantsmann: Nothing like that has been adopted because a lot of people argue that he isn't an overwhelming threat in Australia. Other parts of the world have banned MK however.

Edit: There is nothing I would like more than to see a complete MK ban in Australia, but it will more than likely never happen.

I'm pretty sure MK isn't banned in other parts of the world... Sure they've had a couple of MK banned tournies but he's not banned indefinitely.

No one should be losing to pocket MK's regardless of their character choice.. if you do you are bad and deserve to lose.
No one in QLD plays MK... name a MK main that still plays
Not using D3 because of MK is stupid when he has worser or equal matchups anyway... once again no one plays MK

@Ben
Could be, ill let you know.

Dif, the problem is time.

Moose, top tier matches excite me. Maybe I'm different. I see sentinel and am happy to be alive.

Birds, arrow says hi. But you are right.

do alternating tournaments? one tournament is MK allowed, next is MK banned, next Mk allowed etc etc

i'm just throwing out ideas here. it's just i see people complaining about mk all the time and these ideas pop into my head and i wonder why they're not already in place (because there must be some reason).

There's only 3 people in QLD that play MK... Jbirds(Pocket), Kaion(Pocket) and Rocko(main). Stop crying about MK cause you're bad, you'll have to learn to deal with it. You don't see me losing to any pocket MK's >_>

Actually I don't complain about him at all and enjoy playing good MKs. I enjoy facing players like Rocko who play him right.

Complaining about something shouldn't equate to banning something in terms of competitiveness, but can in terms of enjoyment.

Anyway, let's get off this track. I'll make a decision and we'll go with it. I like the idea of people going all MK or all nothing. We should have more MK mains. I might even try going all MK for a tournament, although I like my chances with Marth better.

Just going to jump in and say something not relevant to the current thread, I noticed that AutumnSmash happens to be on the same weekend as Supanova. Bummer.

So sick of being part of QLD smash. Not even going to bother arguing with people. Dw about the MK thing Vyse, just keep it how it is.

Edit: Blade I'll team with you again at the next smash tourney. You and Sea can just rock, paper, scissors for a lvl 9 computer when we come up against each other like what was going to happen last time :)

Yeh team with blade matt, i probs won't make autumnsmash. If I do end up going i'll just ***** myself to anyone in teams.

Your character lacking power for doubles? Look no further. My ganondorf has infinite power and I will clock and stomp everyone that dares to question our power.

Ganondorf is an excellent team choice. He works well with fast ***** characters (most of the cast)

Sounds goood. Unless Jbirds wants to team.

Hey Vyse, keep note:

"Sunday we've lowered the price to $10 a day. The reason for this is that we're also changing packup time to 6pm instead of 9pm. Three hours difference, but we figured Sunday nights things were becoming a little sparse."

Better keep dat Melee in time.
