You hear wrong. That game is not good and is disappointing, especially since BioWare worked on this game.
Disagree strongly. I absolutely loved this game.

Not gonna write a three page essay on it, though. XD

This game is booty. Especially from an RPG perspective.

also that wouldnt even equal a page in word you noob.
Always so confrontational, God Hand Kitty. ¦D

I'm not saying your post was that long. I'm just saying I'm not going to ramble on about it as much. XD

But for me, the game was fun and was decent enough and satisfactory for an RPG. Especially Sonic-wise. Could use some work, definitely needs a sequel but from someone who cares more about what they're working on.

I enjoyed it, therefore the game is not "booty" as far as I'm concerned. :3

Sonic Chronicles was a huge letdown as far as a genuine, challenging RPG/Sonic experience goes. Dialogue was crap (except Big's), the multiple choice story development Bioware was infamous for didn't exist, the music was beyond god awful (the remake of Sonic 3's final boss made me vomit), and the story itself was an overall "meh."

I DID, however, enjoy the fleshing out of Pachacamac's tribe vs. Shade's, I thoroughly enjoyed the new design for her tribe, the little tidbits that wrapped up Emerl/Gemerl's origins, and how much of a **** Dr. Robotnik is in this game.

I also enjoyed how mindlessly broken the characters and chao combinations could be. Especially so because the game requires you to be a broken little ***** from time to time in order to survive. Good RPG setup? Hell no. Fun none the less. Tails and Cream were just unbelievable overpowered.

Battle system was fine didn't have a problem with that.

The last thing I enjoyed in Chronicles was the character artwork. My god they looked good.

Nah, you're wrong. Game's booty. Deal with it.
Kappa

Needs a lot of work. Gameplay isnt fundamentally bad, just needs refinement, and more depth. POW attacks deff need to move that mandatory stylus ****. Something along the lines of M&L:SSS would of been a lot better.

Story needs an overhaul.
Sounds oh god please fix everything about it.
Art direction could be improved, but it really wasn't too bad I guess.

Pretty much this lol. I swear at times there were some really dumb battles that just was like, "Well unless you break this game, gg no re"

except the "didnt have a problem with the battle system"

I really dislike what they did with the POW Attacks lol.

Those were the combination attacks, right?
Because I almost never used those. They were kinda pointless and did so much less than what I could do with someone like Sonic.

Also, it was hard to die. Like, REALLY hard. I never used a single Ring to revive.
OH, another problem: Molding the Sonic world into an RPG element. The items you use to fight and heal and whatnot in this game were just kinda... uninspired. Power Ring? Heal Ring? Shoes? It just was kinda half-assed.

Artwork was clean as ****.

I actually enjoyed using the combination attacks. But yeah, Axe kick is all you need.

With Tails and Cream on point? Yeah you never died, but you always gotta be prepared lol.

Honestly, molding the Sonic world into an RPG element is not hard. At all. Items may be uninspired but it's whatever lol.

i love the M&L series. i do wish there was a hard mode though. the hand holding prematurely caps the potential fun of the game.

I noticed that this was done by richard jaques who. SHOULDN'T BE MAKING MUSIC THIS AWFUL. we're not talking "he's alright", we're talking like this is the guy who worked on sonic r and jet set radio. someone dug up a thing for me, and lo and behold (anecdotal history, mind, but)

i’m spilling the beans. this story can’t go unheard any longer. this game’s music is by Richard Jacques. this guy worked on Sonic R, Jet Set Radio (+ Future), and Mass Effect.
a friend of mine in the game music industry was contact by Jacques, who was working on a tight deadline. he was looking to do some “retro sounding” tunes for the soundtrack and needed to use a tracked format of music rather than streamed music. the issue was that Jacques had no clue how to use the tracking software.
said friend was preoccupied with other work and shot down his plea for help. if i’m to believe him, he “begged” for help. the deadline grew closer by the e-mail, by the phone call, by the moment.
Jacques never became familiar with the software, and this is what he made.
I can't stop laughing. sega, you gloriously moronic people

Um.

Based on that description, I dont think you've "heard" much from this game at all, lmao.

Look up some of the OST and see if that doesn't scare you off.
Guilty. I just took a quick glance at reviews from Amazon and some gaming sites.

I can't really take anyone's word for it unless I play the game myself or watch a playthrough, but hey, I'm lazy. (sips eggnog)

Speaking of RPGs, can you guys tell me of some modern RPG's I should try out for 3DS, emulators for the oldies, etc? I'm really getting into Fire Emblem and don't want to feel lost when my friends talk about some of those more common games.

I appreciated the story of TWEWY. I loved the art direction and the characters, for the most part, were memorable and enjoyable. The music was EXTREMELY polarizing. Almost a literal "Either you love it or hate it" thing. I loved the minigames. I loved exploring the setting. I loved how I could set my own level! That was awesome. The pin game was super fun and a great time waster. Hell, the pin system it was great and the methods of evolving pins. Super legit, especially since they took into consideration that not everyone with the game would be within a realistic range of each other outside small countries. This game did a lot right. A lot.

That being said.

Never, have I in all my years of playing JRPGs, encountered such a cluster**** of a battle system.

Like wow. Playing the actual fights was neat at first, but as the game grew in difficulty, having to manage both screen really did grow increasingly frustrating for me. Like it was a chore if your goal was to perform well, and not mediocre. Which unless you're really dedicated to the game, you're gonna eventually be like, "**** it"

I know I did. After like an hour, i left my partners on auto for the rest of the game lol. And i was much happier for it.
With the bottom screen freed up, i pretty much abused the mechanics of Neku's pins to ridiculous lengths, completely negating the fact I was pretty much using maxed out starter pins for like a good majority of the game, and also negating the fact that my Neku had abysmal damage. Like..."Start battle, attack enemy, launch with pin attack, juggle for extended period, relaunch before they touch the ground with first pin, repeat until win." and it was fine like this because the AI partner would be doing massive damage for basic easy mode combos due to me boosting my partner's attack power to massive levels, and I'd have tons of base HP to work with, despite keeping my level at 1 the whole game.

Kinda trivialized the game because there were mechanics that were heavily abusable, but i enjoyed it much more as a result because I was free from the constraint of having to manage to screens at once lol.

Regardless of all this, I really did enjoy the game and I really ****ing want solo remix because holy **** twewy on a single screen yes pls. i do feel it is overrated lol. and probably the weakest part of the game, aside from the battle system if you played it like SE wanted you to, is the story. What a meh story lol.

oh well.

I actually liked the story. If the game gives you character's that you actually give a damn about, then naturally how much you care for the story builds itself. What TWEWY had that a lot of other games and RPGs didn't was character depth, and aside from the art-style and certain aspects of the leveling up/battle system, I feel that this is TWEWY's strongest point. Like there wasn't a single character that I can remember that I hated. Beat was sort of unlikable, but that was easy to get past.

One of the reasons I enjoyed TWEWY so much is that I played the game knowing absolutely nothing about it. I saw that it got really good scores by various websites (even Gamespot), so I thought I might give it a try. I didn't know a single bit of the story, how the gameplay worked, or what the music was like. And I was absolutely blown away on my expectations. It's kind of the same reason why I like 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors so much.

From what I recall, there actually IS a TWEWY sequel in the works. :applejack:
It hasn't officially been confirmed to be in development, but there's decent evidence that there it's happening. Still, I don't want to get my hopes up.

Of the top of my head, get Etrian Odyssey IV for the 3DS, as well as FE:A (FE13). SMT 4 is a must have.

Denpa Man is a really cute and simplistic RPG that combines pikmin and pokemon kinda.
The premise of the game is that you're on an island and you gotta beat the evil guy, and to do so, you have to use a device (the 3DS) to capture creatures called the Denpa Men from the radio waves and use them to traverse the dungeons. Now the way you capture the denpa men is really cool. You have to use the AR Cameras to pretty much find Denpa Men in the radio waves of real life. As you move the 3DS, you'll see the creatures floating around on the screen and you have to capture them. IIRC The color of the denpa men determine their element and what types of spell they'll have, and the color is influence by what the camera is capturing/displaying on the screen ie camera on a red wall is more likely to show red denpa man.

once you capture your denpa men, you make your party and you go into the dungeon and you battle **** and fight dungeon bosses, progressing through the game until you beat the game.

It's pretty easy, quirky charming, nice use of Augmented reality, and just a nice, wholesome fun game. i think it's worth having but that's just me.

There is also Crimson Shroud which is a game from Level 5 that is heavily text based ala Radical Dreamers for SNES.
There is very little motion in game. The RPG system is traditional but borrows a lot from DnD. The interesting part of the game is that how the stat system / character development / loot system works is very different from your traditional JRPG.

There is no EXP system and your characters stats are only impacted by equipment you loot throughout the game. Characters have skills and magic. As you progress through the game, you end up learning more skills though i cant remember the triggers for the life of me. Magic however is indirectly taught by the weapon you equip ala Phantasy Star Universe. If your sword has cure and fireball bound to it, when it's equipped, you can use those spells. If you unequip the weapon, bam spells gone. there are methods of adding new spells to weapons. there is also a weapon/equipment crafting system in game as well.

the loot system is especially interesting as when you finish battles, instead of gold, you get barter points. and potential loot. the potential loot that you can take costs various amounts of barter points for you to take. if you dont have enough BP, you cant take the loot so you have to weigh what you want against what's important and what you need. the amount of BP you earn is based upon how well you perform in battle. i think it's a really neat system and it's one of my favorite aspects of the game.

the battles themselves are turn based, but certain spells and skills actually rely on dice rolls to determine success/damage. it's a pretty nice throwback and I do enjoy the feeling it instills. there is a mechanic in the battle system that adds a nice bit of strategy to the game as well. it's an elemental combo system.

skills and magic have elemental affinities. this mechanic works like this. each skill/magic your side and the enemy side uses, is tracked. the elemental skills/magics last used will appear in a list at the bottom of the screen, creating a list of up to 8 previously used elements. this is the elemental combo system. what it does, is when the chain is broken either by having skills/magic of either opposing elements used back to back, or reusing an element already in the combo, you get a die. based on the length of the combo, you can get die start from 1d2 to like 1d10 or something high. these die that you obtain can then be applied to either the success chance or damage, or both of skills/magic/attacks your party uses. so i can like use a sleep spell that normally has a 50% hit rate and throw 3d10s for a bonus success rate of between 3% to 30% added to my standard success rate.

it's great. and i love the extra layers of strategy that is granted to the player outside what is offered to you by default. a game i highly recommend playing.

That's all i can remember off the top of my head tho. deff check these games out.

I like the characters. Beat and Shiki got on my nerves (Less Shiki once I learned she's pretty much negligible irl. that make me like her more for some reason. because she was supposed to be forgettable.)

The story still didnt feel like a strong point for the game, but that's just me. Some of the twists were good. If twewy got an anime adaptation, I'd watch it.

Mother 1 is meh.

Also, Neko you suck at micromanagement. TWEWY's battle system was a cakewalk. :applejack:

Speaking of RPGs, do turn based strategy RPGs count as RPGs or are they in another category like srpgs?

oh please. either you tried playing them both at the same time, or you constantly focus on one or the other and switch back and forth, or you say **** it, and not bother with the hassle and annoyance of doing either option and you abuse the game's mechanics for superior results.

it's not like i couldnt do it. it just wasnt fun. it was frustrating. it was a hassle. and it didnt even produce the best results!

SRPGs is a sub category of RPGs.

So technically yes to both.

That being said.

I shall now refrain from going on a tangent of Fire Emblem, my favorite RPG, Pokemon, my next, and the Legend of Zelda (and irritation at the Water temple).
