Wanted to share, but I didn't want to make a whole thread just for this, so I deemed this place worthy of random text walls about P:M.
TL:DR: Went to first tourney, wasn't anything amazing, but 'twas hype. So, after playing smash 64, losing track of the series and picking up brawl a year or two ago for a while,I finally picked Project M up to play competitively a few months ago. (Probably early January.)
I am that one guy in my group of smash friends who is the best. (Barring one fairly even matchup.) So going to the tournament (Which was the equivalent of out of state, but I'm in canada), I was excited to play other really good players. Thankfully, being a realistic person, I realized that I would be lucky to win any matches, and I was just excited to hopefully play people who were a ton better than myself.
We got there, and it was as awesome as I hope. Got a first round bye, which sucked because no matches, but I got to watch people.
Squirtle, Marth, Fox, Kirby, Mewtwo, and Zelda were the most common characters I saw, and I main Mario.
First match was against a Marth player. I got punished for not sweet spotting the ledge, for my get up attacks from ledge, and even just on a lot of my rolling and teching. It was fun though, and it's nice to finally see the mistakes in my play shine through. Still managed to get him down to 1 stock. I found it much easier to see what I was doing wrong, but I think that may also be playing against Marth. He switched to mewtwo the next match, and it went much worse. He 3 stocked me, and it was a touch harder to tell what I was doing wrong. Dat tail tho.
Next match was against one of my friends that I trash talk back and fourth with and is near my skill level. He plays link, and after cursing out the semi spike and the boomerang as usual, I played much safer in Game 3, and took it with 2 stocks left. #Feelsgood
Then I got my 3rd match, where I played another a match against (Squirtle/Marth). Lost both games. The one against squirtle was close, but I'm not too familiar with the matchup. I kept wanting to cape the withdraw,l but I don't remember it doing to much to help.
So needless to say, I placed 9th out of 15 or 20 or something, and my two opponents were 3rd and 5th, so I was happy to hear that I at least lost to skilled players. It was a ton of fun, and it motivated me to try even hard in my smash.
This game is too fun. Should be outlawed.
