Puzzle League/Panel De Pon General (Former SSB4 Lip Support Thread)

This just got me curious, what if Panel De Pon (Puzzle League) is a part of Nintendo's World Championships this year? What chances do you think it'll be one of the games? I mean, if they're looking to do variety in the genres for the games they're going to have there they should at least have one puzzle game. They're very likely to have retro games there because Reggie was playing them in the trailer.

Eh... my money's on Pushmo if anything, since they just announced a new free-with-microtransactions game, but I'm a pessimist like that sometimes.

\Would the consensus agree that if I can set something up for a new character support image/move set image, that this move set is the one I should forward to my friend?

I would have zero problem with this. If we could make a moveset image and get Lip Smashified on top of that, that would drum up a ton of support for her!

It seems a new Nintendo Direct will be coming soon. Just once I wish they'd surprise me and announce a new Panel de Pon game, maybe even with its own amiibo line. Just once. Of course, judging from past behavior, I know it'll only be the big IPs, Splatoon, Code Name: FLAVOR.OF.THE.MONTH, and maybe the new Star Fox and/or Fire Emblem if we're lucky. (Please prove me wrong!)

Why do you hate Code Name STEAM. For once Nintendo is trying to make new IPs and you bash them. I've never played the game (and honestly am not that interested) but I still support it. They aren't going to announce a new Code Name STEAM, its not like Pokemon or Mario being at every E3.

I don't hate CN:S. I'm just disinterested. It feels like a blatant cash-in on the steampunk fad.

I like that Nintendo is trying out new IPs - and let's be honest, some of them are great ideas, otherwise I wouldn't be planning on getting Splatoon - but it feels like recently, they've only been putting out their A-list titles and those new IPs. It seems to go Mario-new IP-Pokémon-new IP-Zelda-new IP-Mario-new IP-Kirby-new IP-repeat. They haven't exactly forgotten their older stuff like F-Zero or, well, Panel de Pon, but it sure feels that way. We've gone far too long without a new game from either series.

I sorta keep thinking that either the IPs that are in dormancy aren't just enough to make the companies behind those (the second party IPs) be funded for something that majority of people might pass, and would only pander to the niche fanbase, OR the developers behind don't know how to make them be marketable in an exciting fashion. This is how business works, anyway.

Also, if someone became to love CN:S, but then it'd fall into dormancy like F-Zero or those did, that'd be quite. It'd be ideal to support the new IPs while one can (at least by giving them a try) before Nintendo might deem them being not enough of a success in the market.

Eh, I'm not really a fan of the aesthetics of Steam either. Or much about the game, it's like some kind of combination of a turn based RPG and a shooter, neither of which I'm particularly fond of. Not to mention the randomness of the game. Lincoln?

But this isn't the thread for that. Even though IS shouldn't be wasting their time with Steam and make Panel de Pon already.

Well, I just wanted to inform you guyz about Lip and her upcoming round in the "Rate their chances DLC Edition" game thread. It will be tomorrow. I think I was the very 1st one to nominate her for a round (and Ashley too) BUT, unlike Ashley, she gained alot of support and earned many more nominations since that day! Happy happy~

I dont know if you guys play this game, but it's super easy and will be a great way for you to show your support & love for her! Becuz not only can you rate her chance to be in, you can say the percentage of how much you want her in!
I hope to see some of your posts there, cuz I wanna here what y'all have to say about her ^_^

Yeah, I rated Lip. I mainly wanted to see the Want rating, I know she won't get a high Chance (I at the very least gave her a higher chance than I'd give any third-parties).


As far as Panel de Pon goes, the main issue I have is; IS can EASILY create a new Panel de Pon/Puzzle League game with not too much effort, and even if it doesn't make much, it won't hurt them much, either. Panel de Pon is a relatively small game. Unless they try and give the game like 3D backgrounds or whatever, there's not much difficulty in creating a new game in the franchise.


Honestly, I really want to see something like Yoshi's Island vs. Panel de Pon (Yoshi's Island vs. Lip's Puzzle League perhaps), so we can have a proper battle between Yoshi and Lip.

The low scores in that thread are absolutely disgusting.

It's pretty much a circle jerk of people saying "oh, it's some character I don't know or care about, nope."

There's no way in hell Lip's score should be lower than an indie character.

I gave her a Chance of 65% entirely because of her relative obscurity.

On the other hand, I gave her a 100% Want. I'd have put down my actual Want score, but I didn't want to break the scale - and I don't think people want to scroll down fifteen pages of zeroes, anyway.

Personally I think 65 is way too high. I couldn't give her any higher than 25. That said, I give all third-parties 5 or less (other than maybe Snake and Rayman).

It's just a little thing they put up in order to see the community's own opinion on the characters. Of course like you said, we don't really know how things will go, especially for something like DLC which we never had before for the Super Smash Bros series. So whatever score they may get shouldn't really be taken for gospel.

Have you seen their predictions on the previous RtC thread and how way off they where with a number of characters who in the end did or didn't make in? Imagine what score Roy and Ryu would have gotten if it wasn't for the sound files....

I can't realistically give her THAT low. That's for Indie's, most third-parties, and extremely obscure first-party's. Granted, she is obscure, but there's a lot worse suggestions.

Yeah, I definitely think her chances are abysmally low, but not 1%. That's simply too low IMO. She's got a foot in the door at least with references in-game, and is a first-party character with a decently long-running franchise (even if she hasn't been in all of them).

Not sure if it's exactly fair to give Lip a low Chance score because her series is dormant right now. If it was that low, we wouldn't have Pit, or Ice Climbers or Duck Hunt for that matter.

I would love to see the entire Tetris Attack gang battle it out with the Panel de Pon cast, with new faces on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, especially when battling online!!!

It would have been great to talk up in my usual big detail about Lip's chances overall.

TBH though, the only way we can influence her chances and vocal outcry further is to keep supporting her through the Ballot. Perhaps also collect up people and try appealing to 'em with Lip's potential and history.

Also, should we count F-Zero to the series with "no future"?

In the long run I think we're taking this reasoning too seriously, at the end Icies weren't pushed further to have say, 3DS be modified or even make Sm4sh New 3DS-only possibly to put them in, as they as characters with their history weren't enough the reasoning for that much effort.

I'll admit, after thinking it over, this year is the perfect time to announce anew Panel de Pon. Will we get one? I dunno. But it is the 20th anniversary. That's pretty good honestly.

Just because things are bad for Lip now doesn't mean they won't get better. What we can do for now is try to convince as many people as we can to vote for her on the ballot.

I wouldn't call Bayonetta a "nobody", but I don't think indie game characters have any real chance outside of trophies. Shantae would be neat, though.
