Bad news for us. Since Japan's Smash U update accidentally leaked Classic mode gameplay trailers for Ryu and Roy, it's looking more and more like the Smash Direct will focus only on Lucas and the aforementioned two characters. Meaning that if that's the case, our first four DLC characters are (in probable order) Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, and Ryu, and if five are all we're getting... eesh. Lip's in trouble. : (

What do you guys want to do? Because if five's the limit, there's absolutely no way poor Lippy is even going to have a ghost of a chance against juggernauts like K. Rool or Isaac. No chance. It was never in the cards.

(Gosh, I'm starting to feel like an idiot for even thinking we could ever pull something together.)

Five is definitely not the limit. Roy, Ryu and Lucas will likely be available after the Smash Direct ends, and are we going to wait more that 6 months for just one character (the ballot winner)? Seems very unrealistic.

Heck, I'd say it's possible that we have more pre-ballot DLC planned, and we'll see them before the ballot closes.

Half-@$$ed is the word, really. Three returning newcomers with entirely unchanged movesets aside from their Final Smash, and the one who isn't is probably a direct model rip from Street Fighter IV anyhow so that's half their work done for them (and he will have a moveset that consists of something like B - Hadouken, Side+B - Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku, Up+B - Shoryuken, Final Smash - Shinku Hadouken, mark my words. That's like, one move that isn't completely predictable).

I wouldn't mind Lip not having any custom moves. I just want Lip, period. What I want is just to see Nintendo bring the fairy characters back, just to let us know they haven't completely forsaken us yet. But I'm an idiot enough for wanting Lip in SSB4 DLC. When it comes to Nint£ndo, anything regarding Lip or Panel de Pon is and will always be too much to ask. We're second class citizens among video game fans.

If there's one thing I've learned from this ordeal it's that Sakurai lies like a mofo. "Namco won't get any special consideration for a character!" but then we get Pac-Man. "Fighting game characters will never be in Smash Bros.!" but then we get Ryu. "I love Panel de Pon!" but he sure ain't showing it, especially with the nepotism surrounding Uprising. Word of advice: never trust anything he says unless there's concrete evidence it's true.

I know you're talking about the placeholders, but if Brawl is any indication, it's possible to add more characters than there are placeholders for. Brawl's CSS was designed to hold 50 icons when that many characters were never planned at any stage in development.

And Nintendo is pretty much pumping out as DLC as they can. Those five placeholders will not be a barrier, trust me, especially in this era of patches. If a train wreck like Sonic Boom can be patched to hell and back with a 1 GB update, this is comparatively minor.

With Ryu and Roy both near-officially confirmed and the possibility (not the certainty) of five slots hanging over our heads, we really don't have much choice if we want Lip in as DLC except to kick Operation Lip into full swing.

I went ahead and posted my Composite Moveset for Lip on F Yeah Panel de Pon. It ain't much, but until we can get some more publicity going, it's something. Anyone want to try their hand at sketching up a moveset image for this? (It was discussed earlier in the thread, but as far as I know, nothing came of it.)

Will you please calm down, there is no way there are only going to be five DLC characters. The ballot's not even halfway close to its end, and four DLC characters have already been announced.

Today's leaks mean that Nintendo is ALREADY working on characters, since we're not even halfway to the ballot's end date, so that means it's not even close to being the final roster. If you consider the fact that Nintendo is adding characters both BEFORE and AFTER the end of the ballot, that means they're planning to do a CRAPLOAD of characters, way more than just six. Mario Kart 8 also confirms that they're willing to splurge on tons of new content for their existing games. Creating 16 new full-fledged race tracks is not cheap or easy to do, which means they are committed to adding substantial amounts of content.

If anything you should be excited because of this. It means Lip has a better chance than she's ever had.

My initial posts on the matter were largely my inner pessimist talking. Eventually I started looking at it the way you said. Just because a certain bit of DLC seems like it'll be the last one doesn't mean it's going to be. After all, hackers just recently found residual data for Kamek in Mario Kart 8... Anything's possible.

(I'm still not trusting Sakurai any further than I can throw him.)

Actually I think Ryu has one of the more interesting movesets in Smash.

First of all his model isn't ripped from SF4, it looks NOTHING like his SF4 model. Secondly a bunch of new data indicates that Ryu will have a super meter mechanic, which he will be able to spend on enhanced versions of his special moves and even a super fireball.

His Final Smash is set to be the Shin Shoryuken, as a trophy has been discovered depicting him doing it (complete with the flashy KO background from whenever you defeat someone with a super in the SF games), which lends further evidence to the notion that he will have a super meter, since he has voice clips for two supers.

My sister has a Tumblr blog. I could try seeing if she'd give FYPDP some free advertising - although I'm not sure how many followers she has, or how many of them would be interested in Panel de Pon in the first place, but it's worth a shot. Better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all!

Here's to hopin' we'll get more out of SSB this year. Fortunately, the density of SSB4 DLC is good news, in a sense - four new characters either released or announced in the first half of the year alone. I hope this will bode well!

Like I brought up earlier, people have uncovered unused data for Kamek in Mario Kart 8. I bet you anything it's part of a new set of DLC that will either be revealed at E3 or will be revealed in the months to come. No reason to assume that just because 12 cups are all that will fit on-screen for now, they won't make any more.

I think there should be "less talking, more doing". It's okay to organize a fan movement, but I think if you do, you should practice what you preach. Instead of simply telling others to draw pro-DLC Lip fanart, or to spread the campaign pictures around as much as we can, let's all do it together (and show proof we did!).

It's good to see that we are actually inspiring others to reach further lengths for character support and I myself really want Lip in the game. The fact that @Denoxkun said that he might make more videos about these obscure characters due to his new job makes me wonder if he might possibly target characters like Tamagon or Lip next.

It'd be especially great if we could get Lip Smashified too, either before or during production of the video, so we'd have more fuel for the fire so to speak. We need to convince people why voting for her is a good idea and why she'd make a good character, and the more material, the better.

Thoughts on what this could mean for Panel de Pon? (Possibly under a different title? Lip's Puzzle League? Popples Puzzle League? Pixie Puzzle League? ehh?) It would sidestep the whole "Tetris" name issue that's keeping them from rereleasing Tetris Attack, at least.

What that could mean? Nothing. MOTHER 1 already had a complete official translation and Earthbound has been made available on the Wii U as well, so it's clear they are giving that franchise a second chance in the west (or first chance in Europe). The fact that Ness and Lucas are both in Smash sure helps, too. Lucas even heavily advertised on account of being DLC.

None of that could be said about Panel de Pon.

Neither was Murasame Castle and that didn't stop it from being bought to the West. Even Panel de Pon AND Famicom Tantei Club had way more games than it and Nintendo somehow felt it was worthy enough for a quick buck.

Either it's because the game being a "Zelda clone" would be an easy way for fans to be interested or Nintendo probably have more plans for IP in the future.

The chances of Panel De Pon being translated and released in the West is slim, but not impossible since Nintendo has been releasing Japan only games to the West, Earthbound Beginnings and Takamaru's Game.
