So what does a smashfest entail? Is it just a group of people who just play a ton of friendlies for an afternoon? How many people would attend your typical smashfest?

Pretty much just friendlies. Somestimes we organise crew battles or something to spice things up.

????
probably. if there ain't, you could prolly look around on facebook given how that's where most folks set up. I know the regional thread for canada is basically dead solely because people only talk on facebook

Canada is way too big for a single thread anyway.

Also Ottawa confirmed for being free this weekend in melee as Montreal dominates at the monthly.

I would love to attend a smashfest. Heck, I would love to play humans for a change.

Too bad the scene in my area is virtually non existent.

There is a Smash community where I live, but they all play Melee. The closest PM community is about 2.5 - 3 hours away from Youngstown. I'd even play Brawl if I could find it...

I have a serious fear of Facebook, like it is going to show up for college.
Some admissions officer will be like, "this guy only plays video games with strangers!"

Why not play melee? If the SC smash community was only brawl I'd prolly come to terms with it and just play it, or move on to something else entirely.

I'll play Melee (I enjoy it well enough. I grew up with that game after all), but I'm not about to go out of my way to do so. I was never great at the game and I'm too casual to really put effort into it. Plus, compared to PM, it really bores me. My personal argument for why I played Brawl over Melee was because while Brawl was fun, Melee felt more like work. That, and my tech skills are, and have always been garbage. I'm slightly better at tech in PM, and I love the additional characters and options.

I'm not great at PM, but I have a lot more fun with it. I enjoy Brawl too (for what it is).

Someone could probably write a good guide on it, I just show up and start screaming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVeMluR8feQ
and then play Godzilla https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ5iZiOYpaE#t=19

Till this day I have no idea what "kappa" even means :(

halp?
The more importnat thing right now is that we get this man to twitch.tv this instant.

@ The_Altrox The_Altrox I always felt like Brawl forced you to know a lot about what choices and mixups were the "correct" choice, as to where PM and Melee have different things to combo and make choices about in a more fluid way.

Eh, Melee never felt fluid to me (yeah, I'm one of those guys). PM does though, especially since I feel that characters have more options in general.

I'm also hoping that a Smash 4 community springs up when the game is released, but in this town, I'm not so sure.

I'm pretty much gonna be one of four people in my hometown playing Smash 4 and I'm totally okay with that 'cause it means I get to be Pac-Man.

What's your opinion on light shields?

Commanding the throw in Melee takes your control stick to be more in neutral or something (as well as throws themselves feeling kind of slow?) and the platform heights/wavelanding onto them are slightly higher

I was saying your placements were too low, you justified it for me nicely though. Jcaesar still has the best xanadu record iirc, and last time I saw him play, while being a month or so ago, he did really well against a fair set of characters and players he had never encountered before. Also the Junebug RV park is real.
LOL I'M SORRY. I figured this out right as you posted and tried to edit out my fail. Hopefully I'll be 5+ next time around. :3

I don't get this facebook fear. Hell, sign up with a pseudonym and no one aside from smashers will ever know it's you.

Snowpiercer is a pretty great movie if you get the chance to see it in theaters.

It's Bioshock on a post-apocalyptic train with Captain America and some awesome fight scenes and cool set design.

Two frozen thumbs up.

I had 40 likes once, all from Mechliker (The new and improved 9k). I love them likes tho, so i'll never complain.
